Angelo State Volleyball Players Make All-Tournament Team to Start Season

Three players on the Angelo State University Belles volleyball team were named to the All-Tournament Team for ASU's Kathleen Brasfield Invitational that marked the start of the 2022 season. Setter Laney Dale of Brock, outside hitter Elsa Lamphere of Aurora, Colo., and outside hitter Sydney Mundkowsky of Gatesville all made the All-Tournament Team after leading the Belles to a 3-1 record that included sweeps of Southern Nazarene, New Mexico Highlands and East Central. Dale led all players with 84 assists at the tournament. Lamphere scored a tournament-high 51 points. Mundkowsky was third on the team with 26 kills and added three blocks and three digs. Angelo State's Miller Named LSC Soccer Goalkeeper of the Week

Kira Miller of Frisco, a senior goalie on the Angelo State University Rambelles soccer team, has been named the Lone Star Conference Goalkeeper of the Week for Week 2 of the 2022 season ending Sept. 4. In helping lead the Rambelles to a 1-0-1 record for the week in games against Colorado School of Mines and Regis University, Miller made three saves in each game and recorded a shutout in a 1-0 victory over Regis. The reigning LSC Goalkeeper of the Year has played every minute for the Rambelles this season and has recorded two clean sheets. She now sits just 10 shutouts away from the LSC record of 40. Angelo State's McKinney Named LSC Football Defensive Player of the Week

Jordan McKinney of Waco, a sophomore defensive back on the Angelo State University Rams football team, has been named the Lone Star Conference Defensive Player of the Week for the opening week of the 2022 season. In the Rams' 35-0 victory over Chadron State, McKinney recorded three tackles and an interception, which he returned 41 yards for a touchdown. He also helped lead the defense that held the Eagles to just 60 passing yards and 224 yards of total offense. Angelo State's Omayebu Makes Preseason Texas All-Small College Team

Nathaniel Omayebu III of Sherman, a running back on the Angelo State University Rams football team, has been named to the Dave Campbell's Texas Football Preseason Texas All-Small College Team in advance of the 2022 season. A 5-11, 240-pound sophomore, Omayebu was also tabbed the Lone Star Conference 2022 Preseason Offensive Player of the Year. The reigning LSC Running Back of the Year, he led the conference in rushing last season with 1,085 yards and 10 touchdowns. He was also named to the 2021 All-Super Region Four first-team offense. The Rams have been picked to finish first in the 2022 LSC Preseason Coach's Poll and enter the season ranked No. 7 nationally by the American Football Coaches Association. Angelo State Soccer Players Earn LSC Preseason Honors

Three student-athletes on the Angelo State University Rambelles soccer team have earned preseason accolades from the Lone Star Conference in advance of the 2022 season. Senior defender Cassidy Hill of Forney has been named LSC Preseason Defensive Player of the Year for the second time; senior goalie Kira Miller of Frisco has been named LSC Preseason Goalkeeper of the Year for the second straight year; and senior midfielder Valerie Solis of Arlington has been named to the inaugural LSC Offensive Players to Watch List. Hill earned All-LSC first team honors last season as she anchored the defense that posted 12 shutouts. Miller is the reigning LSC Goalkeeper of the Year after notching 16 wins last season, including the 12 clean sheets. Solis scored six goals and added eight assists last season, both second on the team. Angelo State Volleyball Players Named to LSC Preseason Watch Lists

Three student-athletes on the Angelo State University Belles volleyball team have been named to the inaugural Lone Star Conference Volleyball Preseason Players to Watch Lists in advance of the 2022 season. Sophomore setter Laney Dale of Brock made the LSC Preseason Setters to Watch List; junior outside hitter Elsa Lamphere of Aurora, Colo., is on the LSC Preseason Offensive Players to Watch List; and senior middle blocker Grace White of Helotes made the LSC Preseason Defensive Players to Watch List. Both Lamphere and White earned All-LSC honors for ASU last season, while Dale enters her first season at ASU after transferring from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Angelo State Softball Players Named All-America Scholar-Athletes

Eight members of the Angelo State University Rambelles softball team have earned 2022 All-America Scholar-Athlete honors from the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA). To qualify, student-athletes must maintain at least a 3.50 GPA for the academic year. ASU's honorees are sophomore pitcher Genesis Armendariz of Hobbs, N.M., junior outfielder Maleya Burns of Brush Prairie, Wash., sophomore catcher Keilei Garcia of Hemet, Calif., sophomore pitcher Torrey Hogan of Lubbock, junior second baseman Ashlyn Lerma of Highland Village, junior utility player Bailey Martinez of Albuquerque, N.M., freshman utility player Ashton McMillan of San Angelo, and junior third baseball Paxton Scheurer of Mansfield. Angelo State's McNeme Nominated for NCAA Woman of the Year Award

Avery McNeme of Lubbock, now a graduate assistant coach for the Angelo State University Rambelles soccer team, has been selected as a nominee for the 2022 NCAA Woman of the Year Award. The award celebrates the accomplishments of female college athletes, and the finalists will be selected based on its four pillars: academics, athletics, service and leadership. For the fall 2021 season, McNeme captained the Rambelles and was named the Lone Star Conference Midfielder of the Year and an All-American after notching 8 goals and 9 assists. She is carrying a perfect 4.0 GPA as she pursues her master's degree in coaching, sport, recreation and fitness administration, and she participates in a variety of campus and community service programs. Angelo State Tennis Players Named ITA Scholar-Athletes

Seven players on the Angelo State University Belles tennis team have been named 2022 Scholar-Athletes by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA). To be eligible, student-athletes must have at least a 3.5 grade point average for the current academic year. Belles Scholar-Athletes are Esther Bowers of Kerrville; Ramitha Irrinki of Round Rock; Eva Schwartz of L'isle-Sur-La-Sorgue, France; Ena Ovcina of Tidaholm, Sweden; Mieke Van Deventer of Gauteng, South Africa; Alexandra Vishnevskaya of Moscow, Russia; and Dianela Rodriguez of Mexico City, Mexico. Angelo State Student-Athletes Make LSC Commissioner's Honor Roll

Nearly 170 Angelo State University student-athletes have been named to the Lone Star Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll for the 2022 spring semester in recognition of their hard work in the classroom. A total of 168 Rams and Rambelles made the honor roll, including 64 with a perfect 4.0 grade point average. Both totals are the fourth highest in the conference. Angelo State Rams Outdoor Track & Field Athletes Named All-Region

Thirteen members of the Angelo State University Rams track and field team have earned NCAA Division II All-South Central Region honors from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) for their performances during the 2022 outdoor season. The 13 Rams combined to earn 14 all-region honors, including two for Nicholas Ellisor of Coldspring (400 meters, 4x400 relay). Also being named all-region are Luis Alvarado of Laredo (javelin), Canon Andrews of Iraan (discus), Joshua Body of Abilene (triple jump), J. Cason Brown of Schulenburg (discus), Victor Ertelt of San Angelo (javelin), Jacobee Jones of Rowlett (pole vault), Elvis Kryukov of Limassol, Cyprus, (decathlon), Kyle Lumpkins of Junction (decathlon), Bossman Pinkrah of Accra, Ghana, (4x400 relay), Romel Plummer of Kingston, Jamaica, (400-meter hurdles), Jonathan Ramirez of Andrews (4x400 relay) and Emmett Seals of Rowlett (4x400 relay). Angelo State Belles Outdoor Track & Field Athletes Named All-Region

Eleven members of the Angelo State University Rambelles track and field team have earned NCAA Division II All-South Central Region honors from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) for their performances during the 2022 outdoor season. The 11 Belles combined to earn 17 all-region honors, including four for Maricia Spence of Christiana, Jamaica (heptathlon, long jump, 100-meter hurdles, 4x400 relay), three for Antonija Radic of Knin, Croatia (high jump, long jump, triple jump), and two for Zykia McDaniel of Converse (400 meters, 4x400 relay). Also earning all-region honors are Jennifer Batu of San Angelo (hammer), Raeana Mayo of Amarillo (javelin), Talena Murray of Carnbee, Trinidad & Tobago (javelin), Mia van Oudtshoorn of Kroonstad, South Africa (shot put), Sara Ramos of Uvalde (hammer), Genevie Rivera of San Antonio (4x400 relay), Shiean Walters of Coleman (4x400 relay), and Chloe "Abby" Zamzow of Bowie (heptathlon). The Belles finished second at the Lone Star Conference Outdoor Championships and 13th at the NCAA D-II Outdoor National Championships.

Angelo State's Scheurer Named LSC Female Academic Athlete of the Year

Paxton Scheurer of Mansfield, the All-American third baseman for the Angelo State University Rambelles softball team, has been named the Lone Star Conference's 2021-22 Fred Jacoby Female Academic Athlete of the Year, as voted on by the conference's sports information directors. A junior athletically, Scheurer is studying industrial/organizational psychology in graduate school and carrying a perfect 4.0 GPA. She was named the LSC Academic Player of the Year and earned CoSIDA Academic All-District and Academic All-America honors. On the field, Scheurer posted a .370 batting average with 23 home runs and 72 RBI, ranking in the top three nationally for homers and RBI. She was named the LSC Player of the Year, the D2CCA South Central Region Player of the Year, and a NFCA and D2CCA All-American. Angelo State's Berg & Morgan Earn LSC Scholar-Athlete Awards

Angelo State University student-athletes Sophia Berg of Georgetown and (Thomas) David Morgan of Lubbock have earned the 2021-22 Lone Star Conference Scholar-Athlete Awards for ASU. Each academic year, the LSC presents a Scholar-Athlete Award to one male and one female student-athlete at member institutions. The winners are selected as representatives of the outstanding accomplishments in athletics, scholarship and leadership that are displayed on each LSC campus during the year. To be eligible, student-athletes must have competed at least two years in their sport and be members of the graduating class. Berg was the LSC Academic Player of the Year for volleyball and earned All-America and Academic All-America honors. She graduated summa cum laude in May with her Bachelor of Science degree in biology. Morgan earned track and field All-LSC honors and qualified for the NCAA Division II Outdoor National Championships, where he finished 15th in the 100 meters. Angelo State's Kryukov Named LSC Outdoor Field Athlete of the Year

Elvis Kryukov of Limassol, Cyprus, a multi-event athlete on the Angelo State University Rams track and field team, has been named the Lone Star Conference's Co-Male Field Athlete of the Year for the 2022 outdoor season. The sophomore All-American won the national title in the decathlon with 7,574 points at the NCAA Division II Outdoor National Championships. He took first place in the discus and shot put events on his way to claiming the title by 214 points. He also scored 15 points at the LSC Outdoor Championships, including a second-place finish in the 110-meter hurdles. See more details on the LSC website.

Angelo State Softball Players Named CoSIDA Academic All-Americans

Ashlyn Lerma of Highland Village and Paxton Scheurer of Mansfield, both infielders on the Angelo State University Rambelles softball team, have earned 2022 Academic All-America honors from the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) organization for their performances in the classroom and on the field. Lerma, a junior second baseman, is majoring in finance and carrying a 3.94 grade point average (GPA). From the leadoff spot, she hit .349 with a team-high 38 walks and 50 stolen bases. She was also named to the All-Lone Star Conference first team and LSC All-Academic Team, and she earned multiple all-region and academic all-region honors. Scheurer, the Rambelles' third baseman, is a junior athletically and a graduate student academically. She is studying for her master's degree in industrial/organizational psychology and carrying a perfect 4.0 GPA. She hit 23 home runs and drove in 72 runs on her way to LSC Player of the Year and LSC Academic Player of the Year awards, as well as multiple all-region, academic all-region and All-America honors. Angelo State's Hardy Earns Elite 90 Award for NCAA D-II Baseball Championship

Jackson Hardy of Silsbee, a junior outfielder on the Angelo State University Rams baseball team, received the Elite 90 Award for the NCAA Division II Baseball Championship during the championship banquet on June 2 in Cary, N.C. The Elite 90 Award is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade point average (GPA) who is participating at the finals site for each of the NCAA's national championships. Hardy is majoring in business administration and is carrying a perfect 4.0 GPA. For his performance on the field, he was named to the Lone Star Conference All-Defensive Team and LSC All-Academic Team. He helped lead the Rams to LSC regular-season, LSC Tournament and South Central Regional titles as they qualified for the NCAA D-II Baseball Championship for the second straight season. Angelo State's Lee & Walters Earn Second Baseball All-America Nods

Angelo State University Rams baseball players Justin Lee of Las Vegas, Nev., and Aaron Walters of Center Point have earned 2022 NCAA Division II All-America honors from the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA). Lee, a senior outfielder, was named to the All-America first team. Walters, a senior first baseman, earned All-America honorable mention. It is the second All-America designation for both players this season, as they received identical recognition from the NCAA Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA). Both players were also named to the All-Lone Star Conference first team, and both earned All-South Central Region honors from the NCBWA, D2CCA and America Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA/Rawlings). Lee and Walters helped lead the Rams to LSC regular-season, LSC Tournament and South Central Regional titles as they qualified for the NCAA D-II College World Series for the second straight year. Angelo State's Kryukov Wins Decathlon National Title

Elvis Kryukov of Limassol, Cyprus, a sophomore on the Angelo State University Rams track and field team, won the national title in the decathlon at the 2022 NCAA Division II Outdoor National Championships in Allendale, Michigan. On his way to the title, Kryukov set a new personal best with 7,574 points, taking first place in five of the individual events: discus, high jump, pole vault, shot put and 110-meter hurdles. He was also named a first-team All-American. For the outdoor season, Kryukov also earned first-team All-Lone Star Conference honors after scoring 15 points at the LSC Championships. ASU Baseball Players Named ABCA/Rawlings All-Americans

Angelo State University Rams baseball players Justin Lee of Las Vegas, Nev., Aaron Walters of Center Point and Austin Beck of Allen have earned 2022 NCAA Division II All-America honors from the American Baseball Coaches Association sponsored by Rawlings (ABCA/Rawlings). Lee, a senior outfielder, was named to the All-America first team. Walters, a senior first baseman, and Beck, a freshman infielder, were named to the All-America third team. It is the third All-America designation for Lee and Walters, and the second for Beck. All three were named All-Americans by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Assocation (NCBWA), while Lee and Walters earned All-America honors from the NCAA D-II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA). Beck was named Lone Star Conference Freshman of the Year and joined Lee and Walters on the All-LSC first team. All three of them earned All-South Central Region honors from the NCBWA, D2CCA and ABCA/Rawlings. They helped lead the Rams to LSC regular-season, LSC Tournament and South Central Regional titles as they qualified for the NCAA D-II College World Series for the second straight year. Angelo State Baseball Players Named ABCA/Rawlings All-Region

Five players from the Angelo State University Rams baseball team have been named to the ABCA/Rawlings 2022 All-South Central Region teams by the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA). Freshman infielder Austin Beck of Allen, senior pitcher Ben Elder of Chico, Calif., senior outfielder Justin Lee of Las Vegas, Nev., and senior first baseman Aaron Walters of Center Point were named to the all-region first team. Sophomore pitcher Aaron Munson of San Antonio was named to the all-region second team. The Rams won the Lone Star Conference regular-season title, LSC Tournament and South Central Regional to book their tickets to the NCAA D-II College World Series for the second straight year. Angelo State's Scheurer Named D2CCA Softball All-American

Additionally, she was previously named the Lone Star Conference Player of the Year and Academic Player of the Year, the D2CCA South Central Region Player of the Year, and to the NFCA All-South Central Region Team and CoSIDA Academic All-District 6 Team. A junior psychology major, Scheurer started all 51 games for the Rambelles and led the team in batting average (.370), hits (61), home runs (23), slugging percentage (.842) and RBI (72) - ranking second in NCAA D-II in home runs and third in RBI. Her home run and RBI totals are also second and third all-time for a single season in team history. Scheurer was also named Lone Star Conference Player of the Year, LSC Academic Player of the Year and D2CCA South Central Region Player of the Year - and she was named to the NFCA All-South Central Region first team and to the CoSIDA Academic All-District 6 Team. Angelo State Baseball Players Named NCBWA All-Region

Five players on the Angelo State University Rams baseball team have earned 2022 All-South Central Region honors from the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA). Senior first baseman Aaron Walters of Center Point, senior pitcher Ben Elder of Chico, Calif., and senior outfielder Justin Lee of Las Vegas, Nev., were named to the All-South Central Region first team. Freshman second baseman Austin Beck of Allen and senior pitcher Jake Rogers of Las Vegas, Nev., were named to the all-region second team. All five were also named to the All-Lone Star Conference first team and to the D2CCA All-South Central Region teams. Rams Head Coach Kevin Brooks was named NCBWA All-South Central Region Coach of the Year. The Rams won the LSC regular-season title and the LSC Tournament. Angelo State's Ovcina Named CoSIDA Academic All-District

Ena Ovcina of Tidaholm, Sweden, a graduate student on the Angelo State University Belles tennis team, has been named to the 2021-22 NCAA Division II Academic All-District Women's At-Large Team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). The Academic All-District Team recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performance in athletic competition and in the classroom. Ovcina is the only tennis athlete on the District 6 first team. She is studying for her Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree and is carrying a perfect 4.0 GPA. On the court, Ovcina was named to the All-Lone Star Conference first team for doubles, and she and her partner, Valentina Gonzalez, are the reigning ITA South Central Region doubles champions. She was also named LSC Academic Player of the Year. By being named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District first team, Ovcina is eligible for the Academic All-America Team that will be announced in June. Five players on the Angelo State University Rams baseball team have earned 2022 All-South Central Region honors from the Division II Conference Commissioner's Association (D2CCA). Freshman second baseman Austin Beck of Allen, senior pitcher Ben Elder of Chico, Calif., senior outfielder Justin Lee of Las Vegas, Nev., and senior first baseman Aaron Walters of Center Point were named to the All-South Central Region first team. Senior pitcher Jake Rogers of Las Vegas, Nev., was named to the all-region second team. All five were also named to the All-Lone Star Conference first team, and Beck was named LSC Freshman of the Year. All-region first team selections will advance to the D2CCA All-American Ballot to be voted on later this month. The Rams won the LSC regular-season title and the LSC Tournament. Angelo State Baseball Players Named to All-LSC Tournament Team

Seven players on the Angelo State University Rams baseball team were named to the All-Lone Star Conference Tournament Team after the Rams claimed the LSC Tournament title on May 14. Freshman second baseman Austin Beck of Allen was named MVP of the tournament. He is joined on the all-tournament team by pitchers Ben Elder of Chico, Calif., and Aaron Munson of San Antonio; outfielders Koby Kelton of Austin and Justin Lee of Las Vegas, Nev.; shortstop Justin Harris of The Woodlands; and catcher Richard "Tripp" Clark of Waco. The Rams swept through the LSC Tournament, winning three straight games, including two in a row over arch-rival West Texas A&M. Angelo State Track & Field Athletes Named Academic All-LSC

Three members of the Angelo State University Rambelles track and field team have been named to the Lone Star Conference All-Academic Team for the 2022 outdoor season. Antonija Radic of Knin, Croatia, Sara Ramos of Uvalde and Mia van Oudtshoorn of Kroonstad, South Africa, were all named to the LSC Women's All-Academic Team. Radic and Ramos are graduate students majoring in coaching, sport. recreation and fitness administration. Van Oudtshoorn just graduated from ASU on May 14 with a bachelor's degree in chemistry and earned the ASU Distinguished Student Award for the College of Science and Engineering. To be eligible for LSC academic honors, student-athletes must carry at least a 3.30 grade point average and have reached sophomore status both athletically and academically. The honorees are selected from the list of academically qualified players, with the league's sports information directors voting based on both academic and athletic achievement.
