Two players on the Angelo State University Rambelles soccer team, Christina Clark of Trophy Club and Katelin Heise of Lubbock, have earned 2024 NCAA Division II All-America honors from the United Soccer Coaches Association (USC). Both were named to the USC All-America third team. Sophomore defender Clark, a management information systems major, earns her first All-America designation after previously being named to the USC All-South Central Region first team, to the All-Lone Star Conference first team and LSC Defender of the Year. She led the Belles defense that ranked fifth in the nation in shutout percentage (.667) while also chipping in four goals. Graduate student midfielder Heise, who is studying coaching, sport, recreation and fitness administration, also earns her first All-America nod after previously being named to the All-South Central Region and All-LSC first teams. She was the team captain for her final season and posted three goals and two assists. Katelin Heise of Lubbock, a midfielder on the Angelo State University Rambelles soccer team, has been named to the 2024 NCAA Division II Academic All-America Team by the United Soccer Coaches (USC) organization. It's her second USC Scholar All-American honor. A graduate student in coaching, sport, fitness and recreation administration, Heise was the team captain in her final year of eligibility. Highlighting the awards is middle blocker Demi Carter of Bridge City being named the AVCA National Freshman of the Year. The marketing major also earned All-America honorable mention after previously being named to the Lone Star Conference All-Freshman Team and earning All-South Central Region honors. Graduate MBA student Adeline Ortman of Rhome was named to the All-America first team. She was previously named the LSC Setter of the Year and LSC Academic Player of the Year, and she also earned all-region honors. Sophomore outside hitter Madi Parrish of Saginaw, a business major, was named to the All-America second team. She previously earned All-LSC and all-region honors and was the MVP of the LSC Tournament. Angelo State University track and field student-athletes Mark Burdin of Kazan, Russia, and Kylie Frush of Glen Rose have been named the Lone Star Conference Men's and Women's Field Athletes of the Week for Week 1 of the indoor season ending Dec. 10. Burdin, a sophomore management major, scored 5,177 points to finish fourth in the heptathlon at the Boo Rogers Combined Events in Pittsburg, Kan. His total earned an NCAA Division II provisional mark and slotted him third in the country. He was the top finisher in shot put (14.78m, 48-6) and came in fourth in high jump (1.94m, 6-4.5). Frush, a junior nursing major, scored 3,464 points to finish fourth overall in the pentathlon at the Boo Rogers Combined Events in Pittsburg, Kan. Her total was an NCAA Division II Provisional mark and ranks 12th in the entire country. She was the top long jumper in the field (5.58m, 18-3.75) and runner-up in the 800-meter run (2:23.63). Four athletes on the Angelo State University Rams and Rambelles indoor track and field teams have been named to the Lone Star Conference Preseason Athletes to Watch lists as they prepare to start the 2024-25 season this weekend. For the Rams, multi-events athlete Mark Burdin of Kazan, Russia, and sprinter Tristan Guerrero of Coahoma were tabbed LSC Men's Preseason Athletes to Watch. Burdin, a sophomore business major, was an indoor All-American in the heptathlon last season. Guerrero, a sophomore exercise science major, was a LSC champion and an indoor All-American in the 4x400 relay last season. For the Rambelles, sprinter Jacent Nyamahunge of Hoima, Uganda, and multi-event athlete Kylyie Paden of Portales, N.M., were tabbed LSC Women's Preseason Athletes to Watch. Nyamahunge, a graduate student in coaching, sport, recreation and fitness administration, was an indoor All-American in the 4x400 relay last season. Paden, a junior nursing major, was named to the indoor All-LSC first team after finishing in the top five in the high jump, 60-meter dash and 200-meter dash last season. Braeden Fuller of Floresville, the quarterback for the Angelo State University Rams football team, has been named one of eight finalists for the 2024 Harlon Hill Trophy, which goes to the NCAA Division II Football Player of the Year. The finalists were chosen from 43 nominees and announced today by the Little Rock Touchdown Club in conjunction with the Great American Conference (GAC). The winner will be announced Dec. 20. A junior kinesiology major, Fuller led the Rams to a 9-3 overall record and a 9-0 mark in the Lone Star Conference as they claimed the LSC title and advanced to the NCAA D-II Football Championships. He led the LSC with 2,318 passing yards and 19 touchdowns with only two interceptions. He also added 678 rushing yards and 10 rushing touchdowns. He won the J.W. Rollins Award as the LSC Offensive Player of the Year and was named to the All-LSC first team. The Harlon Hill Trophy is named for the late Harlon Hill, the former University of North Alabama standout who excelled with the Lions from 1950-53 before going on to fame in the National Football League with the Chicago Bears. Senior goalkeeper Amber Lockwood of San Antonio and junior defender Harper Saxon of Bluff Dale were named to the all-region first team. Graduate student midfielder Katelin Heise of Lubbock and sophomore forward Sanai Stewart of Cibolo were named to the all-region second team. Lockwood, a commercial aviation major, has posted 12 shutouts to tie the program record and has conceded just eight goals this season. She was also named the Lone Star Conference Goalkeeper of the Year. Saxon, an exercise science major, helped lead the Belles defense that has allowed nine total goals this season, which ranks third in NCAA Division II. She was also named to the All-LSC first team. Heise, who is studying coaching, sport, recreation and fitness administration, earns her second all-region honor. Angelo State University Rams football players Bradley Larson and Jordan McKinney have both been named to the 2024 Lone Star Conference Football All-Academic Team for their performances on the field and in the classroom. To be eligible for the All-Academic Team ballot, student-athletes must maintain at least a 3.30 cumulative grade-point average and have reached sophomore athletic elibigility. Larson, a senior kicker from Prosper, is a management major. He was also named to the All-LSC first team after putting up 72 points this season with 10 field goals and 42 extra points. He did not miss an extra point all season. McKinney, a senior defensive back from Waco, is majoring in health science professions. He was also named to the All-LSC first team after finishing second on the Rams in tackles (67) and posting six tackles for loss and one interception. Angelo State University graduate student Adeline Ortman of Rhome has been named the 2024 Lone Star Conference Volleyball Academic Player of the Year for her performances on the court and in the classroom. Currently studying for her MBA, Ortman carries a 4.0 grade point average for her entire undergraduate and graduate careers, and has already earned her B.S. in management. This is her third straight season to also make the LSC All-Academic Team, she has twice been named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team, and she has made the LSC Commissioner's Honor Roll every semester at ASU. A setter on the court, Ortman was also named the 2024 LSC Setter of the Year after averaging a conference-best 11.56 assists per set. She has also recorded nine assists-digs double-doubles, posted five matches with 50-plus assists, and led all players with four LSC Setter of the Week honors during the regular season. To be eligible, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.50 grade point average (GPA). Graduate student defender Neleh Coleman of Oceanside, Calif., is a curriculum and instruction major. She was named to the All-Lone Star Conference second team as part of the Belles' back line that has allowed only nine goals this season. Graduate student midfielder Katelin Heise of Lubbock is studying coaching, sport, recreation and fitness administration. A team co-captain, she was named to the All-LSC first team after posting two goals and three assists while anchoring the center of the field for the Belles. Graduate student midfielder Madison Maxey of Cedar Park is studying health science professions. Also a team co-captain, she posted two goals and three assists this season and was named to the All-LSC Tournament Team. Junior defender Harper Saxon of Bluff Dale is an exercise science major. She was named to the All-LSC first team after playing a key role in the Belles' defense that has posted 13 clean sheets this season. Braeden Fuller of Floresville, the quarterback for the Angelo State University Rams football team, has been named the Lone Star Conference Offensive Player of the Week for the final week of the regular season ending on Nov. 17. As the Rams wrapped up an unbeaten LSC slate, Fuller threw for four touchdowns and ran for three more in a convincing 56-19 home victory of West Texas A&M. He finished the game with 238 passing yards and 187 rushing yards, including an 80-yard touchdown run. He ends the regular season at No. 1 in the LSC for passing yards (2,180) and TDs (18) without throwing a single interception. He also finished eighth in the LSC in rushing (648 yards) and third in rushing TDs (10). This marks Fuller's fifth LSC Offensive Player of the Week honor this season - and the junior kinesiology major is the only player to earn multiple weekly offensive awards. Angelo State University Rams football players Braeden Fuller of Floresville and Eric Rascoe of San Antonio have both earned Lone Star Conference Player of the Week honors for their standout performances during Week 11 of the LSC season ending Nov. 10. Fuller, the No. 23 Rams' junior quarterback, was named LSC Offensive Player of the Week after passing for 315 yards and three touchdowns in ASU's 38-16 road victory over Western Oregon. The kinesiology major also ran for 43 yards and a touchdown. He has not thrown an interception yet this season, and this is his fourth LSC weekly honor. Rascoe, a senior linebacker, was named LSC Defensive Player of the Week after recording 11 tackles, an interception, a fumble recovery and a half-sack in the win over Western Oregon. The business major also had two pass break-ups to help lead the Rams' defense that shut out the Wolves in the second half. The victory clinched the LSC title for the Rams, who also moved up to No. 4 in the regional rankings. Adeline Ortman of Rhome, a setter on the Angelo State University Rambelles volleyball team, has been named the Lone Star Conference Setter of the Week for Week 10 of the LSC season ending Nov. 10. It's her second straight LSC weekly honor and her fourth this season. As the Rambelles swept home matches against Cameron University and Oklahoma Christian, Ortman averaged 12 assists per set. She posted 26 assists and seven digs in just two sets against Cameron, and followed that up with 34 assists and 15 digs against Oklahoma Christian. She also added three kills, three aces and two blocks over the two matches. A graduate MBA student, Ortman leads the LSC averaging 11.59 assists per set and is fourth in the LSC at 0.41 aces per set. She has also posted 15 double-doubles and is the only student-athlete across all the LSC fall sports to earn four weekly honors. The Belles now sit at 23-2 overall and 13-1 in the LSC. Lockwood recorded 10 saves over the two games, including seven against UT Tyler to notch her 10th clean sheet of the season. She leads the LSC in goals against and save percentage, having conceded just eight goals in her 17 games played. Clark, a management information systems major, and Lockwood, a commercial aviation major, have each won two LSC weekly honors this season. Adeline Ortman of Rhome, a setter on the Angelo State University Rambelles volleyball team, has been named the Lone Star Conference Setter of the Week for Week 9 of the LSC season ending on Nov. 3, her third LSC Setter of the Week honor this year. A graduate MBA student, Ortman averaged a double-double for the week as the Rambelles went on the road and collected wins over St. Edward's on Friday and St. Mary's on Saturday. She notched 35 assists, five digs and two aces against the Hilltoppers, and then followed that up with 56 assists, 18 digs, three blocks and two aces against the Rattlers. She now has eight double-doubles and four 50-plus-assist matches this season. Ortman is averaging 11.56 assists per set, which is tops in the LSC and seventh in all of NCAA Division II. Kenton Allen of Riverside, Calif., a linebacker on the Angelo State University Rams football team, has been named the Lone Star Conference Defensive Player of the Week for Week 9 of the LSC season ending Nov. 3. A senior computer science major, Allen posted a game-high 13 tackles and had a key late-game interception as the Rams defeated No. 17 Central Washington, 17-16, at home on ASU's Military Appreciation Night. His interception came at ASU's 15-yard line and helped preserve the Rams' 17-10 lead with under eight minutes left in the game. The win also kept the Rams atop the LSC standings, and they can clinch the conference title with a win this Saturday at Western Oregon. Sydney Thornton of Prosper, a middle blocker on the Angelo State University Rambelles volleyball team, has been named the Lone Star Conference Freshman of the Week for Week 8 of the LSC season ending Oct. 27. A freshman business major, Thornton helped the Belles extend their winning streak to seven matches with a four-set road win over UT Permian Basin and a home sweep of Lubbock Christian. She posted nine kills and five blocks against UTPB, and then followed that up with six kills and a season-high seven blocks against LCU. Katelin Heise of Lubbock, captain of the Angelo State University Rambelles soccer team, has been named the Lone Star Conference Defensive Player of the Week for Week 7 of the season ending Oct. 20. A graduate student midfielder/defender, Heise led the Belles defense that posted two shutouts in victories over St. Mary's, 2-0, and Eastern New Mexico, 3-0. She also notched a goal and an assist against Eastern New Mexico. The Belles have now recorded clean sheets in nine of their last 10 matches and sit in first place in the LSC. Heise, an exercise science major, is also tied for the team lead in points with six - two goals and two assists. Sterling Gaston-Chapman of Wichita, Kansas, a transfer-senior guard on the Angelo State University Rams basketball team, has been named to the Lone Star Conference Players to Watch List heading into the 2024-25 season. An interdisciplinary studies major, Gaston-Chapman came to the Rams from Division I University of Texas at Arlington after previously playing two seasons at the University of Tulsa. A defensive specialist in his previous stops, he will be counted on to continue that role for the Rams while also chipping in on the offensive end. Entering their third season under head coach Vinay Patel, the Rams have been picked to finish fourth in the 2024-25 LSC Preseason Poll after posting a 19-11 record last season and qualifying for the NCAA D-II South Central Regional. Madeline Stephens of Lubbock, a senior forward on the Angelo State University Rambelles basketball team, has been named to the Lone Star Conference Players to Watch List heading into the 2024-25 season. A health science professions major, Stephens averaged 13.3 points, 7.7 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game last season on her way to being named to the All-LSC second team for the second straight year. She is the leading scorer of the Belles' returning players for this season. The Belles have been picked to finish sixth in the 2024-25 LSC Preseason Poll out of 16 LSC teams. Angelo State University Rams football players Andrew Pitts of McKinney and Cade Fuller of Floresville have both been named to the Midseason All-Texas Non-FBS Team by Dave Campbell's Texas Football (DCTF). Pitts, a senior cornerback, leads the Lone Star Conference in interceptions (5) and passes defended. Here's what DCTF had to say about him: "Death, taxes and Andrew Pitts intercepting a pass. Pitts has 20 tackles, one tackle for-loss, four pass breakups, and has recorded an interception in every game this season (5) while setting the Rams program record for most career interceptions (19)." Fuller, a senior punter, leads the LSC in punting average (46.2 yards per punt) and was named the LSC Special Teams Player of the Week after the Rams' most recent win over Texas A&M-Kingsville. Here's what DCTF had to say about him: "One of the top punters at any level, Fuller has placed 13 of 42 punts inside the opponent's 20-yard line, averaging 46.2 yards per attempt with 14 punts traveling 50 yards or longer." Chasity Benson of Roby, a freshman on the Angelo State University Rambelles cross country team, has been named the Lone Star Conference Women's Freshman Runner of the Week for Week 6 of the season ending Oct. 13. Competing at Our Lady of the Lake University's West Side Classic in Windcrest, Benson turned in a career-best 6K time of 23:08.1. That was good enough for 22nd place out of 79 runners and helped the Rambelles clinch third place overall - just six seconds out of first. A biology pre-med major, Benson is the first ASU cross country runner to earn a LSC weekly award this season. Adeline Ortman of Rhome and Evelyn Torres of Fort Worth, gradute students on the Angelo State University Rambelles volleyball team, have both earned Lone Star Conference Player of the Week honors for week 6 of the season ending Oct. 13. Ortman was named LSC Setter of the Week for the second time this season after posting 85 total assists in home victories over Texas A&M International and Texas A&M-Kingsville. The MBA student had 54 assists, seven digs and three kills in the four-set win over the Dustdevils. She then recorded her fifth double-double of the season with 31 assists and 13 digs against the Javelinas. She leads the LSC averaging 11.66 assists per set. Torres, an outside hitter, was named LSC Offensive Player of the Week for the second time this season as she averaged 5.5 kills per set and posted her 1,000th career kill. She had 14 kills and 12 digs against A&M International and followed that up with 22 kills against A&M-Kingsville. Her 22 kills agains the Javelinas are the most in a three-set match in the LSC this season. She sits third in the LSC in points per set (4.23) and fourth in kills per set (3.82). The Belles are now 15-2 overall and 5-1 in LSC play. They have a road match at Western New Mexico this week, followed by a home match against Sul Ross State on Friday.
