Angelo State Announces 2024 Outstanding Graduate Students

Angelo State University honored the 2024 Outstanding Graduate Students from each if its five academic colleges during the recent Graduate Research Symposium and Awards Ceremony in the Houston Harte University Center. The 19 honorees were nominated by faculty in their respective academic departments, and each received a certificate of recognition. Three additional superlative awards were also conferred. Angelo State Student-Athletes Earn National Academic Awards

Eighty-seven Angelo State University student-athletes have earned 2022-23 Academic Achievement Awards from the NCAA Division II Athletic Directors Association (D2 ADA). To be eligible, student-athletes must have a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.50 and have completed at least two years of college-level work. The athletic director at their college or university must also be a member of D2 ADA. More details are available at angelosports.com.

Angelo State Announces Class of 2023 Top Graduates

Angelo State University has announced its Presidential Award and Distinguished Student Awards winners for the Class of 2023 that will graduate later this month. They will be recognized at ASU's May 12-13 commencement ceremonies. Emily Maxey of Phoenix, Ariz., has been selected to receive the 2023 Presidential Award as the top graduate in her class. Angelo State University honored its 2023 Outstanding Graduate Students, as well as the recipients of four superlative awards, during the annual Graduate Research Symposium and Awards Ceremony in the Houston Harte University Center. The honorees were nominated by faculty in their respective academic departments, and each received a certificate of recognition. Additionally, winners of the four superlative awards were selected from among the Outstanding Graduate Students by a separate committee. Angelo State Student-Athletes Make LSC Commissioner's Honor Roll

Over 170 Angelo State University student-athletes and student-athletic trainers have been named to the Lone Star Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll for the 2022 fall semester in recognition of their hard work in the classroom. A total of 171 Rams and Rambelles made the honor roll, including 65 with a perfect 4.0 grade point average. Angelo State Students Earn LSC Athletic Training Student Academic Awards

Seven student members of Angelo State University's athletic training staff have been recognized with 2021-22 Lone Star Conference Athletic Training Student Academic Awards. Each academic year, the LSC recognizes student athletic trainers who devote numerous hours to assist with the operation of the athletics department while also finding the time to excel in the classroom. To be eligible, student athletic trainers must carry at least a 3.30 grade point average with a minimum of 24 credit hours. Angelo State Students Selected for Prestigious Reading Program

A group of 12 Angelo State University students has been selected by the Free Market Institute at ASU to participate in this semester's McLane Teammates Reading Program. This group meets weekly to discuss selected texts around the theme of "Freedom and Human Flourishing: Poverty, Prosperity and Quality of Life around the World." Students completing the semester-long program qualify for a $1,000 scholarship. Leading this semester's group of scholars is Dr. Edwar Escalante, an instructor of economics in ASU's Norris-Vincent College of Business and research associate for the Texas Tech University System.

Angelo State's Garza Earns Statewide Social Work Internship Award

Adolph "AJ" Garza of San Angelo, who graduated from Angelo State University on May 14 with his Bachelor of Social Work (B.S.W.) degree, has earned the 2020-21 World Changer Award from the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS) for his performance as an intern with the local office of Child Protective Services (CPS). The World Changer Award is given to only one DFPS intern in the state of Texas each year. It recognizes the outstanding service of an intern who has volunteered for DFPS within the last year and who has demonstrated professionalism, taken initiative and works well as a team player. Garza completed his CPS internship during the 2020-21 academic year as part of his B.S.W. degree plan. He will enter ASU's Master of Social Work (M.S.W.) degree program this fall. Academic Award - 2021 May 26

Angelo State Honors Students Win Regional Research Awards

Autumn Cleveland of Roby and Morgan Preston of Vicksburg, Michigan, seniors in the Angelo State University Honors Program, won top prizes for their research presentations at the 2022 Great Plains Honors Council (GPHC) Conference in Wichita, Kansas. Cleveland, an English major, and Preston, an English/philosophy double major, each earned a Dennis Boe Award for exceptional research and writing by an undergraduate honors student. Each was presented a plaque and a $200 cash prize, and their work will be published in The Windmill, a scholarly journal featuring undergraduate research. Only three Dennis Boe Awards are presented annually. Cleveland's oral presentation and paper detailed her research on "Monstrous Paradigms: Frankenstein's Professors and the History of Science." Preston's oral presentation and paper detailed her research on "Madness, Justice, and Epistemic Limits in King Lear." See more details at angelo.edu/news.

Angelo State Athletic Training Students Earn LSC Academic Awards

Four of Angelo State University's student athletic trainers have received Lone Star Conference Athletic Training Student Academic Awards for the 2020-21 academic year. Each academic year, the LSC recognizes student athletic trainers who assist with the operation of the athletics department while also exceling in the classroom. To be eligible, they must carry at least a 3.30 grade point average with at least 24 credit hours at the nominating institution. The qualifications mirror those required of student-athletes to gain LSC All-Academic recognition. ASU honorees include Baylee Allen of Hurst, Mackenzie Holt and Blaine Todd of San Angelo, and Hayden Stewart of Cedar Park. See the story on the LSC website.

Angelo State Announces 2020 Outstanding Graduate Students

Angelo State University has announced its Outstanding Graduate Student honorees for the 2019-20 academic year, as well as the recipients of four new superlative awards. Each of the 20 honorees was nominated by faculty in their respective academic departments. Winners of the four new superlative awards were selected from among the Outstanding Graduate Students by a separate committee. These awards are normally announced during the annual Graduate Research Symposium and Awards Ceremony, but the event had to be cancelled this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Angelo State Golfer Named to LSC All-Academic Team

Joselyn Jackson of Artesia, N.M., a junior on the Angelo State University Rambelles golf team, has been named to the Lone Star Conference's 2019-20 Women's Golf All-Academic Team. To be eligible for LSC academic honors, student-athletes must carry at least a 3.30 grade point average and be at least a sophomore, both academically and athletically. All-Academic Team members are selected from the list of academically qualified players, with the league's sports information directors voting based on both academic and athletic achievement. Jackson is majoring in mechanical engineering at ASU and carries a 4.0 GPA. More details are available at angelosports.com and on the LSC website.

Angelo State's Ayo Earns LSC Sports Information Student Academic Award

Lawson Ayo of Sunnyvale, a student assistant for Angelo State University's Athletic Communications Office, has earned a 2019-20 Lone Star Conference Sports Information Student Academic Award. Each academic year, the LSC recognizes sports information students who devote countless hours to assist with the operation of their athletics department while also excelling in the classroom. To be eligible, sports information students must carry at least a 3.30 GPA and have earned a minimum of 24 credit hours at the nominating institution. The qualifications mirror those required of student-athletes to gain LSC All-Academic recognition. Also a wide receiver on the ASU Rams football team, Ayo earned All-LSC and LSC All-Academic honors this past season. More details are available on the LSC website and at angelosports.com.

Angelo State Students Earn Phi Kappa Phi Certificates of Merit

Angelo State University's chapter of the Phi Kappa Phi (PKP) national honor society inducted its spring 2020 class of 51 students during a special virtual initiation ceremony April 14 on Facebook. PKP is one of the nation's most prestigious academic honor societies for students in all academic disciplines. ASU's chapter has also awarded 20 pre-membership Certificates of Merit to freshmen in the top 2.5 percent of their class and sophomores in the top 5 percent of their class in recognition of their academic success and as encouragement to join PKP when they are eligible as juniors. Angelo State Student-Athletes Make Athletic Director's Honor Roll for Fall 2019

More than 200 Angelo State University student-athletes and student-athletic trainers have been named to the ASU Athletic Director's Honor Roll for their academic performance during the 2019 fall semester. To be eligible, students must post at least a 3.0 grade point average (GPA) for a semester, or have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 during their time at ASU. Overall, the ASU Athletics Department posted a 2.99 GPA for the fall 2019 semester, with 10 of ASU's 13 teams posting a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0. Angelo State Student-Athletes Make LSC Commissioner's Honor Roll

More than 150 Angelo State University student-athletes and student-athletic trainers have earned spots on the Lone Star Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll for their academic performance during the 2019 fall semester. To be eligible for the honor roll, student-athletes must maintain at least a 3.3 GPA for the semester. A total of 146 ASU student-athletes and six student-athletic trainers made the honor roll for fall 2019, and ASU led the LSC with 51 student-athletes posting a perfect 4.0 GPA. Angelo State Honors Student Selected to Attend National Conference

Jane Bacon, a junior in the Angelo State University Honors Program, has been selected to attend the 2019 Student Conference on U.S. Affairs Oct. 30 - Nov. 2 at the United States Military Academy at West Point in New York. An intelligence and analysis major from Albuquerque, N.M., Bacon is one of only about 200 undergraduate students from 125 colleges and universities worldwide selected for the annual conference. The theme of this year's conference is "Advancing the National Interest: The Intersection of Domestic Politics and American Foreign Policy." The student delegates will hear from high-profile speakers, discuss and debate the impact of past and current events on U.S. national strategy, and collaborate on policy recommendations for the U.S. government. They will also interact with West Point cadets and experts from academia and public service in roundtable discussions on key issues facing the U.S. today. Read the full story at angelo.edu.

Angelo State Honors Student Named Presidential Fellow

Kate Creecy, a junior in the Angelo State University Honors Program, has been named a 2019-20 Presidential Fellow by the Center for the Study of the Presidency and Congress (CSPC) and will attend the center's annual Fall Leadership Conference in Washington, D.C., Oct. 30 - Nov. 2. A political science major from Denton, Creecy is one of only about 70 Presidential Fellows selected from universities throughout the U.S. and select foreign nations. She will join the other fellows at the conference to engage with policy experts, government and military officials, and leaders in the legislative process. Read the full story at angelo.edu.

Angelo State Student-Athletes Make LSC Commissioner's Honor Roll

Nearly 150 Angelo State University student-athletes and student athletic trainers have made the Lone Star Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll for the 2019 spring semester. ASU posted the highest number of honorees for any LSC school. To be eligible for the Commissioner's Honor Roll, a student-athlete or athletic trainer must earn at least a 3.3 grade point average (GPA) for the semester and be on a current team roster. Angelo State Animal Science Student Wins State Research Award

Shelby Crockett, a graduate student in the Angelo State University Department of Agriculture, won top honors for her research presentation at the annual meeting of the Texas Section, Society for Range Management earlier this month in Kerrville. An ASU alumna from Clifton, Crocket won the Graduate Student Research Presentation Contest with her project titled "Conditioning Cattle to Consume Salt Cedar." Her faculty research mentor is Dr. Cody Scott, professor of animal science. Additionally, Crockett took third place in the Three-Minute Thesis Competition. Read the full story at angelo.edu.
