Fifteen members of the Angelo State University Rams and Rambelles track and field teams have earned NCAA Division II All-South Central Region honors from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) for their performances during the 2023 indoor season. The top five individuals in the region in each event earned all-region distinction, as well as each member of the region's top three relay teams. Seven Rambelles won a total of 14 all-region honors, while eight Rams earned 11 all-region nods. Four players on the Angelo State University Rams basketball team have earned Lone Star Conference postseason awards after helping lead ASU to a 23-5 record and runner-up finish in the LSC West Division. Guard Stephen Webb, a graduate student from St. Louis, Missouri, was named the LSC Defensive Player of the Year and to the LSC All-Defensive Team in his first season at ASU. He led the LSC in steals per game (1.8) and finished second in total steals (49) while leading the Rams defense that allowed just 66.6 points per game and forced 15.3 turnovers per game. He also chipped in 5.0 points and 3.7 rebounds per game. This is Webb's fourth Defensive Player of the Year honor after earning his previous three awards in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Junior guard Kevon Godwin of Blountstown, Fla., was named to the All-LSC first team. He led the Rams and was third in the LSC in points per game (17.8). He also led the LSC in 3-point shooting (40.8%). Senior forward Fredelin De La Cruz of El Seibo, Dominican Republic, and junior guard Willie Guy of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, were named to the All-LSC second team. De La Cruz averaged 10.6 points and 6.7 rebounds per game while also chipping in 34 steals and 10 blocks. Guy averaged 8.7 points and a team-high 2.9 assists per game while also adding 74 rebounds and 26 steals. Sawyer Lloyd of Wall, a junior guard on the Angelo State University Rambelles basketball team, has been named the Lone Star Conference Academic Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year for the 2022-23 season. Lloyd ranked in the LSC's top 10 in multiple statistical categories during the regular season while also earning her bachelor's degree in exercise science and starting on her master's degree in coaching, sport, recreation and fitness administration. She has also been a fixture on the LSC Commissioner's Honor Roll. On the court, Lloyd led the LSC in steals (80) and assist/turnover ration (2.2) while also averaging 15.5 points and 7.7 rebounds per game. She earned six LSC Player of the Week honors during the season (4 defensive, 2 offensive), the most in the conference. Four players on the Angelo State University Rambelles basketball team have earned Lone Star Conference postseason awards after helping lead ASU to a 22-6 record and runner-up finish in the LSC standings. Junior guard Sawyer Lloyd of Wall was named to the All-LSC first team and also picked up Defensive Player of the Year and Academic Player of the Year honors. She led the LSC in steals (80) and assist/turnover ratio (2.2) while averaging 15.5 points 7.7 rebounds and 2.9 steals per game. She also completed her bachelor's degree in exercise science and started on her master's degree in coaching, sport, recreation and fitness administration. Junior forward Tayjanna McGhee-Pleasant of Amarillo was also named to the All-LSC first team. She led the Belles and ranked third in the LSC in points per game (16.3) and rebounds per game (8.8). Sophomore forward Madeline Stephens of Lubbock was named to the All-LSC second team after averaging 13.6 points and 7.8 rebounds per game. Freshman guard Landry Morrow of Ackerly was named to the LSC All-Freshman Team after averaging 20.4 minutes, 4.3 points and 2.4 rebounds per game, while also notching 67 rebounds and 66 assists. Ashlyn Lerma of Highland Village, a senior infielder on the Angelo State University Rambelles softball team, has been named the Lone Star Conference Hitter of the Week for Week 4 of the season ending Feb. 26. In a week that saw the Rambelles claim series wins over UT Permian Basin and No. 2 UT Tyler, Lerma hit .462 over the six games, with half her six hits going for extra bases. She also added seven walks, eight stolen bases and four runs scored. Over ASU's 20 games so far this season, she is batting .453 with a .603 on-base percentage, leads the LSC with 20 walks and leads all of NCAA Division II with 28 stolen bases. Tayjanna McGhee-Pleasant of Amarillo, a junior forward on the Angelo State University Belles basketball team, has been named the Lone Star Conference Women's Defensive Player of the Week for 16 of the season ending Feb. 26. This is her third LSC Player of the Week honor this season. In the Belles' lone game last week, McGhee-Pleasant pulled down 10 rebounds (nine defensive) and had three blocks in a 71-55 victory over UT Permian Basin that clinched a share of the LSC West Division title for ASU. She set the tone as the Belles held the Falcons to just 27.9% shooting, and she completed a double-double by also chipping in with 14 points. Oussama Elbouchayby of Marrakech, Morocco, a freshman on the Angelo State University Rams track and field team, set a new NCAA Division II indoor record in the 800 meters at the Last Chance Indoor Qualifier on Feb. 26 at Boston University. Already the Lone Star Conference title holder in the event this season, Elbouchayby set the new record by posting a time of 1:47.11, breaking the old record of 1:47.34 set in 2012. Jordan Williams of Georgetown, an infielder on the Angelo State University Rams baseball team, has been named the Lone Star Conference Hitter of the Week for Week 3 of the season ending Feb. 19. As the Rams won three out of four games at home against UT Permian Basin, Williams batted .533 with eight hits in 15 at bats, including a double and two home runs, and collected three walks, seven RBI and six runs scored. Along the way, he also broke ASU's career hits record. He now has 250 hits, breaking the record previously held by his former teammate Nick Novak (2017-21). A graduate student in his fifth season with the Rams, Williams is hitting .390 through ASU first 12 games with a team-high four home runs, .732 slugging percentage and 18 runs scored. The Angelo State University Rambelles 4x400-meter relay team has been named the National Athlete of the Week by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association for the week ending Feb. 19. This marks just the second time in the history of the award that a relay team has won. At the Lone Star Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships in Lubbock, the ASU relay team of Shiean Walters of Coleman, Zykia McDanial of Converse, Maricia Spence of Christiana, Jamaica, and Shadae Findley of Manchester, Jamaica, won the LSC title and set a new NCAA Division II record with their time of 3:38.38. That topped the previous record of 3:39.24 set by Lincoln University in 1997. In addition to their relay title, Spence won LSC titles in the pentathlon and long jump, and Walter won the LSC title in the 400 meters, setting a new LSC record with her time of 53.25. Jordan Williams of Georgetown, a graduate student infielder on the Angelo State University Rams baseball team, set a new ASU career record for hits during the Rams' home series against UT Permian Basin Feb. 17-19 at Foster Field at 1st Community Credit Union Stadium. As the Rams won three of four games over the Falcons, Williams collected a total of eight hits and now has 250 for his ASU career, breaking the previous career hits record held by Nick Novak (2017-21). Now in his fifth season with the Rams, Williams has collected a host of awards, including Lone Star Conference Freshman of the Year, multiple All-LSC and LSC All-Defensive Team selections, and one All-America honor. In 2021 he became just the second Rams player to play all nine positions in a single game. In ASU's 12 games so far this season, Williams is batting .390 with a team-high 4 home runs and .732 slugging percentage, and he is tied for second on the team with 14 RBI.

The Angelo State University Rambelles track and field team finished second at the 2023 Lone Star Conference Indoor Championships in Lubbock with Maricia Spence of Christiana, Jamaica, Shiean Walters of Coleman and the 4x400-meter relay team all claiming LSC titles for ASU. Spence, a junior multi-event athlete, won her second straight LSC title in the pentathlon with 3,862 points. She also took first place in the long jump with a mark of 6.04 meters (19'-9.75"), and she finished second in the 60-meter hurdles. Walters, a junior sprinter, won the LSC title in the 400 meters and set a new LSC record with her time of 52.25. Walters and Spence, along with junior Zykia McDaniel of Converse and junior Shadae Findley of Manchester, Jamaica, made up ASU's 4x400-meter relay team that set a new NCAA Division II record of 3:38.38 to claim the LSC title. Elvis Kryukov of Limassol, Cyprus, and Oussama Elbouchayby of Marrakech, Morocco, members of the Angelo State University Rams track and field team, both won Lone Star Conference titles in their respective events at the 2023 LSC Indoor Championships Feb. 18-19 in Lubbock. Kryukov, a junior multi-events athlete, won his second straight LSC title in the heptathlon, finishing with 5,450 points while claiming victories in the long jump and shot put rounds. He also posted a runner-up finish in the individual 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.01. Elbouchayby, a freshman middle-distance runner, took first place in the 800 meters with a time of 1:51.04 to claim the LSC title. He also finished second in the mile with a time of 4:15.10. Shadae Findley, a junior on the Angelo State University Rambelles track and field team, has been named the Lone Star Conference Women's Track Athlete of the Week for Week 6 of the indoor season ending Feb. 12. A native of Manchester, Jamaica, Findley posted the top LSC performance in the 400 meters at the Jarvis Scott Open in Lubbock with a time of 54.98. She also helped lead the Belles' 4x400 relay team to the best LSC showing at the meet with a time of 3:41.65. That relay time is the second-fastest in all of NCAA Division II this season, and Findley's individual time ranks seventh in D-II. Sawyer Lloyd of Wall, a junior guard on the Angelo State University Belles basketball team, has been named the Lone Star Confererence Offensive Player of the Week for Week 15 of the season ending Feb. 19. This is Lloyd's sixth LSC Player of the Week honor (two offensive, four defensive), the most in the conference this season. Against the two top teams in the LSC standings, Lloyd scored a total of 50 points over the two games last week, including a career-high 34 points in the Belles' 73-69 victory over No. 4 West Texas A&M. She followed that up with 16 points and seven rebounds in a 62-51 loss to UT Tyler. She is averaging 15.8 points, 7.8 rebounds and a team-high 4.5 assists per game. During the Rams' 4-game sweep of Cameron University in Lawton, Okla., Pearson tossed a complete-game, one-hit shutout in Game 3 of the series to lead the Rams to a 12-0 victory. He was also named the Lone Star Conference Pitcher of the Week after he recorded 10 strikeouts, allowed only two baserunners and held the Aggies to a team batting average of .043. Over 170 Angelo State University student-athletes and student-athletic trainers have been named to the Lone Star Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll for the 2022 fall semester in recognition of their hard work in the classroom. A total of 171 Rams and Rambelles made the honor roll, including 65 with a perfect 4.0 grade point average. Angelo State University Rams baseball players Austin Beck of Allen and Aaron Munson of San Antonio have been named to the 2023 Preseason All-Region Team by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA). Beck, a sophomore infielder, was named Lone Star Conference Freshman of the Year after last season. He hit .420 with 59 RBI and 84 runs scored, primarily from the lead-off spot. He also led the LSC in stolen bases with 33. Munson, a junior pitcher, went 11-3 last season to lead the Rams in wins. He notched 81 strikeouts in 94.1 innings and held opposing batters to a .277 average. He was named to the All-LSC second team. Beck and Munson lead the Rams into the 2023 season that begins Feb. 3 at home against Eastern New Mexico. Kevon Godwin of Blountstown, Florida, a junior guard on the Angelo State University Rams basketball team, has been named the Lone Star Conference Offensive Player of the Week for Week 11 of the season ending Jan. 22. This marks the third time Godwin has earned the weekly honor this season. As the Rams went 2-0 for the week with road wins over St. Mary's University and St. Edward's University, Godwin spearheaded the offense, shooting 69.2% from the field and 81.8% from three-point range. He scored 21 points against St. Mary's and then topped that by pouring in 26 points against St. Edward's. Maribel Lopez of Del Rio, a second-year graduate student at Angelo State University, has earned an internship in the office of U.S. Congressman August Pfluger for the 2023 spring semester. Lopez is pursuing her master's degree in homeland security at Angelo State. She is particularly interested in immigration and human trafficking. She is one of two Texas college students selected to intern in Rep. Pfluger's Washington, D.C., office this spring. Her duties will include answering phone calls, working on legislative research, and helping with other daily office functions. Pfluger, a republican, represents the 11th District of Texas.

Paxton Scheurer of Mansfield, a senior infielder on the Angelo State University Rambelles softball team, has been named the Lone Star Conference Preseason Player of the Year heading into the 2023 season. The reigning LSC Player of the Year and Academic Player of the Year, Scheurer led the LSC in home runs (23), RBI (72) and slugging percentage (.842) last season. She also posted a .370 batting average and ranked in the top three nationally in homers and RBI. She was a consensus All-American and an Academic All-American. This season, she will lead the Rambelles who have been picked to finish second in the LSC and are ranked No. 18 nationally in the NFCA Preseason Poll. Four members of the Angelo State University track and field teams, two Rams and two Rambelles, have been named Lone Star Conference Indoor Track and Field Preseason Athletes to Watch leading into the 2023 season. Elvis Kryukov of Limassol, Cyprus, and Oussama Elbouchayby of Marrakech, Morocco, earned preseason honors for the Rams. Maricia Spence of Christiana, Jamaica, and Shiean Walters of Colemen earned the preseason honors for the Rambelles. Kryukov was an indoor first-team All-American last season in the heptathlon and is the reigning NCAA Division II outdoor national champion in the decathlon. Angelo State University intramural flag football teams, including the inaugural unified team of ASU students and Special Olympics athletes, posted two top-four placings at the 2023 NIRSA National Flag Football Tournament held Jan. 6-8 in Round Rock. In the Unified Division, ASU's The Untouchables fell just short of playing for a national championship, losing in the semifinals to a team from the University of Florida, 32-26. Along the way, they won their pool by defeating teams from Colorado State University and the University of Wisconsin, and followed that up with another win over CSU to advance to the semifinals. William Gilmore of San Angelo, a Special Olympics (SO) athlete on The Untouchables, was named an All-American in the Unified Division representing ASU. In the Co-Rec Division, ASU's Troll Tide also advanced to the national semifinals, defeating teams from Georgia Southern University and the University of Maryland before dropping the return match with Georgia Southern, 13-12, in their semifinal. Tayjanna McGhee-Pleasant of Amarillo and Sawyer Lloyd of Wall, both juniors on the Angelo State University Belles basketball team, have been named the Lone Star Conference Women's Basketball Players of the Week for Week 9 of the season ending Jan. 8. McGhee-Pleasant picked up her second Offensive Player of the Week nod after posting a double-double in both of the Belles' wins over No. 13 West Texas A&M and Lubbock Christian. She scored a season-high 22 points against WTAM and added 12 rebounds, four blocks and four steals. She then posted 16 points and 11 rebounds against LCU, including the game-winning jumper with under a second to play. She ranks third in the LSC in scoring at 16.3 points per game. Lloyd snagged her third straight LSC Defensive Player of the Week honor and fourth in the last five weeks. She led the Belles' defense that held both WTAM and LCU to season lows in shooting percentage. She totalled 10 steals and 12 rebounds over the two games, along with 13 points and 15 assists. Sawyer Lloyd of Wall, a junior guard on the Angelo State University Belles basketball team, has been named the Lone Star Conference Women's Basketball Defensive Player of the Week for Week 8 of the season ending Jan. 1. This marks the third time she has won the LSC's weekly defensive honor this season. As the Belles swept road games at Western New Mexico (54-50) and Eastern New Mexico (73-63), Lloyd picked up right where she left off in 2022. Against WNMU, she posted 11 points, six rebounds, three assists, two blocks and a steal. She then went off against ENMU with 19 points, 13 rebounds, six steals, five assists and two more blocks. It was her fifth double-double of the season, and she now leads the LSC in steals per game (2.8). Angelo State University in San Angelo, Texas, has announced the students achieving the Dean's List for the 2022 fall semester. To be eligible for the ASU Dean's List, full-time undergraduate students must maintain a 3.25 or better grade point average on a 4.0 scale.
