Oussama El Bouchayby of Marrakesh, Morocco, a freshman on the Angelo State University Rams track and field team, has been named the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) National Athlete of the Week for the week ending April 2. This marks the second straight week he has won the national award. Competing at the Texas Relays in Austin, El Bouchayby won the 800-meters invitational with a new meet-record time of 1:45.31, which also ranks No. 1 overall in the world this year. It's also the second-fastest time in NCAA Division II history. El Bouchayby is the first D-II athlete to earn back-to-back USTFCCCA weekly honors this year. Steve Webb of St. Louis, Mo., a graduate student guard on the Angelo State University Rams basketball team, has been named the Non-Division I All-Texas Defensive Player of the Year and to the All-Texas Defensive Team by Dave Campbell's Texas Basketball for the 2022-23 season. In his first season at ASU, Webb spearheaded the Rams' defense that allowed just 65.5 points per game and forced 15.1 turnovers per game, both ranking fourth in the Lone Star Conference. He also topped the LSC in steals (54) on his way to being named the LSC Defensive Player of the Year and to the LSC All-Defensive Team. He was also named to the D2CCA All-South Central Region second team. Dianela Rodriguez of Mexico City, Mexico, a senior on the Angelo State University Belles tennis team, has been named the Lone Star Conference Women's Player of the Week for Week 8 of the season ending March 26. As the Belles posted home victories wins over Lubbock Christian (6-1) and Midwestern State (6-1), Rodriguez went undefeated in both No. 1 singles and No. 3 doubles. She also notched the match-clinching singles win in both contests and improved her personal winning streak to seven matches. She teamed with freshman Letizia Corsini to win the doubles matches. Sawyer Lloyd of Wall, a junior guard on the Angelo State University Belles basketball team, has been selected for the Non-Division I All-Texas Women's Basketball Team (first team) and the All-Texas Defensive Team by Dave Campbell's Texas Basketball for the 2022-23 season. As she helped lead the Belles to the Lone Star Conference Tournament title, Lloyd posted career highs of 15.5 points and 8.1 rebounds per game while also topping the LSC in assists (163) and steals (92). She also became the Belles' all-time assists leader and was named the LSC Defensive Player of the Year and Academic Player of the Year. Kade Bragg of Ennis, a junior on the Angelo State University Rams baseball team, has been named the Lone Star Conference Pitcher of the Week for Week 8 of the season ending March 26. This marks the second straight week he has won the award. On the road against Lubbock Christian on March 25, Bragg tossed a one-hit shutout with eight strikeouts to lead the Rams to a 5-0 victory. He allowed just a first-inning single and one walk over the seven innings. He is now 8-0 this season, leads the LSC in wins and hits allowed (18), is second in strikeouts (64) and has allowed just two earned runs in 48.2 innings. Shiean Walters of Coleman, a junior on the Angelo State University Rambelles track and field team, has been named the Lone Star Conference Women's Indoor Track Athlete of the Year for the 2023 season. An exercise science major, Walters won the LSC title in the 400 meters and ran a leg on the Belles' LSC champion 4x400-meter relay team. She was also the national runner-up in the 400 meters and a member of the runner-up 4x400-meter relay team that posted two of the top three times in NCAA Division II history. Her many accolades for the indoor season include making the All-LSC first team, LSC All-Academic Team, USTFCCCA All-South Central Region Team, and NCAA All-America first team. Maria Sierra Sanz of Gijon, Asturias, Spain, a senior on the Angelo State University Rambelles golf team, has been named the Lone Star Conference Women's Golfer of the Week for Week 15 of the 2022-23 season ending March 21. At the King Alfred Spring Invitational at Eagle's Bluff Country Club in Bullard, Sierra Sanz captured her second individual tournament victory of the season. She carded a 1-over-par 72-72-70 to win by three strokes. Her 37 pars were the most in the 40-player field as she also led the Rambelles to the overall team title, besting St. Mary's on a tiebreaker. A freshman kinesiology major, El Bouchayby won the NCAA Division II national championship in the 800 meters and set a new national record with his time of 1:46.78. He also anchored the Rams' 4x400-meter relay team to a fifth place national finish. At the LSC Indoor Championships, he won the 800 meters and placed second in the mile. His many accolades for the indoor season include being named to the All-LSC first team, USTFCCCA All-South Central Region, and to the NCAA D-II All-America first team. El Bouchaybe is also excelling in the outdoor season. He has been named the USTFCCCA National Athlete of the Week after winning the 800 meters at the Masked Rider Open in Lubbock. Two members of the Angelo State University Rambelles track and field team have swept the Lone Star Conference Women's Track and Field Athlete of the Week honors for Week 1 of the outdoor season ending March 19. Junior middle-distance runner Shadae Findley of Manchester, Jamaica, was named the LSC Women's Track Athlete of the Week, and junior multi-event athlete Maricia Spence of Christiana, Jamaica, was named the LSC Women's Field Athlete of the Week. At the Wes Kittley Invitational in Abilene last weekend, Findley won the 800 meters with a time of 2:13.96, the fastest time in the LSC this season and sixth-fastest in all of NCAA Division II. Spence won the javelin throw with a personal-best mark of 132-3 (40.30 meters) and also helped the ASU 4x100-meter relay team finish first with a time of 46.75. Kade Bragg of Ennis, a junior pitcher on the Angelo State University Rams baseball team, has been named the Lone Star Conference Pitcher of the Week for his performance during Week 7 of the season ending March 19. Following the No. 3 Rams' loss in Game 1 of their home series against St. Mary's, the lefty Bragg tossed a gem in Game 2 to lead the Rams to a 6-1 victory. He threw a complete game with seven strikeouts, scattering four hits and allowing only one unearned run. He improved his record to 7-0 with a 0.43 ERA, which both rank first in the LSC. For the season, opposing batters are hitting just .121 against Bragg, and he is tied for first in NCAA Division II in wins and is second in ERA. His 56 strikeouts in 41.2 innings ranks ninth in D-II. Kevon Godwin of Blountstown, Fla., a junior guard on the Angelo State University Rams basketball team, has been named to the All-South Central Region second team by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC). After redshirting due to injury last season, Godwin returned with a vengeance in 2022-23, ranking third in Lone Star Conference scoring at 16.9 points per game. He also led the LSC in three-point shooting percentage (40%) and ranked sixth in minutes (1,023) and ninth in shooting percentage (45.7) on his way to being selected to the All-LSC first team. He helped lead the Rams to a 26-7 overall record, including 19-3 in LSC play, a trip to the LSC Tournament final and their first NCAA postseason appearance since 2016. Sawyer Lloyd of Wall, a junior guard on the Angelo State University Belles basketball team has earned All-America honorable mention from the Women's Basketball Coaching Association (WBCA) for her performance during the 2022-23 season. In leading the Belles to Lone Star Conference West Division and LSC Tournament titles, Lloyd posted career-highs of 15.5 points and 8.1 rebounds per game. She notched nine double-doubles and her first career triple-double, while also dishing out 163 assists to become the Belles' all-time assists leader. She also surpassed 1,000 career points and now sits 10th on the ASU all-time scoring list with 1,274 points. Angelo State University Rams baseball players Jacob Guerrero of Colleyville and Aaron Munson of San Antonio have been named the Lone Star Conference Players of the Week for Week 6 of the 2023 season ending on March 12. Guerrero, a senior outfielder, was named the LSC Hitter of the Week after posting a .643 batting average with a home run and two doubles in the Rams' four-game sweep of Oklahoma Christian on the road. He also posted 10 runs scored, three RBI and two stolen bases, adding two walks and being hit by a pitch four times. He currently leads all of NCAA Division II in on-base percentage (.628). Munson, a junior pitcher, allowed only four hits and struck out 13 in seven innings to win Game 1 of the Rams' road series at Oklahoma Christian. He improved to 4-0 for the season with a 1.46 ERA. He ranks first in the LSC in innings pitched (37), is second in wins (4), ERA (1.46) and strikeouts (50), and is third in opposing batting average (.173). Angelo State University undergraduate science majors Garath Vetters of Kingsland, Emily Maxey of Heber, Arizona, and Doyeon Kwon of South Korea all won top prizes for their research presentations at the recent annual meeting of the Texas Academy of Science hosted on the ASU campus. Vetters, a physics major, won first place in the Physics and Engineering Poster Contest for his presentation of his research project, "Constructing and Testing a Large-Scale Diffusion Cloud Chamber." Maxey, also a physics major, won first place in the Physics and Engineering Oral Presentation Contest for her presentation on her research project titled "Dipole Transition Calculations Between Hydrogen Quantum States." Kwon, a chemistry major, took second place in the Chemistry and Biochemistry Poster Contest for her presentation of her research project titled "Identification of Affibody Molecules that Target Phospholipase A2." Eleven members of the Angelo State University Rams and Rambelles track and field teams achieved All-America status for their performances at the NCAA Division II Indoor National Championships March 10-11 in Virginia Beach, Va. As the No. 13 Rams placed ninth in the team standings, freshman oussama El Bouchayby of Marrakech, Morocco, won the national championship in the 800 meters, setting a new NCAA D-II national record (1:46.78). In the heptathlon, junior Elvis Kryukov of Limassol, Cyprus, (5th), senior Simon Rey of Port, France, (6th), and junior Kyle Lumpkins of Junction (7th) all claimed first-team All-America honors. The Rams' 4x400-meter relay team - grad student Emmett Seals Jr. of Rowlett, sophomore Bossman Pinkrah of Accra, Ghana, junior Prince Frimpong of Kumasi, Ghana, and El Bouchayby - earned All-American first-team honors with their fifth-place finish. The No. 7 Rambelles placed 10th in the team standings. Earning first-team All-America honors were junior Shiean Walters of Coleman (2nd, 400 meters), junior Maricia Spence of Christiana, Jamaica, (5th, pentathlon), senior Zykia McDaniel of Converse (7th, 400 meters) and the 4x400-meter relay of Walters, Spence, McDaniel and Shadae Findlay of Manchester, Jamaica, (2nd), who set a new ASU record in the event. Topping the Rams' honors is junior Elvis Kryukov of Limassol, Cyprus, who was named the LSC Outstanding Male Field Athlete after winning the heptathlon, taking second in the 60-meter hurdles, and finishing seventh in the shot put and high jump at the LSC Indoor Championships. He was also named to the All-LSC first team. Highlighting the Rambelles' honors is junior Maricia Spence of Christiana, Jamaica, who was named the LSC Outstanding Female Field Athlete after winning both the pentathlon and the long jump, finishing second in the 60-meter hurdles, and finishing fourth in the shot put at the LSC Indoor Championships. She was also named to the All-LSC first team and the LSC All-Academic Team. Overall, the Rams had two athletes named to the All-LSC first team, two to the second team, and one to the all-academic team. The Rambelles had five athletes named to the first team, four to the second team, two to the third team and two to the all-academic team. It's the first all-region selection for both players, and both were named to the all-region second team. Godwin, a junior guard, was also named to the All-Lone Star Conference first team afte rleading the Rams in scoring and 3-point shooting. He also leads the LSC in 3-point shooting (40%) and ranks third in points per game (16.9), sixth in minutes (1,023) and ninth in field goal percentage (45.7%). Webb, a grad student guard, was also named the LSC Defensive Player of the Year. He led the ASU defense that ranks fourth in the LSC, allowing just 65.5 points and forcing 15.1 turnovers per game. He also leads the LSC in steals per game (1.8). In his first season at ASU, Webb has won four straight conference Defensive Player of the Year awards, with the first three coming in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Letizia Corsinia of Porto Sant'Elpidio, Italy, a freshman on the Angelo State University Belles tennis team, has been named the Lone Star Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week for Week 5 of the season ending March 5. As the Belles won both matches last week against No. 20 Ouachita Baptist and Texas A&M-Kingsville, Corsini went 2-0 in No. 1 singles and teamed with senior Dianela Rodriguez to go 2-0 in No. 3 doubles. One of her singles wins was a 6-0, 6-0 whitewash in ASU's LSC opener against Texas A&M-Kingsville. She is currently on an 11-match combined winning streak in singles and doubles. Fifteen members of the Angelo State University Rams and Rambelles track and field teams have earned NCAA Division II All-South Central Region honors from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) for their performances during the 2023 indoor season. The top five individuals in the region in each event earned all-region distinction, as well as each member of the region's top three relay teams. It's the first all-region selection for both players, and they were both named to the all-region first team. Lloyd, a junior guard, was also named Lone Star Conference Defensive Player of the Year and Academic Player of the Year, to the All-LSC first team and the All-LSC Tournament Team. She ranks first in the LSC in minutes per game (36.5), steals per game (2.8) and assist/turnover ratio (2.2), second in assists per game (4.7), fifth in points per game (15.6) and seventh in rebounds per game (8.0). McGhee-Pleasant, a junior forward, leads the Belles in scoring and rebounding, and she was also selected to the All-LSC first team. She posted a team-high 11 double-doubles during the regular season, and she ranks third in rebounds per game (8.8) fourth in points per game (16.0) and sixth in field-goal percentage (.438). Four players on the Angelo State University Rams basketball team have earned Lone Star Conference postseason awards after helping lead ASU to a 23-5 record and runner-up finish in the LSC West Division. Guard Stephen Webb, a graduate student from St. Louis, Missouri, was named the LSC Defensive Player of the Year and to the LSC All-Defensive Team in his first season at ASU. He led the LSC in steals per game (1.8) and finished second in total steals (49) while leading the Rams defense that allowed just 66.6 points per game and forced 15.3 turnovers per game. He also chipped in 5.0 points and 3.7 rebounds per game. This is Webb's fourth Defensive Player of the Year honor after earning his previous three awards in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Junior guard Kevon Godwin of Blountstown, Fla., was named to the All-LSC first team. He led the Rams and was third in the LSC in points per game (17.8). He also led the LSC in 3-point shooting (40.8%). Senior forward Fredelin De La Cruz of El Seibo, Dominican Republic, and junior guard Willie Guy of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, were named to the All-LSC second team. De La Cruz averaged 10.6 points and 6.7 rebounds per game while also chipping in 34 steals and 10 blocks. Guy averaged 8.7 points and a team-high 2.9 assists per game while also adding 74 rebounds and 26 steals. She has also been a fixture on the LSC Commissioner's Honor Roll. On the court, Lloyd led the LSC in steals (80) and assist/turnover ration (2.2) while also averaging 15.5 points and 7.7 rebounds per game. She earned six LSC Player of the Week honors during the season (4 defensive, 2 offensive), the most in the conference. Sophomore forward Madeline Stephens of Lubbock was named to the All-LSC second team after averaging 13.6 points and 7.8 rebounds per game. Freshman guard Landry Morrow of Ackerly was named to the LSC All-Freshman Team after averaging 20.4 minutes, 4.3 points and 2.4 rebounds per game, while also notching 67 rebounds and 66 assists. Ashlyn Lerma of Highland Village, a senior infielder on the Angelo State University Rambelles softball team, has been named the Lone Star Conference Hitter of the Week for Week 4 of the season ending Feb. 26. In a week that saw the Rambelles claim series wins over UT Permian Basin and No. 2 UT Tyler, Lerma hit .462 over the six games, with half her six hits going for extra bases. She also added seven walks, eight stolen bases and four runs scored. Over ASU's 20 games so far this season, she is batting .453 with a .603 on-base percentage, leads the LSC with 20 walks and leads all of NCAA Division II with 28 stolen bases. Tayjanna McGhee-Pleasant of Amarillo, a junior forward on the Angelo State University Belles basketball team, has been named the Lone Star Conference Women's Defensive Player of the Week for 16 of the season ending Feb. 26. This is her third LSC Player of the Week honor this season. In the Belles' lone game last week, McGhee-Pleasant pulled down 10 rebounds (nine defensive) and had three blocks in a 71-55 victory over UT Permian Basin that clinched a share of the LSC West Division title for ASU. She set the tone as the Belles held the Falcons to just 27.9% shooting, and she completed a double-double by also chipping in with 14 points. Already the Lone Star Conference title holder in the event this season, Elbouchayby set the new record by posting a time of 1:47.11, breaking the old record of 1:47.34 set in 2012. Jordan Williams of Georgetown, an infielder on the Angelo State University Rams baseball team, has been named the Lone Star Conference Hitter of the Week for Week 3 of the season ending Feb. 19. As the Rams won three out of four games at home against UT Permian Basin, Williams batted .533 with eight hits in 15 at bats, including a double and two home runs, and collected three walks, seven RBI and six runs scored. Along the way, he also broke ASU's career hits record. He now has 250 hits, breaking the record previously held by his former teammate Nick Novak (2017-21). A graduate student in his fifth season with the Rams, Williams is hitting .390 through ASU first 12 games with a team-high four home runs, .732 slugging percentage and 18 runs scored. The Angelo State University Rambelles 4x400-meter relay team has been named the National Athlete of the Week by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association for the week ending Feb. 19. This marks just the second time in the history of the award that a relay team has won. At the Lone Star Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships in Lubbock, the ASU relay team of Shiean Walters of Coleman, Zykia McDanial of Converse, Maricia Spence of Christiana, Jamaica, and Shadae Findley of Manchester, Jamaica, won the LSC title and set a new NCAA Division II record with their time of 3:38.38. That topped the previous record of 3:39.24 set by Lincoln University in 1997. In addition to their relay title, Spence won LSC titles in the pentathlon and long jump, and Walter won the LSC title in the 400 meters, setting a new LSC record with her time of 53.25. Jordan Williams of Georgetown, a graduate student infielder on the Angelo State University Rams baseball team, set a new ASU career record for hits during the Rams' home series against UT Permian Basin Feb. 17-19 at Foster Field at 1st Community Credit Union Stadium. As the Rams won three of four games over the Falcons, Williams collected a total of eight hits and now has 250 for his ASU career, breaking the previous career hits record held by Nick Novak (2017-21). Now in his fifth season with the Rams, Williams has collected a host of awards, including Lone Star Conference Freshman of the Year, multiple All-LSC and LSC All-Defensive Team selections, and one All-America honor. In 2021 he became just the second Rams player to play all nine positions in a single game. In ASU's 12 games so far this season, Williams is batting .390 with a team-high 4 home runs and .732 slugging percentage, and he is tied for second on the team with 14 RBI.

The Angelo State University Rambelles track and field team finished second at the 2023 Lone Star Conference Indoor Championships in Lubbock with Maricia Spence of Christiana, Jamaica, Shiean Walters of Coleman and the 4x400-meter relay team all claiming LSC titles for ASU. Spence, a junior multi-event athlete, won her second straight LSC title in the pentathlon with 3,862 points. She also took first place in the long jump with a mark of 6.04 meters (19'-9.75"), and she finished second in the 60-meter hurdles. Walters, a junior sprinter, won the LSC title in the 400 meters and set a new LSC record with her time of 52.25. Walters and Spence, along with junior Zykia McDaniel of Converse and junior Shadae Findley of Manchester, Jamaica, made up ASU's 4x400-meter relay team that set a new NCAA Division II record of 3:38.38 to claim the LSC title. Findley also finished second in the 800 meters. The Rambelles will continue their season at the NCAA D-II Indoor Track & Field Championship March 10-11 in Virginia Beach, Va.
