Angelo State's Elvir on USA Baseball's Golden Spikes Award Watch List

Josh Elvir of Kemah, an All-American outfielder on the Angelo State University Rams baseball team, has been named to USA Baseball's 2021 Golden Spikes Award Preseason Watch List. The Golden Spikes Award is presented each year to the top amateur baseball player in the nation who best exhibits exceptional on-field ability and exemplary sportsmanship. This year's winner will be announced in July. Elvir is on the Preseason Watch List for the second straight year. Through five games this season, he is batting .471 with two doubles, two home runs, four RBIs and eight runs scored. He has also picked up six walks and two stolen bases to help lead the Rams to a 4-1 start. More details are available at angelosports.com and usabaseball.com.

Angelo State Track & Field Athletes Earn Academic All-LSC Honors

Two members of the Angelo State University Rambelles track and field team have earned Academic All-Lone Star Conference honors for the 2021 indoor track and field season. Antonija Radic of Knin, Croatia, and Mia Van Oudsthoorn of Roodskool, Kroonstad, South Africa, were both named to the LSC Women's All-Academic Team. To be eligible for LSC academic honors, student-athletes must carry at least a 3.30 grade point average and have reached sophomore status both athletically and academically. The Academic Athlete of Year award and All-Academic Teams are selected from the list of academically qualified players, with the league's sports information directors voting on the basis of both academic and athletic achievement. Angelo State's Seginowich Named LSC Baseball Hitter of the Week

Nick Seginowich, a catcher for the Angelo State University Rams baseball team, has been named the Lone Star Conference Hitter of the Week for his performance during the week ending Feb. 7. A native of Victoria, British Columbia, Seginowich helped lead the No. 1 ranked Rams to a season-opening series win over No. 10 UT-Tyler on the road. Over the three-game series, Seginowich hit .556 (5 for 9) with two home runs, six RBI, five runs scored, three walks and a stolen base. He was also hit by a pitch twice, upping his on-base percentage to .714. More details are available on the LSC website.

Angelo State's Siroki Named LSC Field Athlete of the Week

Trpimir Siroki, a sophomore on the Angelo State University Rams track and field team, has been named the Lone Star Conference Field Athlete of the Week for the week ending Jan. 31. A native of Zagreb, Croatia, Siroki was the only Division II competitor in the heptathlon at the Texas Tech Invitational meet in Lubbock. Competing against members of the Big 12 Conference, he took second place overall with a score of 5,602 points, a new personal best. His score was also an automatic qualifying mark for the NCAA D-II Indoor National Championships. More details are available at angelo.edu and the LSC website.

Angelo State's Barnhill Nabs LSC Softball Preseason Honor

Courtney Barnhill, an All-American outfielder for the Angelo State University Rambelles softball team, has been named the Lone Star Conference Preseason Player of the Year for the upcoming 2021 season. A graduate student from Lubbock, Barnhill helped lead the Belles to a No. 7 national ranking before the 2020 season was cut short by the COVID-19 pandemic. In 25 games, she batted .375 with 27 hits, six home runs, 21 RBI and 20 stolen bases. She also became ASU's all-time leader in home runs (48), and she enters this season ranked in the top five of NCAA Division II active career leaders for runs scored, home runs, walks and total bases. Angelo State's Baker Nabs LSC Baseball Preseason Honor

Trent Baker, a starting pitcher for the Angelo State University Rams baseball team, has been named the Lone Star Conference Preseason Pitcher of the Year for the upcoming 2021 season. A junior from Georgetown, Baker helped lead the Rams to a No. 1 national ranking in 2020 before the season was cut short by the COVID-19 pandemic. He made six starts, posting a 4-1 record with a 3.13 ERA and 48 strikeouts in 37.1 innings. He also allowed only 25 hits and eight walks while holding opposing hitters to a .188 batting average. He previously picked up All-LSC and all-region honors after the 2019 season. The Rams have also been picked to win the LSC title this season and are ranked No. 3 in the Collegiate Baseball preseason national poll. Angelo State's Elvir Picks Up LSC Baseball Preseason Honor

Josh Elvir, an outfielder on the Angelo State University Rams baseball team, has been named the Lone Star Conference Preseason Player of the Year for the upcoming 2021 season. A graduate student from Kemah, Elvir led the Rams to a No. 1 national ranking in 2020 before the season was cut short by the COVID-19 pandemic. He led the LSC in batting average (.438), slugging percentage (1.027), on-base percentage (.607), runs scored (44), RBI (30), home runs (11) and doubles (10). He also led all of NCAA Division II in slugging percentage, home runs and runs scored. Despite the shortened season, he was named the LSC Male Athletic Performance Athlete of the Year. The Rams have also been picked to win the LSC title this year and are ranked No. 3 in the Collegiate Baseball preseason national poll. Angelo State's Ledyard Nabs LSC Volleyball Preseason Honor

Lindsey Ledyard, a member of the Angelo State University Belles volleyball team, has been named the Lone Star Conference Preseason Setter of the Year for the spring 2021 season. A senior from Cedar Park, Ledyard made the All-LSC second team last season as she helped lead the Belles to the LSC championship. She posted 571 assists and 279 digs. Angelo State's Gilbreath Picks Up LSC Volleyball Preseason Honor

Kailyn Gilbreath, a member of the Angelo State University Belles volleyball team, has been named the Lone Star Conference Preseason Offensive Player of the Year for the spring 2021 season. A redshirt junior from Fort Worth, Gilbreath is the reigning LSC Offensive Player of the Year. She also made the All-LSC first team following the 2019 fall season and earned All-America honors from the NCAA Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) and American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA). Angelo State's Wiklund Named LSC Golfer of the Week

Anna Wiklund of Hoviksnas, Sweden, a member of the Angelo State University Rambelles golf team, has been named the Lone Star Conference Women's Golfer of the Week for her performance during the week ending Oct. 11. A junior international business major, Wiklund won the Oklahoma Intercollegiate Tournament in Lawton, Okla. She shot a 147 for the 36-hole tournament, finishing with six birdies and 20 pars. She led after both days of the tournament, shooting a 73 in the opening round and a 74 in the second round. She also helped lead the Belles to a third-place team finish. Angelo State's Wiklund Wins Oklahoma Intercollegiate Golf Tourney

Anna Wiklund of Hoviksnas, Sweden, a member of the Angelo State University Rambelles golf team, took first place at the Oklahoma Intercollegiate Tournament held Oct. 11-12 in Lawton, Okla. Wiklund carded a two-day total score of 147 to win the tournament by five strokes. She led at the end of Day 1 after shooting a two-over-par 73, including four birdies and eight pars. She added two birdies and 12 pars on Day 2 on the way to a three-over 74. She also led the Belles to a third-place overall finish in the seven-team field. Angelo State Tennis Players Named ITA Scholar-Athletes

Seven members of the Angelo State University Rambelles tennis team have been named 2020 Scholar-Athletes by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA). To be eligible for the designation, student-athletes must have at least a 3.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale. Additionally, the ITA has also named the Rambelles a 2020 All-Academic Team. Angelo State's Parker Nominated for 2020 NCAA Woman of the Year

Meghan Parker of San Antonio, a setter on the Angelo State University Belles volleyball team, has been nominated for the 2020 NCAA Woman of the Year Award. Parker graduated summa cum laude in December 2019 with her bachelor's degree in exercise science. During the 2019 season, she helped lead the Belles to a 29-3 overall record and the Lone Star Conference Tournament Championship on the way to advancing to the NCAA Division II Tournament. Following the 2019 season, Parker was named to the All-LSC first team and the LSC All-Academic Team, and was named the LSC Academic Player of the Year for volleyball. Angelo State Student-Athletes Make LSC Commissioner's Honor Roll

More than 175 Angelo State University student-athletes have been named to the Lone Star Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll for the 2020 spring semester. The Commissioner's Honor Roll is announced at the conclusion of each fall and spring semester with student-athletes qualifying based on grade point average for the current semester. To be eligible, student-athletes must have a minimum 3.30 GPA and be on their team's active roster. Sixty-four ASU student-athletes posted a perfect 4.0 GPA for the 2020 spring semester. Angelo State's Hill and Novak Named LSC Scholar-Athletes

Two Angelo State University student-athletes, Meagan Hill of Salado and Nicholas Novak of Stillwater, Minn., have earned Lone Star Conference Scholar-Athlete Awards for their performances during the 2019-20 academic/athletic year. Each academic year, the LSC presents a Scholar-Athlete Award to one male and one female student-athlete at member universities. Winners are selected as representatives of the outstanding accomplishments in athletics, scholarship and leadership that are displayed on each LSC campus during the year. To be eligible, student-athletes must have participated at least two years in their sport and be a member of the graduating class. Hill is a pitcher for the Rambelles softball team. She graduated in May with her civil engineering degree. Novak is a shortstop on the Rams baseball team. He graduated in May with his business administration degree. Angelo State Track & Field Athletes Earn All-America Honors

Thirteen members of the Angelo State University Rams and Rambelles indoor track and field teams have been named NCAA Division II All-Americans for their performances during the 2019-20 season. Due to the cancellation of the NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships, the Executive Committee adopted revamped criteria. Based on the posted startlist for the national championships announced by the NCAA, the following will be recognized as All-America for the 2020 indoor track & field season: - Individual events: ALL student-athletes listed on the startlist for the anticipated event. - Relay events: The four student-athletes per anticipated relay who produced the performance that was declared and accepted into their event. - There will not be a distinction of "first-team" or "second-team" to these recognitions. Angelo State Student-Athletes Earn 2019-20 Holland's Awards

Fourteen Angelo State University student-athletes have earned the ASU Athletics Department's 2019-20 Holland's Awards. The winners of the annual awards are voted on by their teammates for their actions both on and off the field or court. One winner is chosen for each of ASU's athletic teams and the athletic training team, and the awards are sponsored by Holland's Jewelers. Angelo State's McNeme Named to All-LSC Athletic Performance Team

Avery McNeme of Lubbock, a junior midfielder on the Angelo State University Rambelles soccer team, has been named to the inaugural Lone Star Conference Athletic Performance All-Conference Team as announced by LSC officials April 16. For the 2019 season, McNeme was the Belles' co-leader in goals scored (5) and led the LSC in assists (10). She repeated as the LSC Midfielder of the Year and on the All-LSC first team. She was also a first-team All-South Central Region and first-team All-West Region Scholar selection, and was named a third-team All-American. A kinesiology major at ASU, McNeme was an all-district and all-region player for Monterey Senior High School in Lubbock. She joins 20 other male and female athletes on the 2020 LSC Athletic Performance All-Conference Team. More details are available on the LSC website.

Angelo State's Elvir Named LSC Male Performance Athlete of the Year

Joshua Elvir of Kemah, a senior outfielder on the Angelo State University Rams baseball team, has been named the inaugural Lone Star Conference Male Athletic Performance Athlete of the Year as announced by LSC officials on April 16. The 2019 LSC Player of the Year and 2020 Preseason Player of the Year, Elvir was off to another impressive start this season before it was shortened by the COVID-19 pandemic. Through 22 games, he posted a .438 batting average with 10 doubles, 11 home runs, 30 RBIs, 44 runs scored, 27 walks and 15 stolen bases. Angelo State Belles Named Tennis All-Americans

Two members of the Angelo State University Rambelles tennis team have been named 2019-20 All-Americans by the International Tennis Association. Valentina Gonzalez of Medellin, Colombia, and Ena Ovcina of Tidaholm, Sweden, were named ITA Doubles All-Americans. They formed the Belles' top doubles team and ended the shortened season ranked No. 4 in the nation. They are ASU's first ITA Doubles All-Americans in program history. Angelo State's Siroki Named LSC Field Athlete of the Year

Trpimir Siroki of Zagreb, Croatia, a sophomore on the Angelo State University Rams track and field team, has been named the Lone Star Conference Male Field Athlete of the Year for the 2020 LSC indoor track and field season as voted on by the LSC head coaches. Siroki scored a meet-high 34 points to help lead the Rams to their first-ever title at the LSC Indoor Track and Field Championships. He won the long jump and placed second in the high jump, third in the pole vault and triple jump, and fifth in the 60-meter hurdles. See more details at angelosports.com.

Angelo State's Ibarguen Makes Basketball All-Region Team

Andres Ibarguen of Santa Marta, Colombia, a senior forward in the Angelo State University Rams basketball team, has been named to the NCAA Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) All-South Central Region second team for his performance during the 2019-20 season. Ibarguen was second on the Rams in scoring at 14.3 points per game and led all of NCAA D-II averaging 5.3 offensive rebounds per game. He was also named second-team All-Lone Star Conference. Angelo State's Moore Named All-Region for Women's Basketball

De'Anira Moore of Allen, a senior forward on the Angelo State University Belles basketball team, has been named to the All-South Central Region first team for women's basketball by the NCAA Division II Conference Commissioners Association for the 2019-20 season. Through the Belles' 28 games, Moore led the team in points per game (18.2), rebounds per game (8.3), field goal percentage (.528) and blocked shots (60). In the Lone Star Conference, she was third in points, rebounds and blocked shots per game. With their season shortened by coronavirus issues, the Belles finished 18-10 overall and 14-10 in the LSC. Angelo State's Gubbels Named LSC Tennis Player of the Week

Zoe Gubbels of Velserbroek, Netherlands, a junior on the Angelo State University Rambelles tennis team, has been named the Lone Star Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week for her performances during the week ending March 8. Playing in Wichita Falls March 5-7, Gubbels went undefeated in singles and doubles to lead the Belles to a sweep of regional opponents Colorado Mesa University, Colorado State - Pueblo and Metropolitan State. She won all three of her singles matches - and with her partner Virginie Becht of Vero Beach, Fla., won all three doubles matches. See the story on angelosports.com.

Barnhill Sets New Angelo State Softball Home Run Record

Courtney Barnhill of Lubbock, an All-American outfielder on the Angelo State University Rambelles softball team, set a new ASU career home runs record on March 7 in the Belles' victory over St. Mary's University. In the bottom of the first inning, Barnhill hit a two-run homer over the right-centerfield fence to give the Belles a 2-0 lead. It was her 47th career home run and put her ahead of the former ASU record holder, Kenedy Urbany, who belted 46 home runs from 2014-17. Through 25 games this season, Barnhill currently leads the Belles in batting average (.375), home runs (6), RBIs (21), runs scored (21), slugging percentage (.722), on-base percentage (.465) and stolen bases (20).

Angelo State's Seginowich Named South Central Region Hitter of the Week

Nick Seginowich of Victoria, British Columbia, a senior catcher on the Angelo State University Rams baseball team, has been named the NCAA Division II South Central Region Hitter of the Week for his performances during the week ending March 1. In helping lead the Rams to a 3-1 series win over arch-rival No. 14 West Texas A&M, Seginowich hit .400 with two home runs, 10 RBIs and four runs scored. He ended Game 1 of the series with a walk-off sacrifice fly, and he ended Game 2 with a walk-off 3-run homer. Angelo State Rams Earn All-LSC Basketball Honors

Two members of the Angelo State University Rams basketball team have earned All-Lone Star Conference honors for their performances during the 2019-20 regular season. Andres Ibarguen of Santa Marta, Colombia, (by way of Athens, Texas) and Collin Turner of Poolesville, Md., were both named to the All-LSC second team. Ibarguen led the Rams in rebounding and led NCAA Division II in offensive rebounds per game. Turner led the Rams in scoring and tied the school record for single-game scoring with 44 points against Texas A&M-Kingsville on Feb. 20. More details are available at angelosports.com.

Angelo State Belles Earn All-LSC Basketball Honors

Four members of the Angelo State University Belles basketball team earned All-Lone Star Conference recognition for their performances during the 2019-20 regular season. De'Anira Moore of Allen was named to the All-LSC first team. Catara Samuel of Amarillo was named to the All-LSC third team. Asia Davis of Midwest City, Okla., earned All-LSC honorable mention - and Sawyer Lloyd of Wall also earned All-LSC honorable mention and was named to the LSC All-Freshman Team. Angelo State's Seginowich Named LSC Hitter of the Week

Nick Seginowich of Victoria, British Columbia, a senior catcher on the Angelo State University Rams baseball team, has been named the Lone Star Conference Hitter of the Week for his performances during the week ending March 1. As the Rams took three of four games from No. 14 West Texas A&M, Seginowich batted .400 with one double, two home runs, 10 RBIs and four runs scored. He finished two of the Rams' wins in walk-off fashion with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 11th inning of Game 1, and a 3-run homer to end Game 2. More details are available on angelosports.com.

Angelo State Track & Field Athletes Earn All-Region Honors

Twenty-one members of the Angelo State University track and field teams have earned a total of 31 NCAA Division II All-South Central Region honors that were announced March 2 by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. Twelve ASU Rams and nine Rambelles athletes were honored. Four Rams and three Rambelles were named all-region in multiple events. Seven Rams and one Rambelle were also named the Top Regional Performers in their respective events. More details and the list of honorees are available at angelosports.com.
