ASU Trumpet Ensemble to Compete at International Conference

The Angelo State University Trumpet Ensemble has been selected to compete in the Ryan Anthony Memorial Trumpet Competition at the 48th Annual International Trumpet Guild (ITG) Conference May 28 - June 1 in Anaheim, Calif. Students from top music schools and conservatories across the U.S. and around the world applied to take part in the competition by submitting recordings in Solo, Jazz, Ensemble and Youth categories. The ASU Trumpet Ensemble was selected to compete in the Ensemble category based on its submitted recording of "Seven for Five" by Erik Morales, under the direction of Dr. John Irish, professor of music. Also selected to compete are students from throughout the U.S. and from national academies in Canada, China, Croatia, Denmark, Estonia, France, Germany, Portugal, Singapore, South Korea and Taiwan. ASU Art Students Win Scholarships & Prizes in Annual Contest

Twelve Angelo State University art students have earned scholarships and/or prizes for their various artworks submitted for the annual Art Student Scholarship Exhibit and Competition. Forty ASU studio art majors entered the competition, submitting works in ceramics, digital media, drawing, painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture and mixed media. It was juried by Shaydee Watson, a professional artist and ASU alumna, and entries were judged on creativity, originality and technical competency. The exhibit of all the submitted works will remain on public display in ASU's Gallery 193 through April 2.

Angelo State Theatre Students Earn Regional Honors

Seven Angelo State University theatre students have been either selected or nominated for prestigious individual awards from the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival (KCACTF) Region 6 for their work on the ASU Theatre production, "Equus," earlier this spring. In all, "Equus" earned 10 individual and group honors, including recognition for Excellence in Overall Company Collaboration. The individual student awards include: Charlotte Branch of Bartlett - Excellence in Sound Design Emma Cullen of Ballinger - Excellence in Lighting Design Kailey Gembler of Bandera - Excellence in Stage Management Darcy Saucedo of Austin - Excellence in Scenic Design Additionally, three ASU student actors were nominated for Irene Ryan Acting Scholarships, with scholarship winners to be announced at the KCACTF Region 6 Festival: Nataniel Brown-Schilling of Harker Heights Genesis Garza of McAllen Grant Jackson of Benjamin ASU staff costumer Mayra Torres and her student Costume Design Team were also recognized for Excellence in Horse Head Design. ASU Theatre will be notified in December whether "Equus" has been selected for performance at the KCACTF Region 6 Festival in Abilene next spring. See more details at angelo.edu/news.

Angelo State Chorale Produces Concert Video on YouTube

The Angelo State University Chorale has produced a choir concert video that is now available to the public on YouTube. Recorded at various venues around the ASU campus, the 20-minute concert video is titled "HumanKIND." It features performances of a wide variety of music, including contemporary choral music, as well as arrangements from Pentatonix and a new arrangement of the ASU Alma Mater. Angelo State String Orchestra Produces Concert Video on YouTube

Angelo State University's student String Orchestra has produced a concert video that is now available to the public on YouTube. Recorded at Southland Baptist Church, the 22-minute concert video is titled "Autumn Divertimento" and includes performances of: "Divertimento" in B Flat Major by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart Three Pieces in Baroque Style by Krzysztof Penderecki "Concerto Grosso No. 1" for String Orchestra with Piano Obligato by Ernest Bloch The String Orchestra is directed by Dr. Fagner Rocha, ASU director of orchestral activities, who also accompanied the students on violin for the concert. Twenty-seven Angelo State University art majors entered their artworks for ASU's inaugural Art Student Juried Scholarship Exhibit, which is now on display in the Carr Education-Fine Arts Building through March 22. Angelo State University's student Trumpet Ensemble has been invited to perform at the annual Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) Conference to be held Feb. 13-16 in San Antonio. Art Student Featured on San Angelo TV for Public Murals

Presley Rumsey, an Angelo State University art student from Lubbock, was featured on the "Concho Valley Live" news and information program on KLST-TV, San Angelo's CBS station. She recently completed her third public mural at Texas Trust Credit Union in San Angelo and has previously painted two other murals in the downtown area.
