Angelo State Golfers Named Academic All-Americans

Angelo State University Rambelles golfers Laura Klimova and Lacey Stevens have earned Academic All-America honors from the Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) for the 2023-24 season. To be named a WGCA Academic All-American, student-athletes much have at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average (GPA), be an amateur and on their team's roster through the end of the season, and have played in at least 50% of their teams competitive rounds. Klimova is a graduate student from Prague, Czechia, studying counseling psychology. She was also named a 2024 Lone Star Conference Scholar-Athlete. Stevens is a junior from Pleasanton, majoring in natural resource management. She also won the 2024 ASU Holland's Award for golf. See more details at angelosports.com.

ASU's Klimova & Rosas Named LSC Scholar-Athletes

Angelo State Rambelles golfer Laura Klimova and Rams baseball player Rance Rosas have earned the 2024 Lone Star Conference Scholar-Athlete Awards for ASU. Each academic year, the LSC presents a Scholar-Athlete Award to one male and one female student-athlete who are members of the graduating class at each LSC institution. Recipients are selected by their campus and represent outstanding accomplishments in scholarship, athletics and leadership. Honorees must have participated in their sport for at least two years. Klimova is a graduate student in counseling psychology from Prague, Czechia, and Rosas is a senior health science professions major from San Angelo. Both also earned the 2023-24 ASU Athletic Academic Excellence Awards in April at the annual Holland's Banquet. Klimova led the Belles in scoring twice during the golf season, highlighted by a sixth-place finish at the Top of Texas Invitational. Rosas helped the Rams make back-to-back appearances at the NCAA D-II Baseball National Championship, including the team's first national title in 2023. He also won the 2023 Elite 90 Award, which goes to the student-athlete with the highest GPA at each national championship. See more details at angelosports.com and on the LSC website.

ASU Student-Athletes Make Spring 2024 LSC Commissioner's Honor Roll

More than 160 Angelo State University Rams and Rambelles student-athletes have been named to the Lone Star Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll for their academic performance during the spring 2024 semester. To be eligible, student-athletes must have a minimum 3.30 GPA for the semester and be on an active roster. Participants on all 19 LSC championship sports and five non-conference sports, as well as athletic training and athletics performance student staff, are included among the spring 2024 honorees. ASU Rams Clark & Heuertz Earns Baseball All-America Honors

Richard "Tripp" Clark of Waco and Caleb Heuertz of San Angelo, both seniors on the Angelo State University Rams baseball team, have been named 2024 NCAA Division II All-Americans by the D2 Baseball organization. An accounting major and the Rams' catcher, Clark led all of NCAA D-II with 92 RBI, which also set a new ASU single-season record. He also ranked third nationally in doubles (25), fifth in hits (98) and 13th in batting average (.428). He picks up his fourth All-America first-team nod, having already been honored by the ABCA, D2CCA and NCBWA. A business administration major and relief pitcher, Heuertz was named to the All-America second team. He went 2-2 with a 2.29 ERA and seven saves in 25 appearances this season, including notching 69 strikeouts and only conceding 13 earned runs in 51 innings pitched. He also pitched 21 innings in the postseason with 26 strikeouts. This is the first All-America honor of his ASU career. Both Clark and Heuertz played key roles in leading the Rams to their fourth straight appearance at the NCAA D-II College World Series, where they finished as national runners up. ASU Belles Tennis Players Named ITA All-Americans

Three student-athletes on the Angelo State University Rambelles tennis team have earned All-America honors from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) for their performances during the 2023-24 season. To be eligible for ITA All-America honors, players must finish the season in the top 20 of the ITA singles rankings and/or in the top 10 of the ITA doubles rankings. Letizia Corsini, a sophomore from Porto Sant'Elpidio, Italy, was named an All-American in singles. She went 22-1 for ASU in the No. 1 singles position this season and was a perfect 10-0 in Lone Star Conference play. Also named the LSC Player of the Year, she was ranked third in the final ITA Division II singles rankings, the highest year-end singles ranking in team history. Junior Avery Durham of Madison, Wisconsin, and senior Eva Schwartz of L'isle-Sur-La-Sorgue, France, were also named All-Americans in doubles. Playing No. 1 doubles for ASU, they went 18-5 overall and 7-3 in the LSC. Also named to the All-LSC first team in doubles, the pair was ranked No. 10 in the final ITA Division II rankings. ASU's Corsini Named Tennis Academic All-American

Letizia Corsini of Porto Sant'Elpidio, Italy, a sophomore on the Angelo State University Rambelles tennis team, has been named to the 2024 NCAA Division II Academic All-America second team by the College Sports Communicators (CSC) organization. A mechanical engineering major, Corsini is carrying a 3.60 grade point average (GPA). She was previously named the Lone Star Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Year and to the All-LSC first team for singles. She and her partner, Ayda Guler, also earned All-LSC honorable mention for doubles. Corsini went 19-0 in singles during the regular season and finished 22-1 overall in singles, while she and Guler finished 22-2 in doubles. ASU's Vaughn Earns LSC Track & Field Athlete of the Year Award

Allison Vaughn of Christoval, a multi-event athlete on the Angelo State University Rambelles track and field team, has been named th 2024 Lone Star Conference Female Field Athlete of the Year for the outdoor season. A junior nursing major, Vaughn was named a first-team All-American after finishing eighth in the triple jump at the NCAA Division II Outdoor National Championships with a mark of 2.60 meters (41-1.25). She was also a provisional qualifier in the heptathlon and 400-meter hurdles. At the LSC Outdoor Championships, Vaughn was the Belles' high-point athlete, collecting 21 points by finishing second in the triple jump and third in the heptathlon and 400-meter hurdles. She was also named to the All-LSC first team for the outdoor season. The LSC Athlete of the Year honors were voted on by the conference's head coaches. ASU's Clark Picks Up Third Baseball All-America Honor

For the third time this postseason, Angelo State University Rams catcher Richard "Tripp" Clark has been named to the 2024 NCAA Division II All-America first team, this time by the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA). A senior accounting major from Waco, Clark leads the Rams in batting average (.445), doubles (24), triples (6), home runs (13) and RBI (88). He also ranks second in NCAA D-II in RBI, is tied for third in hits, is tied for fourth in doubles, and is eighth in batting average. Now a consensus first-team All-American, Clark also earned All-America accolades from the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) and Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA). He was previously named to the All-Lone Star Conference first team and earned first-team All-South Central Region honors from the D2CCA, NCBWA and ABCA/Rawlings as he helped lead the Rams to their fourth straight South Central Regional title. A senior accounting major, Clark ranks second in NCAA D-II in RBI (88) and is tied for third in hits (94), tied for fourth in doubles (24) and is eighth in batting average (.445). He was previously named to the All-Lone Star Conference first team and earned first-team All-South Central Region honors from the D2CCA, National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) and ABCA/Rawlings as he helped lead the Rams to their fourth straight South Central Regional title. ASU Rams Baseball Players Named ABCA All-Region

Six players on the Angelo State University Rams baseball team have been named to the 2024 NCAA Division II All-South Central Region teams by the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA). Making the ABCA/Rawlings all-region first team are catcher Richard "Tripp" Clark of Waco and pitchers Dax Dathe of Round Rock, Caleb Heuertz of San Angelo, and Braxton Pearson of Georgetown. Clark leads NCAA D-II with 92 RBI and led the Lone Star Conference in batting average, slugging percentage, on-base percentage, OPS and RBI. Dathe is 9-3 with a 4.44 ERA and led the LSC in strikeouts. Heuertz, a reliever, is 1-1 with a 2.09 ERA and seven saves in 23 appearances. Pearson missed part of the season due to injury, but has still gone 6-3 with a 3.99 ERA. These four first-teams are now eligible for ABCA/Rawlings All-America honors, which will be announced May 31. Making the all-region second team for the Rams are outfielder Jacob Guerrero of Colleyville and pitcher Alezeah Gutierrez of El Paso. Guerrero is hitting .368 with 10 home runs and a team-high 72 runs scored, and he led the LSC in stolen bases. Gutierrez is 9-4 with a 4.26 ERA, and opponents are only hitting .216 against him. They will lead the Rams into their fourth straight NCAA D-II College World Series starting June 1 in Cary, N.C. See the official announcement on the ABCA website.

ASU Softball Players Earn Academic All-District Honors

Angelo State University Rambelles softball players Cheyenne Floyd of Liberty Hill and Tatiana Trotter of Lubbock have been named to the 2024 Academic All-District Team by the College Sports Communicators (CSC) organization. Floyd, a junior starting pitcher, is majoring in interdisciplinary studies. She went 20-10 in the circle this season with a 1.89 ERA and 167 strikeouts in 163 innings. She notched 10 complete games, two shutouts and a save. She was also named the D2CCA South Central Region and Lone Star Conference Pitcher of the Year, and she made the LSC All-Academic Team. Trotter, a sophomore outfielder, is majoring in intelligence and analysis. She led the Rambelles with a .353 battingaverage and 43 RBI, and she also set a new team single-season record for triples. She was also named to the All-LSC second team and NFCA All-South Central Region second team. ASU Track & Field Athletes Earn All-America Honors

Seven members of the Angelo State University Rams and Rambelles track and field teams earned All-America status for their performances at the 2024 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field National Championships May 23-25 in Emporia, Kansas. For the Rambelles, Fatoumata Kabo of Carpenedolo, Italy, won the national title in the 400-meter hurdles. She then joined with teammates Zykia McDaniel of Converse, Kylie Frush of Glen Rose and Shadae Findley of Manchester, Jamaica, to win the national title in the 4x400-meter relay. Findley also earned a second All-America accolade by finishing third in the 400 meters. Allison Vaughn of Christoval was also named an All-American after finishing eighth in the triple jump. For the Rams, Jacobee Jones of Rowlett earned All-America status for the second straight year as he finished third in the pole vault, and Mark Burdin of Kazan, Russia, was named an All-American after finishing fourth in the decathlon. ASU Rams Earn D2CCA Baseball All-Region Honors

Four players on the Angelo State University Rams baseball team have been named to the 2024 NCAA Division II All-South Central Region Teams by the Division 2 Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA). Senior catcher Tripp Clark of Waco and junior starting pitcher Dax Dathe of Round Rock were named to the all-region first team. Junior outfielder Jacob Guerrero of Colleyville and senior relief pitcher Caleb Heuertz of San Angelo were named to the all-region second team. Clark leads the Lone Star Conference in batting average (.448), slugging percentage (.796), OPS (1.323) and RBI (83). Dathe is currently 8-3 with a 4.38 ERA and leads the LSC in strikeouts (104). Guerrero leads the LSC in stolen bases and is hitting .364 with 20 doubles and 62 RBI. Heuertz boasts a 2.41 ERA and a team-high seven saves in 22 appearances. All four were previously named to the All-South Central Region first team by the NCBWA. They will lead the Rams into the South Central Super Regional this weekend in Lubbock. ASU Trumpet Ensemble to Compete at International Conference

The Angelo State University Trumpet Ensemble has been selected to compete in the Ryan Anthony Memorial Trumpet Competition at the 48th Annual International Trumpet Guild (ITG) Conference May 28 - June 1 in Anaheim, Calif. Students from top music schools and conservatories across the U.S. and around the world applied to take part in the competition by submitting recordings in Solo, Jazz, Ensemble and Youth categories. The ASU Trumpet Ensemble was selected to compete in the Ensemble category based on its submitted recording of "Seven for Five" by Erik Morales, under the direction of Dr. John Irish, professor of music. Also selected to compete are students from throughout the U.S. and from national academies in Canada, China, Croatia, Denmark, Estonia, France, Germany, Portugal, Singapore, South Korea and Taiwan. Angelo State's Floyd Named Softball All-American

Cheyenne Floyd of Liberty Hill, a pitcher on the Angelo State University Rambelles softball team, has been named to the 2024 NCAA Divsion II All-America second team by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA). An interdisciplinary studies major, Floyd went 20-10 in the circle for the Belles with a 1.89 ERA. She posted 167 strikeouts in 163 innings and held opposing hitters to a .207 average. She was second in the LSC in wins and strikeouts, third in ERA and fifth in innings pitched as she helped lead the Belles to a 37-18 overall record and a spot in the NCAA D-II South Central Regional. In addition to her All-America honor, Floyd was named LSC Pitcher of the Year and D2CCA South Central Region Pitcher of the Year. ASU Track & Field Athletes Earn USTFCCCA All-Region Honors

Twenty-one members of the Angelo State University Rams and Rambelles track and field teams have earned 30 All-South Central Region accolades from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) for their performances during the 2024 outdoor season. For the Rams, 10 student-athletes garnered 10 all-region honors. For the No. 7 Rambelles, 11 student-athletes notched 20 all-region honors, including three each for junior Maricia Spence of Christiana, Jamaica (heptathlon, long jump, 4x100 relay), and sophomore Fatoumata Kabo of Carpenedolo, Italy (400-meter hurdles, 4x400 relay, 4x100 relay). The top five individuals in each event are named all-region, as well as the members of the top three teams in each relay event. Next up for many of the Rams and Belles is the NCAA Division II Outdoor National Championships May 23-25 in Emporia, Kansas. Angelo State University Announces Spring 2024 Dean's List

Angelo State University in San Angelo, Texas, has announced the students achieving the Dean's List for the 2024 spring semester. ASU's Spence Named LSC Track & Field Academic Athlete of the Year

Maricia Spence of Christiana, Jamaica, a multi-event athlete on the Angelo State University Rambelles track and field team, has been named the Lone Star Conference's 2024 Women's Outdoor Track and Field Academic Athlete of the Year. A graduate student in the Master of Business Administration (MBA) program, Spence carries a perfect 4.0 grade-point average. She has earned multiple LSC Commissioner's Honor Roll citations and received ASU's 2023-24 Kathleen Brasfield Female Athlete of the Year Award. She has also posted NCAA Division II Top 10 marks in several events during the 2024 outdoor season, including the heptathlon, 100-meter hurdles and long jump, and she holds the LSC Championships record in the heptathlon. Spence was also a member of the Belles' 4x100 relay team that set a new program record, and she currently ranks third in NCAA D-II in the heptathlon, sixth in the 100-meter hurdles and seventh in the long jump. ASU Track & Field Athletes Earn All-Conference Honors

Twenty-three members of the Angelo State University track and field teams have been named to the All-Lone Star Conference Teams for their performances at the LSC Outdoor Championships held May 9-11 at ASU. The No. 7 Rambelles placed second at the LSC Championships, winning five LSC titles and earning nine All-LSC first-team selections, three on the All-LSC second team and one on the All-LSC third team. The Rams placed fourth on the men's side, notching two LSC titles and earning five All-LSC first-team honorees, four on the All-LSC second team and one on the All-LSC third team. ASU Rams Earn NCBWA Baseball All-Region Honors

Four players on the Angelo State University Rams baseball team have been named to the 2024 NCAA Division II All-South Central Region first team by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA). Junior outfielder Jacob Guerrero of Colleyville makes the NCBWA all-region first team of the second straight season. He is currently batting .362 with 20 doubles and 59 RBI, and he leads the Lone Star Conference with 26 stolen bases. He was named the NCBWA National Player of the Week on March 20. Senior catcher Richard "Tripp" Clark of Waco also earns his second NCBWA all-region honor after making the second team last year. He leads the LSC in batting average (.444), slugging percentage (.794), OPS (1.314) and RBI (79). He also ranks in the top 10 for hits, home runs and on-base percentage. Junior starting pitcher Dax Dathe of Round Rock makes the all-region team in his first season for the Rams. He currently has an 8-3 record and 4.35 ERA, and his 99 strikeouts in 72.1 innings leads the LSC while his ERA ranks fourth. Senior relief pitcher Caleb Heuertz of San Angelo earns his first all-region honor. In 20 appearances this season, he holds a 2.61 ERA and six saves. He is the only relief pitcher from the LSC on the all-region first team. All four players were also named to the All-LSC first team. They will lead the Rams into the South Central Regional starting on Thursday in Grand Junction, Colo. See more details at angelosports.com.

Angelo State Announces 2024 Outstanding Graduate Students

Angelo State University honored the 2024 Outstanding Graduate Students from each if its five academic colleges during the recent Graduate Research Symposium and Awards Ceremony in the Houston Harte University Center. The 19 honorees were nominated by faculty in their respective academic departments, and each received a certificate of recognition. Three additional superlative awards were also conferred. Angelo State's Floyd Named Regional Softball Pitcher of the Year

Cheyenne Floyd of Liberty Hill, a junior pitcher on the Angelo State University Rambelles softball team, has been named the 2024 NCAA Division II South Central Region Pitcher of the Year by the Division II Conference Commissioner's Association (D2CCA). She went 20-10 in the circle this season with a 1.89 ERA and recorded 167 strikeouts in 163 innings while holding opposing hitters to a .207 batting average. The interdisciplinary studies major was also named the Lone Star Conference Pitcher of the Year and to the All-LSC first team, LSC All-Academic Team and All-LSC Tournament Team. She was also named to the All-South Central Region first team by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA). ASU Rams Baseball Players Earn All-Conference Honors

Seven players on the Angelo State University Rams baseball team have earned eight Lone Star Conference postseason awards for their performances during the 2024 regular season. Senior catcher Richard "Tripp" Clark of Waco and junior outfielder Jacob Guerrero of Colleyville were both named to the All-LSC first team for the second straight year. Clark leads the LSC in batting average (.430), slugging percentage (.794), OPS (1.312) and RBI (79). Guerrero leads the LSC in stolen bases (26) and is hitting .374 with 20 doubles and 59 RBI. The accounting major was also named to the LSC All-Academic Team. Four pitchers from the Rams' staff that led the LSC in team ERA have also been honored. Junior starter Dax Dathe of Round Rock (8-2, 4.24 ERA) and junior reliever Caleb Heuertz of San Angelo (2.70 ERA, 6 saves) were both named to the All-LSC first team. Junior starters Alezeah Gutierrez of El Paso (7-4, 4.59 ERA) and Braxton Pearson of Georgetown (5-1, 3.12 ERA) were named to the All-LSC second team. Dathe leads the LSC with 95 strikeouts and is second in ERA; Heuertz is the only reliever on the first team; Gutierrez is fifth in ERA; and Pearson makes the second team despite being limited to just nine starts due to injury. Additionally, senior Conagher Sands of Bakersfield, Calif., was named to the All-LSC third team at designated hitter. He is batting .347 with 18 doubles and 37 RBI in 42 starts. Angelo State University Rambelles softball players Cheyenne Floyd of Liberty Hill and Tatiana Trotter of Lubbock have been named to 2024 NCAA Division II All-South Central Region Teams by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA). Floyd, a junior pitcher, was named to the all-region first team. She went 20-8 in the circle during the regular season with a 1.72 ERA and recorded 162 strikeouts in 151 innings while holding opposing hitters to a .200 batting average. The interdisciplinary studies major was also named the Lone Star Conference Pitcher of the Year. Trotter, a sophomore outfielder, was named to the all-region second team. During the regular season, she led the Belles in batting average (.371), slugging percentage (.706), RBI (43) and triples (9). The intelligence and analysis major started all 53 games and set a new ASU single-season record for triples. She was also named to the All-LSC second team. See more details at angelosports.com.

ASU Economics Students Present Research at National Conference

Angelo State University economics majors Maggie Brockman of Midland and Emma Krehbiel of Kerrville were selected to present their undergraduate research projects at the recent 48th annual meeting of the Association of Private Enterprise Education (APEE) in Las Vegas, Nevada. Fewer than 30 students nationwide were chosen through a competitive application process to make research presentations in the APEE conference's Undergraduate Research Competition. Brockman and Krehbiel are the first-ever ASU students to earn selection. Brockman's presentation was titled "Recessions and Creativity: How Economic Shocks Affect Musical Innovation," and Krehbiel's presentation was titled "Long-Term Effects of Public Debt." ASU Announces 2024 'BizPitch' Student Business Contest Winners

Six Angelo State University students earned cash prizes for their new business start-up pitches in the 2024 BizPitch student entrepreneurship contest sponsored by ASU's Small Business Development Center (SBDC) and Norris-Vincent College of Business. The BizPitch competition began in January when individual ASU students or teams of up to four students were invited to submit video pitches of their ideas for new business startups. A panel of ASU business faculty and SBDC specialists selected five finalists to make live pitch presentations to a panel of judges made up of local business professionals. ASU Rambelles Softball Players Earn All-Conference Honors

Five players on the Angelo State University Rambelles softball team have earned Lone Star Conference postseason honors for their performances during the 2024 regular season. Topping the list is junior pitcher Cheyenne Floyd of Liberty Hill, who was named LSC Pitcher of the Year and to the All-LSC first team and LSC All-Academic Team. Her battery mate, senior catcher Keilei Garcia of Hemet, Calif., was named to the All-LSC second team. Also making the All-LSC second team is sophomore outfielder Tatiana Trotter of Lubbock, who set a new ASU single-season record for triples (9). Junior infielder/pitcher Averie Gunther of Wylie and freshman outfielder Laylonna Applin of Stamford were named to the All-LSC third team, and Applin was also named to the LSC All-Freshman Team. The Belles posted a 37-15 overall record and went 28-14 in the LSC to finish third in the regular-season standings.
