Angelo State's Andrade Named National Athlete of the Week

Decio Andrade of Camacha, Portugal, a freshman hammer thrower on the Angelo State University Rams track and field team, has been named NCAA Division II Men's National Athlete of the Week by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. Five members of the Angelo State University outdoor track and field teams have been named Lone Star Conference Athletes of the Week for their performances during the week ending April 7. Hammer thrower Decio Andrade of Camacha, Portugal, was named Co-Men's Field Athlete of the Week. ASU's 4x100-meter relay team, Kaitlyn Mathews of Big Spring, Hannah Porter of Austin, Sarah Porter of Austin and Tare Ward of San Antonio, were collectively named Women's Track Athlete of the Week. Marquita Daniels of Atlanta, Ga., a senior guard on the Angelo State University Rambelles basketball team, has received All-America honorable mention from the Women's Basketball Coaches Association for the 2018-19 season. Angelo State's Andrade Breaks ASU & LSC Records for Hammer Throw

Decio Andrade of Camacha, Portugal, a freshman on the Angelo State University men's track and field team, set new ASU and Lone Star Conference records in the hammer throw at the Wes Kittley Invitational Meet on March 16 in Abilene. Andrade's hammer throw of 226 feet, 5 inches broke the previous ASU record of 213-9 set by Lennart Bodell in 1984 - and the previous LSC record of 218-0 set by Baptiste Kerjean of Abilene Christian University in 2013.
