Angelo State's Garnett Named to All-LSC Tournament Team

Kaila Garnett of Plano, a freshman outside hitter on the Angelo State University Belles volleyball team, was named to the 2022 All-Lone Star Conference Tournament Team. Despite the Belles being knocked out in the first round by LSC champs West Texas A&M, Garnett had a strong match, recording a team-high seven kills and a .636 attack percentage. For the season, Garnett was third on the Belles with 202 kills and she posted 50 blocks and 45 digs. See more details at angelosports.com.

Angelo State's Lloyd Earns LSC Women's Basketball Weekly Award

Sawyer Lloyd of Wall, a junior guard on the Angelo State University Belles basketball team, has been named the Lone Star Conference Offensive Player of the Week for the opening week of the 2022 season. As the Belles swept road games against MSU-Denver and Western Colorado, Lloyd poured in a total of 44 points, including 20 against MSU-Denver and a game-high 24 against WCU. She also posted a double-double against WCU with 11 rebound to go with her 24 points. Over the two games, she also recorded nine assists and six steals, and she shot 60% from the field. Angelo State's Mundkowsky Earns All-LSC Volleyball Honors

Sydney Mundkowsky of Gatesville, a junior on the Angelo State University Belles volleyball team, has been named to the All-Lone Star Conference second team for the 2022 season. An outside hitter, Mundkowsky had her breakout season for the Belles, leading the team with 220 kills. She posted double-digit kills in nine matches, and she twice exceeded 20 kills in a match, including her season-high 24 kills against Lubbock Christian on Oct. 7. She is ASU's lone All-LSC selection for 2022. Mundkowsky will help lead the Belles into the LSC Tournament starting Nov. 10 in Canyon. See more details at angelosports.com and on the LSC website.

Angelo State's Serna Earns LSC Cross Country All-Academic Honors

Emmanuel Serna of Balmorhea, a junior on the Angelo State University Rams cross country team, has been named to the 2022 Lone Star Conference Men's Cross Country All-Academic Team. Majoring in English with secondary teacher certification, Serna is carrying a 3.82 GPA. He competed in all five events this fall and placed among the Rams' top three finishers at four of them. Angelo State's Miller Named LSC Soccer Academic Player of the Year

Kira Miller of Frisco, the goalkeeper for the Angelo State University Rambelles soccer team, has been named the 2022 Lone Star Conference Women's Soccer Academic Player of the Year. A graduate student, Miller holds a 4.0 GPA in ASU's Master of Education (M.Ed.) in coaching, sport, recreation and fitness administration program. While maintaining her perfect GPA, she also broke the ASU record for career saves this season, and she now holds the ASU record for saves (304), wins (56) and shutouts (38). Miller also earned her second straight LSC Goaltender of the Year honor this season after posting an LSC-best 10 shutouts. Angelo State Soccer Players Earn All-LSC Recognition

Eight players on the Angelo State University Rambelles soccer team have garnered 11 All-Lone Star Conference honors, including three individual accolades, for their performance during the 2022 season. Goalkeeper Kira Miller of Frisco and defender Cassidy Hill of Forney topped the list by being named LSC Goalkeeper of the Year and LSC Defender of the Year, respectively. Miller was also named the LSC Academic Player of the Year, and both players earned All-LSC first team honors. They are joined on the All-LSC first team by midfielder Katelin Heise of Lubbock. Earning All-LSC second team honors for the Rambelles are forward Grace Jordan of Fort Worth, midfielder Madison Stokes of Amarillo and forward Reagan Urbany of Austin. Defenders Harper Saxon of Bluff Dale and Natasha Soto of McKinney have been named to the LSC All-Freshman Team. The Rambelles posted a 13-3-3 overall record and went 8-3-1 to place second in the LSC. Angelo State's Allman Named LSC Football Defensive Player of the Week

Daron Allman of Killeen, a junior linebacker on the Angelo State University Rams football team, has been named the Lone Star Conference Defensive Player of the Week for Week 8 of the season ending Oct. 23. In the No. 2 Rams' 34-7 Homecoming victory over No. 15 Texas A&M-Kingsville, Allman helped lead the ASU defense that shut out the Javelinas' offense and gave up just 145 total yards. Allman recorded eight tackles, a sack and a forced fumble in the game - and he currently leads the Rams in sacks (6) and tackles for loss (9.5). Both of those marks are also second in the LSC. Angelo State's Omayebu Named LSC Football Offensive Player of the Week

Nate Omayebu III of Sherman, a junior running back on the Angelo State University Rams football team, has been named the Lone Star Conference Offensive Player of the Week for Week 8 of the season ending Oct. 23. In the No. 2 Rams' 34-7 Homecoming victory over Texas A&M-Kingsville on Oct. 22, Omayebu rushed for a game-high 124 yards and a touchdown, averaging 5.4 yards per carry. The reigning LSC Offensive Back of the Year, he currently leads the LSC in rushing with 830 yards, is averaging 103.8 yards per game, and has scored 7 touchdowns. Angelo State's Webb Named LSC Men's Basketball 'Player to Watch'

Steve Webb of St. Louis, Mo., a graduate student guard on the Angelo State University Rams basketball team, has been named to the Lone Star Conference's inaugural LSC Men's Basketball Players to Watch list for the 2022-23 season. Prior to transfering to ASU this fall, Webb played four seasons at the University of Missouri-St. Louis and is the reigning three-time Great Lakes Valley Conference Defensive Player of the Year. He was also a four-time selection to the GLVC All-Defensive Team, and he ranks second all-time at UMSL in steals (162) and third in assists (360). Angelo State's Lloyd Named LSC Basketball Player to Watch

Angelo State's Bronkhorst Named LSC Football Offensive Player of the Week

Zach Bronkhorst of Galveston, quarterback of the Angelo State University Rams football team, has been named the Lone Star Conference Offensive Player of the Week for Week 4 of the season ending Sept. 25. In the No. 4 Rams' 34-14 home victory over No. 22 West Texas A&M on Sept. 24, Bronkhorst completed 27 of 39 passes for 279 yards and a touchdown while guiding the ASU offense to 455 yards of total offense. With the win, the Rams jumped one spot to No. 3 in this week's American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Top 25 Poll, tying their highest-ever national ranking. For the season, Bronkhorst has thrown for 1,010 yards and five TDs while leading the Rams to a 4-0 record. Next up is a road game at Western Oregon on Oct. 1. See more details on the LSC website.

Angelo State's Miller Earns LSC Soccer Goalkeeper of the Week Honors

Kira Miller of Frisco, the goalie for the Angelo State University Rambelles soccer team, has been named the Lone Star Conference Goalkeeper of the Week for Week 5 of the season ending Sept. 25. This is her second LSC weekly honor of the season. Miller made six saves and posted two shutouts for the week as ASU went 2-0 with matching 1-0 wins over St. Mary's and Eastern New Mexico. She has not allowed a goal in five straight matches, and her seven shutouts are tops in the LSC. She has allowed only four goals all season to lead the Rambelles to a 9-0-1 record, which ties the team's longest-ever stretch without a loss. Angelo State Golfer Sierra Sanz Wins Concho River Classic

Maria Sierra Sanz of Gijon, Asturias, Spain, a senior on the Angelo State University Rambelles golf team, took first place at Concho River Classic in San Angelo and nearly led ASU to the team title, as well. Sierra Sanz shot a 149 for the two-round tournament, posting a 76 in the first round and a 73 in round two to clinch the individual title. As a team, ASU shot 611 to tie Texas A&M International for the top spot before falling to the Dustdevils in a playoff to finish second overall. ASU's Patrizia Schaefer of Gauersheim, Germany, (3rd) and Ozlyan Juarez of Monahans (10th) also finished in the top 10 individual standings. See more details at angelosports.com.

Angelo State's Jordan Named LSC Soccer Offensive Player of the Week

Grace Jordan of Fort Worth, a sophomore forward on the Angelo State University Rambelles soccer team, has been named the Lone Star Conference Offensive Player of the Week for Week 5 of the season ending Sept. 25. In ASU's 1-0 wins over St. Mary's and Eastern New Mexico, Jordan scored both goals, and she now leads the LSC in game-winning goals with five. Her six total goals leads the Rambelles and is tied for third in the conference. With Jordan leading the way offensively, the Rambelles are now 9-0-1, tying the teams longest-ever winning streak. Angelo State's Hill Named LSC Soccer Defensive Player of the Week

Cassidy Hill of Forney, a senior defender on the Angelo State University Rambelles soccer team, has been named the Lone Star Conference Defensive Player of the Week for Week 4 of the season ending Sept. 18. As the Rambelles went 2-0 for the week to kick off their LSC schedule, Hill led the back line that gave up only four total shots on goal over the two games: a 1-0 victory over Texas A&M International and a 3-0 win over Oklahoma Christian. Hill is also the only ASU field player to play every minute this season. The Rambelles are now 7-0-1 overall. Angelo State's Fuller Named LSC Football Special Teams Player of the Week

ASA Fuller of Fountain Valley, Calif., the senior kicker for the Angelo State University Rams football team, has been named the Lone Star Conference Special Teams Player of the Week for Week 2 of the 2022 season ending Sept. 11. In the Rams' overtime road victory over No. 12 Colorado School of Mines, Fuller converted all three PATs and went 3-for-3 in field goals, including a 36 yard kick that sealed the win for ASU, 30-27. The Rams are now 2-0 and up to No. 5 in the American Football Coaches Association Top 25 Poll. The victory also avenged a 34-26 loss to CSM that ended ASU's 2021 season in the national quarterfinals. Angelo State's Miller Named LSC Soccer Goalkeeper of the Week

Kira Miller of Frisco, a senior goalie on the Angelo State University Rambelles soccer team, has been named the Lone Star Conference Goalkeeper of the Week for Week 2 of the 2022 season ending Sept. 4. In helping lead the Rambelles to a 1-0-1 record for the week in games against Colorado School of Mines and Regis University, Miller made three saves in each game and recorded a shutout in a 1-0 victory over Regis. The reigning LSC Goalkeeper of the Year has played every minute for the Rambelles this season and has recorded two clean sheets. She now sits just 10 shutouts away from the LSC record of 40. Angelo State's McKinney Named LSC Football Defensive Player of the Week

Jordan McKinney of Waco, a sophomore defensive back on the Angelo State University Rams football team, has been named the Lone Star Conference Defensive Player of the Week for the opening week of the 2022 season. In the Rams' 35-0 victory over Chadron State, McKinney recorded three tackles and an interception, which he returned 41 yards for a touchdown. He also helped lead the defense that held the Eagles to just 60 passing yards and 224 yards of total offense. Nathaniel Omayebu III of Sherman, a running back on the Angelo State University Rams football team, has been named to the Dave Campbell's Texas Football Preseason Texas All-Small College Team in advance of the 2022 season. A 5-11, 240-pound sophomore, Omayebu was also tabbed the Lone Star Conference 2022 Preseason Offensive Player of the Year. The reigning LSC Running Back of the Year, he led the conference in rushing last season with 1,085 yards and 10 touchdowns. He was also named to the 2021 All-Super Region Four first-team offense. The Rams have been picked to finish first in the 2022 LSC Preseason Coach's Poll and enter the season ranked No. 7 nationally by the American Football Coaches Association. Angelo State Soccer Players Earn LSC Preseason Honors

Three student-athletes on the Angelo State University Rambelles soccer team have earned preseason accolades from the Lone Star Conference in advance of the 2022 season. Senior defender Cassidy Hill of Forney has been named LSC Preseason Defensive Player of the Year for the second time; senior goalie Kira Miller of Frisco has been named LSC Preseason Goalkeeper of the Year for the second straight year; and senior midfielder Valerie Solis of Arlington has been named to the inaugural LSC Offensive Players to Watch List. Hill earned All-LSC first team honors last season as she anchored the defense that posted 12 shutouts. Miller is the reigning LSC Goalkeeper of the Year after notching 16 wins last season, including the 12 clean sheets. Solis scored six goals and added eight assists last season, both second on the team. Angelo State Volleyball Players Make All-Tournament Team to Start Season

Three players on the Angelo State University Belles volleyball team were named to the All-Tournament Team for ASU's Kathleen Brasfield Invitational that marked the start of the 2022 season. Setter Laney Dale of Brock, outside hitter Elsa Lamphere of Aurora, Colo., and outside hitter Sydney Mundkowsky of Gatesville all made the All-Tournament Team after leading the Belles to a 3-1 record that included sweeps of Southern Nazarene, New Mexico Highlands and East Central. Dale led all players with 84 assists at the tournament. Lamphere scored a tournament-high 51 points. Mundkowsky was third on the team with 26 kills and added three blocks and three digs. Angelo State Volleyball Players Named to LSC Preseason Watch Lists

Three student-athletes on the Angelo State University Belles volleyball team have been named to the inaugural Lone Star Conference Volleyball Preseason Players to Watch Lists in advance of the 2022 season. Sophomore setter Laney Dale of Brock made the LSC Preseason Setters to Watch List; junior outside hitter Elsa Lamphere of Aurora, Colo., is on the LSC Preseason Offensive Players to Watch List; and senior middle blocker Grace White of Helotes made the LSC Preseason Defensive Players to Watch List. Both Lamphere and White earned All-LSC honors for ASU last season, while Dale enters her first season at ASU after transferring from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Angelo State Softball Players Named All-America Scholar-Athletes

Eight members of the Angelo State University Rambelles softball team have earned 2022 All-America Scholar-Athlete honors from the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA). To qualify, student-athletes must maintain at least a 3.50 GPA for the academic year. ASU's honorees are sophomore pitcher Genesis Armendariz of Hobbs, N.M., junior outfielder Maleya Burns of Brush Prairie, Wash., sophomore catcher Keilei Garcia of Hemet, Calif., sophomore pitcher Torrey Hogan of Lubbock, junior second baseman Ashlyn Lerma of Highland Village, junior utility player Bailey Martinez of Albuquerque, N.M., freshman utility player Ashton McMillan of San Angelo, and junior third baseball Paxton Scheurer of Mansfield. Angelo State's McNeme Nominated for NCAA Woman of the Year Award

Avery McNeme of Lubbock, now a graduate assistant coach for the Angelo State University Rambelles soccer team, has been selected as a nominee for the 2022 NCAA Woman of the Year Award. The award celebrates the accomplishments of female college athletes, and the finalists will be selected based on its four pillars: academics, athletics, service and leadership. For the fall 2021 season, McNeme captained the Rambelles and was named the Lone Star Conference Midfielder of the Year and an All-American after notching 8 goals and 9 assists. She is carrying a perfect 4.0 GPA as she pursues her master's degree in coaching, sport, recreation and fitness administration, and she participates in a variety of campus and community service programs. Angelo State Tennis Players Named ITA Scholar-Athletes

Seven players on the Angelo State University Belles tennis team have been named 2022 Scholar-Athletes by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA). To be eligible, student-athletes must have at least a 3.5 grade point average for the current academic year. Belles Scholar-Athletes are Esther Bowers of Kerrville; Ramitha Irrinki of Round Rock; Eva Schwartz of L'isle-Sur-La-Sorgue, France; Ena Ovcina of Tidaholm, Sweden; Mieke Van Deventer of Gauteng, South Africa; Alexandra Vishnevskaya of Moscow, Russia; and Dianela Rodriguez of Mexico City, Mexico. The Belles have also been named an ITA All-Academic Team for having a cumulative GPA of at least 3.2 for the current academic year. More details are available at angelosports.com.

Angelo State Student-Athletes Make LSC Commissioner's Honor Roll

Nearly 170 Angelo State University student-athletes have been named to the Lone Star Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll for the 2022 spring semester in recognition of their hard work in the classroom. A total of 168 Rams and Rambelles made the honor roll, including 64 with a perfect 4.0 grade point average. Both totals are the fourth highest in the conference. Angelo State Rams Outdoor Track & Field Athletes Named All-Region

Thirteen members of the Angelo State University Rams track and field team have earned NCAA Division II All-South Central Region honors from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) for their performances during the 2022 outdoor season. The 13 Rams combined to earn 14 all-region honors, including two for Nicholas Ellisor of Coldspring (400 meters, 4x400 relay). Also being named all-region are Luis Alvarado of Laredo (javelin), Canon Andrews of Iraan (discus), Joshua Body of Abilene (triple jump), J. Cason Brown of Schulenburg (discus), Victor Ertelt of San Angelo (javelin), Jacobee Jones of Rowlett (pole vault), Elvis Kryukov of Limassol, Cyprus, (decathlon), Kyle Lumpkins of Junction (decathlon), Bossman Pinkrah of Accra, Ghana, (4x400 relay), Romel Plummer of Kingston, Jamaica, (400-meter hurdles), Jonathan Ramirez of Andrews (4x400 relay) and Emmett Seals of Rowlett (4x400 relay). Angelo State Belles Outdoor Track & Field Athletes Named All-Region

Eleven members of the Angelo State University Rambelles track and field team have earned NCAA Division II All-South Central Region honors from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) for their performances during the 2022 outdoor season. The 11 Belles combined to earn 17 all-region honors, including four for Maricia Spence of Christiana, Jamaica (heptathlon, long jump, 100-meter hurdles, 4x400 relay), three for Antonija Radic of Knin, Croatia (high jump, long jump, triple jump), and two for Zykia McDaniel of Converse (400 meters, 4x400 relay). Also earning all-region honors are Jennifer Batu of San Angelo (hammer), Raeana Mayo of Amarillo (javelin), Talena Murray of Carnbee, Trinidad & Tobago (javelin), Mia van Oudtshoorn of Kroonstad, South Africa (shot put), Sara Ramos of Uvalde (hammer), Genevie Rivera of San Antonio (4x400 relay), Shiean Walters of Coleman (4x400 relay), and Chloe "Abby" Zamzow of Bowie (heptathlon). The Belles finished second at the Lone Star Conference Outdoor Championships and 13th at the NCAA D-II Outdoor National Championships.

Angelo State's Scheurer Named LSC Female Academic Athlete of the Year

Paxton Scheurer of Mansfield, the All-American third baseman for the Angelo State University Rambelles softball team, has been named the Lone Star Conference's 2021-22 Fred Jacoby Female Academic Athlete of the Year, as voted on by the conference's sports information directors. A junior athletically, Scheurer is studying industrial/organizational psychology in graduate school and carrying a perfect 4.0 GPA. She was named the LSC Academic Player of the Year and earned CoSIDA Academic All-District and Academic All-America honors. On the field, Scheurer posted a .370 batting average with 23 home runs and 72 RBI, ranking in the top three nationally for homers and RBI. She was named the LSC Player of the Year, the D2CCA South Central Region Player of the Year, and a NFCA and D2CCA All-American.
