ASU Announces 2024-25 Order of the Sword & Shield Inductees

Angelo State University's chapter of the Order of the Sword & Shield national honor society recently inducted 19 new student members for the 2024-25 academic year. The Order of the Sword & Shield is the only academic and professional honor society dedicated exclusively to cybersecurity, homeland security, intelligence, criminal justice, emergency management and all protective security disciplines. The ASU chapter was chartered in 2015 and is one of only 110 Official Academic Chapters in the U.S., including just six chapters in Texas. To be eligible for induction, students must be majoring in homeland security, intelligence or other protective security field at an accredited institution of higher education, and must have completed at least 50% of the credit hours required for graduation. Undergraduate students must have at least a 3.25 grade point average (GPA), and graduate students must have at least a 3.5 GPA. ASU Announces Alpha Chi Honor Society Spring 2025 Inductees

Angelo State University's chapter of the Alpha Chi national collegiate honor society recently inducted 19 new members for the spring 2025 semester during a ceremony in the Houston Harte University Center. Alpha Chi is one of the nation's most prestigious honor societies that is open to undergraduate students majoring in all academic disciplines. To be eligible, students must rank in the top 10% of seniors at their college or university, or in the top 7.5% of juniors. ASU is located in Alpha Chi Region I, and Dr. Karl Havlak, College of Science and Engineering, is the head faculty advisor for the ASU chapter. Dr. Dennis Hall, College of Science and Engineering, is the Region I secretary/treasurer and serves on the Alpha Chi National Council. Angelo State University's chapter of the Phi Kappa Phi (PKP) national honor society recently inducted its spring 2025 class of 46 new student members during a special initiation ceremony in the Houston Harte University Center. PKP is the nation's oldest and most selective collegiate honor society for students in all academic disciplines. Invitations to join PKP are extended to juniors in the top 7.5% of their class, and to seniors and graduate students in the top 10% of their class. PKP is considered one of the nation's most prestigious academic honorary societies along with Phi Beta Kappa, which recognizes majors in the arts and sciences, and Sigma Xi, which honors majors in the sciences. Angelo State's Hill Earns National Kappa Delta Pi Award

Abbie Hill of McKinney, a senior at Angelo State University, has been selected for a Distinguished Chapter Officer Award by the national chapter of the Kappa Delta Pi (KDP) international honor society for education. A teacher education major, Hill previously served as president of ASU's Mu Gamma chapter of KDP. She earned her Distinguished Chapter Officer Award for her leadership during the 2020-21 academic year. She is now completing her student-teaching in her hometown of McKinney in preparation to graduate in December.
