Twelve student-athletes on the Angelo State University track and field teams have been named 2023 NCAA Division II All-Academic Athletes by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. To be eligible for All-Academic honors, a student-athlete must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.25, have completed at least 24 credit hours, and must have achieved an automatic or provisional qualifying mark for either the indoor or outdoor national meet. Seven players from the Angelo State University Belles tennis team have been designated 2023 NCAA Division II Women's Scholar-Athletes by the Intercollegiate Tennis Assocation. The be named an ITA Scholar-Athlete, athletes must have at least a 3.5 GPA for the current academic year. Belles players honored include Letizia Corsini of Porto Sant'Elpidio, Italy; Ayda Guler of Sydney, Australia; Christine Jevicky of Littleton, Colo.; Eva Schwartz of L'isle-Sur-La-Sorgue, France; Mieke Van Deventer of Johannesburg, South Africa; Ramitha Irrinki of Round Rock; and Alexandra Vishnevskaya of Moscow, Russia. Kade Bragg of Ennis, a lefty pitcher on Angelo State University's national champion Rams baseball team, has been named the 2023 Lone Star Conference Male Athlete of the Year. A junior communication major, Bragg went 15-1 this season with a 1.20 ERA and two saves. That included posting a 1-0 record and striking out the final batter to earn a save that clinched the NCAA D-II national championship. His win total and ERA set new LSC single-season records as he also helped lead the Rams to LSC regular-season, LSC Tournament and South Central Regional titles. Among his many honors and awards, Bragg was named NCAA D-II Pitcher of the Year and an All-American by the American Baseball Coaches Association, Conference Commissioners Association and National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association. Earlier this week, he was drafted by the Minnesota Twins in the 17th round of the Major League Baseball Draft. Kade Bragg of Ennis, a lefty starting pitcher for the Angelo State University Rams baseball team, has been named the 2023 ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Division II Pitcher of the Year. A junior communication major, Bragg led NCAA D-II in victories (15) and ERA (1.20) on his way to a 15-1 record in 18 appearances with two saves and 124 strikeouts in 104.2 innings pitched. He allowed only 14 earned runs and 39 walks, and opposing hitters batted just .171 against him. He set a new Lone Star Conference single-season record for wins, as well as ASU single-season records for wins and shutouts. At the NCAA D-II Baseball Championships, he went 1-0 with a save in his two appearances to help lead the Rams to their first national championship. Tyler Boggs, the catcher for the Angelo State University Rams baseball team, has been selected for an ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Division II Gold Glove Award for his defensive performance during the Rams' 2023 national championship season. Only one player at each position is chosen for the national Gold Glove Awards by the American Baseball Coaches Association. A graduate student from Grand Junction, Colo., Boggs played in 51 games for the Rams this season. In 366 chances, he committed just one error for a .997 fielding percentage. He also threw out 15 of 19 stolen base attempts and allowed only three passed balls in over 350 innings. Just prior to helping lead the Rams to their first-ever NCAA D-II national championship, Boggs was named to the Lone Star Conference All-Defensive Team for the second straight season. Dianela Rodriguez of Mexico City, Mexico, a member of the Angelo State University Belles tennis team, has been named an NCAA Division II All-American by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) for the 2022-23 season. ITA All-America accolades go to student-athletes who finish the season in the top 20 of the ITA singles rankings and top 10 of the ITA doubles rankings. Rodriguez was ranked No. 6 In the final ITA singles rankings, as well as No. 1 in the final ITA South Central Region rankings. A senior marketing major, Rodriguez played Line 1 singles and Line 3 doubles for the Belles. Angelo State University track and field athletes Devoux Deysel and Maricia Spence have added to their trophy haul this spring after being named the 2023 South Central Region Field Athletes of the Year by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) for the NCAA Division II outdoor season. Deysel, a junior from Victoria, South Africa, won the national title in the javelin and set a new division record at the NCAA D-II Outdoor Track & Field Championships. His throw of 79.14 meters (259'-8") shattered his previous personal best of 74.37 meters (244-0) set at the Texas Relays earlier this spring. He also won the Lone Star Conference title in the javelin. Spence, a junior from Christiana, Jamaica, finished second in the heptathlon and seventh in the long jump at the 2023 NCAA D-II Outdoor Track & Field Championships. She also dominated the LSC Outdoor Championships, winning titles in the heptathlon and long jump and finishing second in the javelin. Bragg and Guerrero, a senior outfielder, have also been designated All-America by the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA/Rawlings) and the Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) for their performances during the 2023 regular season. These are also just latest in a long list of accolades for both players. Bragg was named the Lone Star Conference Pitcher of the Year and to the All-LSC first team and All-LSC Tournament Team. He also earned South Central Region Pitcher of the Year honors from the ABCA, D2CCA and NCBWA - and was named the Ron Lenz D-II Pitcher of the Year by the D2CCA. Angelo State University track and field athletes Devoux Deysel and Maricia Spence have been named the 2023 Lone Star Conference Outdoor Field Athletes of the Year. Deysel, a junior computer science major from Garsfontein, South Africa, won the 2023 national title in the javelin while setting a new NCAA Division II record with a throw of 79.14 meters. It's his second national title in the javelin, having also won the event in 2021. He also won the LSC title in the javelin and was recently named the USTFCCCA South Central Region Field Athlete of the Year. Spence, a junior economics major from Christiana, Jamaica, was the national runner-up in the heptathlon (personal-best 5,553 points), took seventh in the long jump (6.11 meters) and was a member of the third-place 4x400-meter relay team. She was also the high-point athlete at the LSC Championships (50), winning the heptathlon, long jump, 100-meter hurdles and 400-meter hurdles. She swept the LSC Women's Outstanding Track Athlete and Outstanding Field Athlete awards, and she was recently named the USTFCCCA South Central Region Field Athlete of the Year. Angelo State University Rams baseball players Kade Bragg of Ennis and Jacob Guerrero of Colleyville have picked up their second All-America accolades as the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) has named them to the 2023 ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Division II All-America first team. Bragg, a junior left-handed pitcher, led NCAA D-II with 14 wins and a 1.03 ERA. He has also been named the Lone Star Conference Pitcher of the Year and ABCA, D2CCA and NCBWA South Central Region Pitcher of the Year. Guerrero, a senior outfielder, led the Rams with a .424 batting average and 23 doubles. He also led the team in slugging percentage and on-base percentage while ranking second in RBI and notching 21 stolen bases. Rance Rosas of San Angelo, a senior outfielder on the Angelo State University Rams baseball team, has received the Elite 90 Award for the 2023 NCAA Division II Baseball Championship. A health science professions major, Rosas was presented with the award during the Baseball Championship Banquet on June 2 in Cary, N.C. The Elite 90 Award recognizes the true essence of the student-athlete by honoring the individual who has reached the pinnacle of competition at the national championship level in his or her sport, while also achieving the highest academic standard among his or her peers. The award is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade point average participating at the finals site for each of the NCAA's championships. Eligible student-athletes are sophomores or above academically who have participated in a sport for at least two years with their school. All ties are broken by the number of credits completed. Two Angelo State University Rams baseball players have earned All-America honors from the Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) for their performances during the 2023 season. Junior left-handed pitcher Kade Bragg of Ennis continues to rack up superlative awards as he was named the Ron Lenz Division II Pitcher of the Year, as well as to the All-America first team. He leads NCAA D-II with 14 wins and a 1.03 ERA. Senior outfielder Jacob Guerrero of Colleyville was selected to the All-America third team after leading the Rams with a .424 batting average, 89 hits, 23 doubles, 138 total bases and a .657 slugging percentage. Five players from the Angelo State University Rams baseball team have been named to the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) All-South Central Region teams for their performances during the 2023 regular season. The top award for the Rams goes to left-handed pitcher Kade Bragg of Ennis, who has been named the ABCA South Central Region Pitcher of the Year and to the all-region first team. He leads all of NCAA Division II in ERA (1.03) and wins (14) - and he was also named region pitcher of the year by the NCBWA and D2CCA. Also making the all-region first team for the Rams are left fielder Jacob Guerrero of Colleyville and starting pitcher Aaron Munson of San Antonio. Guerrero leads the Rams in batting average (.424) and doubles (23). Munson has posted a 9-2 record with a 3.83 ERA. Rams designated hitter Tripp Clark of Waco and starting pitcher Braxton Pearson of Georgetown have been named to the all-region second team. Clark is hitting .370 with a team-high nine home runs and 62 RBI. Pearson has posted a 7-2 record with a 2.89 ERA and one save. The Rams won the LSC regular season, LSC Tournament and South Central Regional titles on their way to qualifying for their third straight NCAA D-II College World Series. Twelve members of Angelo State University's Rams and Rambelles track and field teams were named All-Americans for their performances at the NCAA Division II Outdoor National Championships last weekend in Pueblo, Colo. The Rams led the way with two national champions as Devoux Deysel of Garsfontein, South Africa, claimed the title in the javelin and Elvis Kryukov of Limassol, Cyprus, won the decathlon. It was the second outdoor national title for both athletes. Joining them as first-team All-Americans are Cason Brown of Schulenburg in the discus and Jacobee Jones of Rowlett in the pole vault. Rambelles first-team All-Americans are Maricia Spence of Christiana, Jamaica, in the heptathlon and long jump, Shadae Findley of Manchester, Jamaica, in the 400 meters, and the 4x400-meter relay team of Spence, Findley, Zykia McDaniel of Converse and Shiean Walters of Coleman. Kyle Lumpkins of Junction was named a second-team All-American for the Rams in the decathlon. Rambelles second-team All-Americans are Walters in the 400 meters, Talena Murray of Carnbee, Trinidad and Tobago, in the javelin, Anna Riccomagno of Caraglio, Italy, in the heptathlon, and Abby Zamzow of Bowie in the heptathlon. Ashlyn Lerma of Highland Village, the second baseman for the Angelo State University Rambelles softball team, has earned multiple All-American honors, as well as national Golden Shoe and Gold Glove awards for her stellar performance during the 2023 season. Lerma has been named an All-American by both the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) and the Division 2 Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA). She also earned the New Balance/NFCA Golden Shoe Award for leading NCAA Division II with 58 stolen bases this season - and she is one of nine inaugural recipients of the new NFCA/Rawlings Gold Glove Award. During the 2023 season, Lerma led the Belles in batting average (.372) and hits (61), and her 58 steals tied the team's single-season record. Four players on the Angelo State University Rams baseball team have been named to the 2023 NCAA Division II All-South Central Region Team by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA). Junior left-handed pitcher Kade Bragg of Ennis snagged the top honor as he was named the South Central Region Pitcher of the Year, as well as making the all-region first team. He is 12-1 this season with a 1.21 ERA, the lowest in all of NCAA D-II. He is also tied for the most wins in D-II. Joining Bragg on the all-region first team is senior outfielder Jacob Guerrero of Colleyville. Guerrero is hitting .449 for the season, the fourth-highest average in NCAA D-II. He has also chipped in 51 RBI in 50 games. Making the all-region second team for the Rams are junior designated hitter Tripp Clark of Waco and junior starting pitcher Braxton Pearson of Georgetown. Clark is hitting .360 this season and leads the Rams in home runs (9) and RBI (58). Pearson has posted a 7-1 record in 11 appearances with a 2.44 ERA and one save. Angelo State University track and field athletes Oussama El Bouchayby of Marrakesh, Morocco, and Maricia Spence of Christiana, Jamaica, have been singled out for special awards for their performances at the 2023 Lone Star Conference Outdoor Championships. El Bouchayby earned the Cap Shelton Award for Outstanding Male Track Athlete after earning the most individual points at the championship meet by winning both the 800 meters and 1,500 meters. Spence earned both the Wes Kittley Award for Outstanding Female Track Athlete and David Noble Award for Outstanding Female Field Athlete. She was the high-point earner for the entire championship meet with 50, claiming 22 in track events and 28 in field events. She won the 100-meter hurdles, 400-meter hurdles, heptathlon (new meet record) and long jump. Both El Bouchayby and Spence also earned USTFCCCA All-South Central Region honors and will represent ASU at the NCAA Division II Outdoor National Championships May 25-27 in Pueblo, Colo. A total of 25 Angelo State University track and field athletes have earned All-Lone Star Conference accolades for their performances at the 2023 LSC Outdoor Championships. The Rams put 12 athletes on the All-LSC team, including six on the first team and six on the second team. Angelo State University Rambelles softball players Paxton Sheurer of Mansfield and Ashlyn Lerma of Highland Village have been named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team for their success on the field and in the classroom during the 2023 season. Scheurer, the Belles' third baseman, graduated this spring with her master's degree in industrial/organizational psychology. On the field, she batted .329 with 15 home runs and 51 RBI on her way to being named to the All-Lone Star Conference first team and LSC All-Academic Team for the second straight year. Lerma, the Belles' second baseman, has already earned her bachelor's degree in finance and is pursuing her MBA. She hit .372 this season with a team-high 61 hits and 58 stolen bases. She made the All-LSC first team and LSC All-Academic Team for the third straight season while also winning her third straight LSC Golden Glove for defense. This marks the second straight CSC Academic All-District selection for both Scheurer and Lerma, who will both now move to the Academic All-America ballot. The No. 6 Rams have 13 student-athletes who posted 16 all-region performances, while the No. 8 Rambelles have 10 student-athletes who posted 22 all-region performances. Kade Bragg of Ennis, a junior left-handed pitcher for the Angelo State University Rams baseball team, has been named the 2023 Lone Star Conference Pitcher of the Year. In his first season at ASU, Bragg dominated the LSC, posting an 11-1 record with one save and a 1.07 ERA, which is the lowest ERA in all of NCAA Division II. With a 12-1 overall record, he tossed 75.2 innings and gave up only nine earned runs while notching 98 strikeouts to only 30 walks. Also named to the All-LSC first team, Bragg led the LSC in wins and ERA, as well as opposing batting average (.162), total runs allowed (12), hits allowed (43) and home runs allowed (2). With the top team fielding percentage in all of NCAA Division II (.983), it's no surprise the Rams dominated the LSC All-Defensive Team, filling six of the 10 positions. ASU honorees are junior pitcher Aaron Munson of San Antonio, senior catcher Tyler Boggs of Grand Junction, Colo., senior first baseman Jordan Williams of Round Rock, junior third baseman Kamden Kelton of Cedar Park, sophomore shortstop Justin Harris of The Woodlands, and senior outfielder Thomas Cain of Flower Mound. Williams is the first LSC player to make the All-Defensive Team four times, and Boggs makes the team for the second straight season. Angelo State University tennis players Ramitha Irrinki of Round Rock and Eva Schwartz of L'isle-Sur-La-Sorgue, France, have been selected to the 2022-23 Academic All-District Team by the College Sports Communicators (CSC) organization. To be eligible, student-athletes must have attended their institution for at least a calendar year, competed in more than 50% of their team's contests, and have at least a 3.5 a grade point average (GPA). Irrinki is a sophomore biology major who went 18-3 in singles and 13-11 in doubles this season. Schwartz is a junior international business major who went 18-5 in singles and 20-3 in doubles. They helped lead the ASU Rambelles to the Lone Star Conference Tournament final and a berth in the NCAA D-II South Central Regional. Both will now be eligible for the CSC Academic All-America Team. Four players on the Angelo State University Rambelles softball team have earned All-Lone Star Conference honors for their performances during the 2023 regular season. Second baseman Ashlyn Lerma of Highland Village and third baseman Paxton Sheurer of Mansfield were named to the All-LSC first team. First baseman Bailey Martinez of Albuquerque, N.M., was named to the All-LSC second team, and pitcher Genesis Armendariz of Hobbs, N.M., was named to the All-LSC third team. Lerma leads the Belles with a .377 batting average and leads NCAA Division II in steals with 58. She is also tied for the ASU single-season record for steals. Scheurer is hitting .321 with a team-high 15 homers and 51 RBI. Martinez is hitting .341 overall, and her .366 batting average in LSC play is tops on the team. Armendariz has a 14-11 record with 11 complete games and 106 strikeouts in 140.2 inning pitched. Angelo State University Rambelles softball players Ashlyn Lerma of Highland Village and Keilei Garcia of Hemet, Calif., have both earned Lone Star Conference Golden Glove Awards for the defensive play during the 2023 regular season. Lerma, a senior second baseman, wins her third straight Golden Glove. She owns a .990 fielding percentage and has recorded 117 putouts and 75 assists. She was also named to the All-LSC first team and LSC All-Academic Team. Garcia, a junior catcher, earns her second straight Golden Glove. She has a .987 fielding percentage and has thrown out 11 stolen base attempts, second-best in the LSC. Lerma and Garcia are also two of only three players to start all 53 games for the Rambelles this season - and ASU is one of only two teams to have multiple 2023 Golden Glove winners. Ashlyn Lerma of Highland Village and Paxton Scheurer of Mansfield, infielders on the Angelo State University Rambelles softball team, have been named to the Lone Star Conference All-Academic Team for their performance on the field and in the classroom during the 2023 season. Lerma, a senior second baseman, has already earned her ASU undergraduate degree in finance and is pursuing her Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree. This is her third straight year to make the LSC All-Academic Team. On the field, she leads the Belles with a .377 batting average and leads all of NCAA Division II with 58 stolen bases. Scheurer, a senior third baseman, has already earned her ASU undergraduate degee in psychology and is set to receive her ASU master's degree in industrial/organizational psychology. This is her second straight LSC All-Academic Team selection. On the field, she is batting .321 with a team-high 15 homers and 51 RBI. Lerma and Scheurer are the only teammates to make the 2023 LSC All-Academic Team. The Belles continue their season this week at the LSC Tournament.
