Angelo State's Kryukov Named LSC Outdoor Field Athlete of the Year

Elvis Kryukov of Limassol, Cyprus, a multi-event athlete on the Angelo State University Rams track and field team, has been named the Lone Star Conference's Co-Male Field Athlete of the Year for the 2022 outdoor season. The sophomore All-American won the national title in the decathlon with 7,574 points at the NCAA Division II Outdoor National Championships. He took first place in the discus and shot put events on his way to claiming the title by 214 points. He also scored 15 points at the LSC Outdoor Championships, including a second-place finish in the 110-meter hurdles. See more details on the LSC website.

Angelo State Softball Players Named CoSIDA Academic All-Americans

Ashlyn Lerma of Highland Village and Paxton Scheurer of Mansfield, both infielders on the Angelo State University Rambelles softball team, have earned 2022 Academic All-America honors from the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) organization for their performances in the classroom and on the field. Lerma, a junior second baseman, is majoring in finance and carrying a 3.94 grade point average (GPA). From the leadoff spot, she hit .349 with a team-high 38 walks and 50 stolen bases. She was also named to the All-Lone Star Conference first team and LSC All-Academic Team, and she earned multiple all-region and academic all-region honors. Scheurer, the Rambelles' third baseman, is a junior athletically and a graduate student academically. She is studying for her master's degree in industrial/organizational psychology and carrying a perfect 4.0 GPA. She hit 23 home runs and drove in 72 runs on her way to LSC Player of the Year and LSC Academic Player of the Year awards, as well as multiple all-region, academic all-region and All-America honors. Angelo State's Hardy Earns Elite 90 Award for NCAA D-II Baseball Championship

Jackson Hardy of Silsbee, a junior outfielder on the Angelo State University Rams baseball team, received the Elite 90 Award for the NCAA Division II Baseball Championship during the championship banquet on June 2 in Cary, N.C. The Elite 90 Award is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade point average (GPA) who is participating at the finals site for each of the NCAA's national championships. Hardy is majoring in business administration and is carrying a perfect 4.0 GPA. For his performance on the field, he was named to the Lone Star Conference All-Defensive Team and LSC All-Academic Team. He helped lead the Rams to LSC regular-season, LSC Tournament and South Central Regional titles as they qualified for the NCAA D-II Baseball Championship for the second straight season. ASU Baseball Players Named ABCA/Rawlings All-Americans

Angelo State University Rams baseball players Justin Lee of Las Vegas, Nev., Aaron Walters of Center Point and Austin Beck of Allen have earned 2022 NCAA Division II All-America honors from the American Baseball Coaches Association sponsored by Rawlings (ABCA/Rawlings). Lee, a senior outfielder, was named to the All-America first team. Walters, a senior first baseman, and Beck, a freshman infielder, were named to the All-America third team. It is the third All-America designation for Lee and Walters, and the second for Beck. All three were named All-Americans by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Assocation (NCBWA), while Lee and Walters earned All-America honors from the NCAA D-II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA). Beck was named Lone Star Conference Freshman of the Year and joined Lee and Walters on the All-LSC first team. All three of them earned All-South Central Region honors from the NCBWA, D2CCA and ABCA/Rawlings. They helped lead the Rams to LSC regular-season, LSC Tournament and South Central Regional titles as they qualified for the NCAA D-II College World Series for the second straight year. Angelo State's Lee & Walters Earn Second Baseball All-America Nods

Angelo State University Rams baseball players Justin Lee of Las Vegas, Nev., and Aaron Walters of Center Point have earned 2022 NCAA Division II All-America honors from the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA). Lee, a senior outfielder, was named to the All-America first team. Walters, a senior first baseman, earned All-America honorable mention. It is the second All-America designation for both players this season, as they received identical recognition from the NCAA Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA). Both players were also named to the All-Lone Star Conference first team, and both earned All-South Central Region honors from the NCBWA, D2CCA and America Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA/Rawlings). Lee and Walters helped lead the Rams to LSC regular-season, LSC Tournament and South Central Regional titles as they qualified for the NCAA D-II College World Series for the second straight year. Angelo State's Kryukov Wins Decathlon National Title

Elvis Kryukov of Limassol, Cyprus, a sophomore on the Angelo State University Rams track and field team, won the national title in the decathlon at the 2022 NCAA Division II Outdoor National Championships in Allendale, Michigan. On his way to the title, Kryukov set a new personal best with 7,574 points, taking first place in five of the individual events: discus, high jump, pole vault, shot put and 110-meter hurdles. He was also named a first-team All-American. For the outdoor season, Kryukov also earned first-team All-Lone Star Conference honors after scoring 15 points at the LSC Championships. Angelo State Baseball Players Named ABCA/Rawlings All-Region

Five players from the Angelo State University Rams baseball team have been named to the ABCA/Rawlings 2022 All-South Central Region teams by the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA). Freshman infielder Austin Beck of Allen, senior pitcher Ben Elder of Chico, Calif., senior outfielder Justin Lee of Las Vegas, Nev., and senior first baseman Aaron Walters of Center Point were named to the all-region first team. Sophomore pitcher Aaron Munson of San Antonio was named to the all-region second team. The Rams won the Lone Star Conference regular-season title, LSC Tournament and South Central Regional to book their tickets to the NCAA D-II College World Series for the second straight year. Angelo State's Scheurer Named D2CCA Softball All-American

Paxton Scheurer of Mansfield, the third baseman for the Angelo State University Rambelles softball team, has been named to the 2022 NCAA Division II All-America second team by the Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA). This marks Scheurer's second All-America designation this week as she was also named to the NCAA D-II All-America first team by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA). Additionally, she was previously named the Lone Star Conference Player of the Year and Academic Player of the Year, the D2CCA South Central Region Player of the Year, and to the NFCA All-South Central Region Team and CoSIDA Academic All-District 6 Team. Scheurer played all 51 games for the Rambelles this season and led the team in batting average (.370), home runs (23) and RBI (72). Three players on the Angelo State University Rams baseball team have earned 2022 NCAA Division II All-America honors from the Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA). Senior outfielder Justin Lee of Las Vegas, Nev., was named to the All-America first team. Freshman infielder Austin Beck of Allen was named to the All-America second team, and senior first baseman Aaron Walters of Center Point earned All-America honorable mention. ASU has the most players on the D2CCA All-America teams of any school in the South Central Region. Lee, Beck and Walters were also named to the All-Lone Star Conference first team, and Beck was named LSC Freshman of the Year. Angelo State Announces Spring 2022 Dean's List

Angelo State University in San Angelo, Texas, has announced the students achieving the Dean's List designation for the 2022 spring semester. To be eligible for the ASU Dean's List, full-time undergraduate students must maintain at least a 3.25 grade point average (GPA) on a 4.0 scale. Angelo State University conferred 880 undergraduate and graduate degrees on 873 graduates during the 2022 spring commencement exercises on May 13-14, 2022, at the Junell Center/Stephens Arena in San Angelo, Texas. Angelo State's Scheurer Named NFCA Softball All-American

Paxton Scheurer of Mansfield, the third baseman for the Angelo State University Rambelles softball team, has been named to the 2022 NCAA Division II All-America first team by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA). A junior psychology major, Scheurer started all 51 games for the Rambelles and led the team in batting average (.370), hits (61), home runs (23), slugging percentage (.842) and RBI (72) - ranking second in NCAA D-II in home runs and third in RBI. Her home run and RBI totals are also second and third all-time for a single season in team history. Scheurer was also named Lone Star Conference Player of the Year, LSC Academic Player of the Year and D2CCA South Central Region Player of the Year - and she was named to the NFCA All-South Central Region first team and to the CoSIDA Academic All-District 6 Team. Angelo State Baseball Players Named D2CCA All-Region

Five players on the Angelo State University Rams baseball team have earned 2022 All-South Central Region honors from the Division II Conference Commissioner's Association (D2CCA). Senior pitcher Jake Rogers of Las Vegas, Nev., was named to the all-region second team. All five were also named to the All-Lone Star Conference first team, and Beck was named LSC Freshman of the Year. All-region first team selections will advance to the D2CCA All-American Ballot to be voted on later this month. The Rams won the LSC regular-season title and the LSC Tournament. Senior first baseman Aaron Walters of Center Point, senior pitcher Ben Elder of Chico, Calif., and senior outfielder Justin Lee of Las Vegas, Nev., were named to the All-South Central Region first team. Freshman second baseman Austin Beck of Allen and senior pitcher Jake Rogers of Las Vegas, Nev., were named to the all-region second team. All five were also named to the All-Lone Star Conference first team and to the D2CCA All-South Central Region teams. Angelo State's Ovcina Named CoSIDA Academic All-District

Ena Ovcina of Tidaholm, Sweden, a graduate student on the Angelo State University Belles tennis team, has been named to the 2021-22 NCAA Division II Academic All-District Women's At-Large Team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). The Academic All-District Team recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performance in athletic competition and in the classroom. Ovcina is the only tennis athlete on the District 6 first team. She is studying for her Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree and is carrying a perfect 4.0 GPA. On the court, Ovcina was named to the All-Lone Star Conference first team for doubles, and she and her partner, Valentina Gonzalez, are the reigning ITA South Central Region doubles champions. She was also named LSC Academic Player of the Year. By being named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District first team, Ovcina is eligible for the Academic All-America Team that will be announced in June. Angelo State Baseball Players Named to All-LSC Tournament Team

Seven players on the Angelo State University Rams baseball team were named to the All-Lone Star Conference Tournament Team after the Rams claimed the LSC Tournament title on May 14. Freshman second baseman Austin Beck of Allen was named MVP of the tournament. He is joined on the all-tournament team by pitchers Ben Elder of Chico, Calif., and Aaron Munson of San Antonio; outfielders Koby Kelton of Austin and Justin Lee of Las Vegas, Nev.; shortstop Justin Harris of The Woodlands; and catcher Richard "Tripp" Clark of Waco. The Rams swept through the LSC Tournament, winning three straight games, including two in a row over arch-rival West Texas A&M. Angelo State Track & Field Athletes Named Academic All-LSC

Three members of the Angelo State University Rambelles track and field team have been named to the Lone Star Conference All-Academic Team for the 2022 outdoor season. Antonija Radic of Knin, Croatia, Sara Ramos of Uvalde and Mia van Oudtshoorn of Kroonstad, South Africa, were all named to the LSC Women's All-Academic Team. Radic and Ramos are graduate students majoring in coaching, sport. recreation and fitness administration. Van Oudtshoorn just graduated from ASU on May 14 with a bachelor's degree in chemistry and earned the ASU Distinguished Student Award for the College of Science and Engineering. To be eligible for LSC academic honors, student-athletes must carry at least a 3.30 grade point average and have reached sophomore status both athletically and academically. The honorees are selected from the list of academically qualified players, with the league's sports information directors voting based on both academic and athletic achievement. Angelo State's Radic & Spence Named LSC Track & Field Athletes of the Year

Antonija Radic of Knin, Croatia, and Maricia Spence of Christiana, Jamaica, both members of the Angelo State University Rambelles track and field team, have been named Lone Star Conference Track and Field Athletes of the Year for the 2022 outdoor season. Radic, a graduate student, won the high jump and long jump at the LSC Outdoor Championships to be named the LSC Outstanding Female Field Athlete of the Year. Spence won the heptathlon and the 100-meter hurdles to be named the LSC Outstanding Female Track Athlete of the Year. Between the two of them, they scored 68.5 points at the championship meet to help lead the Rambelles to a second-place finish with 194 points. Angelo State Rams Track & Field Athletes Earn All-Conference Honors

Eighteen members of the Angelo State University Rams track and field team have earned All-Lone Star Conference accolades for their performances at the 2022 LSC Outdoor Track and Field Championships, where the Rams finished third overall. Rams making the All-LSC first team are Victor Ertelt of San Angelo (winner-javelin), Jacobee Jones of Rowlett (winner-pole vault) and Elvis Kryukov of Limassol, Cyprus, (javelin, 110-meter hurdles). Rams All-LSC second teamers include Kyle Lumpkins of Junction (decathlon, 400-meter hurdles), Nicholas Ellisor of Coldspring (400 meters), Luis Alvarado of Laredo (javelin), Canon Andrews of Iraan (hammer), William Cole Paxton of Brackettville (shot put), Marshall Creed Goode of Cross Plains (decathlon), Emmett Seals of Rowlett (400 meters), Thomas David Morgan of Lubbock (100 meters), Braden Jetton of Brownwood (4x100 relay) and Ja'Micah Polk of Corsicana (4x100 relay). Making the All-LSC third team for ASU are Romel Plummer of Kingston, Jamaica, (400-meter hurdles), James Cason Brown of Schulenburg (discus), Joshua Body of Abilene (triple jump), Bossman Pinkrah of Accra, Ghana, (4x400 relay) and Jonathan Ramirez of Andrews (4x400 relay). Angelo State Softball Players Named Academic All-District

She also earned a LSC Golden Glove Award for her play on defense. Scheurer, a junior third baseman, is majoring in industrial/organizational psychology and carrying a 3.77 GPA. She has also been named LSC Player of the Year and Academic Player of the Year, and D2CCA South Central Region Player of the Year. She was also named to the NFCA All-South Central Region first team and has made the Schutt Sports/NFCA Division II Player and Pitcher of the Year Top 25 list. Angelo State Belles Outdoor Track & Field Athletes Earn All-LSC Honors

Thirteen members of the Angelo State University Rambelles track and field team have earned All-Lone Star Conference accolades for their performances at the 2022 LSC Outdoor Track and Field Championships, where the Belles finished second. Belles making the All-LSC first team are Maricia Spence of Christiana, Jamaica, (winner - heptathlon & 100-meter hurdles), Antonija Radic of Knin, Croatia, (winner - high jump & long jump) and Chloe "Abby" Zamzow of Bowie (heptathlon). Named to the All-LSC second team are Mia van Oudtshoorn of Kroonstad, South Africa, (shot put), Alana Holloway of Spearman (100-meter hurdles, 400-meter hurdles), Shiean Walters of Coleman (400 meters), Hannah Porter of Austin (100-meters), Zykia McDaniel of Converse (400 meters), Alyssa Mahone of Strawn (relays), Sara Ramos of Uvalde (hammer) and Genevie Rivera of San Antonio (relays). Belles named to the All-LSC third team are Jennifer Batu of San Angelo (relays) and Talena Murray of Carnbee, Trinidad and Tobago, (relays). Angelo State's Hardy Makes LSC Baseball All-Academic Team

Jackson Hardy of Silsbee, a senior outfielder on the Angelo State University Rams baseball team, has been named to the 2022 Lone Star Conference All-Academic Team for his performances on the field and in the classroom. The All-Academic Team is selected by the LSC's sports information directors, who select players based on both athletic and academic achievement. To be eligible, student-athletes must have played in at least 50% of the team's contests, reached sophomore athletic and academic standing, completed at least one full academic year at the nominating institution and have a minimum 3.30 cumulative grade point average for their entire collegiate career. Hardy is majoring in business administration at ASU, and he makes the LSC All-Academic Team for the second straight year. He was also named to the LSC All-Defensive Team after posting a .991 fielding percentage in center field and committing just one error all season. The Rams won the LSC regular-season title and are currently ranked No. 1 in the South Central Region as they host the finals of the LSC Tournament this weekend. Angelo State's Beck Named LSC Baseball Freshman of the Year

Austin Beck of Allen, a freshman infielder on the Angelo State University Rams baseball team, has been named the 2022 Lone Star Conference Freshman of the Year for his performance during the regular season. In his first season, Beck solidifed himself as the Rams' starting second baseman and lead-off hitter. He finished third in the LSC in batting average (.401), second in runs scored (69), third in walks (34), tied for fifth in hits (75) and on-base percentage (.502) and first in stolen bases (27). He also notched four home runs and 49 RBIs, and he was also named to the All-LSC first team at second base. The Rams won the LSC regular-season title and are currently ranked No. 1 in the South Central Region as they host the finals of the LSC Tournament this weekend. Angelo State Baseball Players Named to LSC All-Defensive Team

Four players on the Angelo State University Rams baseball team have been named to the 2022 Lone Star Conference All-Defensive Team for their performances during the regular season. Senior catcher Tyler Boggs of Grand Junction, Colo., senior first baseman Aaron Walters of Center Point, redshirt-senior third baseman Jordan Williams of Round Rock, and senior outfielder Jackson Hardy of Silsbee were all named to the LSC All-Defensive Team. Williams makes the team for the second straight season. The All-Defensive Team members were selected by a vote of the LSC's head coaches based on defensive performance alone for all nine fielding positions. The Rams lead all of NCAA Division II with a .981 fielding percentage. They won the LSC regular-season title and are hosting the finals of the LSC Tournament this weekend. Angelo State Baseball Players Earn All-Conference Honors

Nine players on the Angelo State University Rams baseball team have earned All-Lone Star Conference accolades for their performances during the 2022 regular season. Senior pitchers Ben Elder of Chico, Calif., and Jake Rogers of Las Vegas, Nev.; senior first baseman Aaron Walters of Center Point; senior outfielder Justin Lee of Las Vegas, Nev.; and freshman infielder Austin Beck of Allen were all named to the All-LSC first team. Beck was also named LSC Freshman of the Year. Senior outfielder Koby Kelton of Austin and sophomore pitcher Aaron Munson of San Antonio were named to the All-LSC second team. Sophomore shortstop Justin Harris of The Woodlands and freshman designated hitter Tayten Tredaway of Newark were named to the All-LSC third team. The Rams finished the regular season 40-10 overall and 38-10 in the LSC to claim the regular-season title. ASU is hosting the LSC Tournament and takes on UT Tyler on Thursday, May 12. Angelo State Softball Players Make All-South Central Region Teams

Three players from the Angelo State University Rambelles softball team have earned multiple 2022 All-South Central Region honors from the Division II Conference Commissioner's Association (D2CCA) and National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA). Junior third baseman Paxton Scheurer of Mansfield was named the D2CCA South Central Region Player of the Year and is an all-region first-team selection by both the D2CCA and NFCA. She is batting .378 with 22 home runs and 70 RBIs, and she has made the Schutt Sports/NFCA Division II Player of the Year Top 25 list. Sophomore pitcher Genesis Armendariz of Hobbs, N.M., was named to the All-South Central Region first team by the NFCA and the all-region second team by the D2CCA. She has posted a 19-5 record with a 2.40 ERA and 120 strikeouts in 134 innings. Junior second baseman Ashlyn Lerma of Highland Village was named to the All-South Central Region second team by both the D2CCA and NFCA. She has posted a .353 batting average and .492 on-base percentage with 35 walks and 46 stolen bases, and she was named to the LSC Golden Glove Team for her outstanding defense. Angelo State 2022 Order of the Sword & Shield Inductees

Angelo State University's chapter of the Order of the Sword & Shield national honor society recently inducted 28 new student members for the 2021-22 academic year. The Order of the Sword & Shield is the only academic and professional honor society dedicated exclusively to cybersecurity, homeland security, intelligence, emergency management and all protective security disciplines. The ASU chapter was chartered in 2015 and is one of only 92 Official Academic Chapters in the U.S., including just five chapters in Texas. To be eligible for induction, students must be majoring in homeland security, intelligence or other protective security field at an accredited institution of higher education, and must have completed at least 50% of the credit hours required for graduation. Undergraduate students must have at least a 3.25 grade point average (GPA), and graduate students must have at least a 3.5 GPA. Angelo State's Scheurer Named LSCSoftball Player and Academic Player of the Year

Paxton Scheurer of Mansfield, the third baseman for the Angelo State University Rambelles softball team, has been named the Lone Star Conference Player of the Year and LSC Academic Player of the Year for the 2022 season. A graduate student, Scheurer is only the third player in LSC softball history to win both awards in the same season. She started every game this season and posted a .379 batting average, 22 home runs and 70 RBI. She is third in NCAA Division II in home runs and RBI. In the classroom, she is working toward her master's degree in industrial/organizational psychology and is carrying a perfect 4.0 GPA. She was also named to the All-LSC first team and the LSC All-Academic Team. Scheurer helped lead the Rambelles to a 38-9 overall record, 22-8 LSC record and current No. 3 ranking in the NCAA D-II South Central Region. ASU begins play in the LSC Tournament on Friday in Tyler. Angelo State Softball Players Earn LSC Golden Glove Awards

Two Angelo State University Rambelles softball players have earned Lone Star Conference Golden Glove Awards for their defensive play during the 2022 regular season. Sophomore cather Keilei Garcia of Hemet, Calif., and junior second baseman Ashlyn Lerma of Highland Village are ASU's 2022 Golden Glove Award winners. Garcia posted a .971 fielding percentage behind the plate, threw out 15 baserunners and allowed only 21 stolen bases all season, the lowest total in the LSC. Lerma won her second straight Golden Glove after posting a .982 fielding percentage at second base. They helped lead the Rambelles to a 38-9 overall record and 22-8 mark in the LSC - and ASU is No. 3 in the latest NCAA Division II South Central Regional Rankings. Angelo State Softball Players Named to LSC All-Academic Team

Two Angelo State University Rambelles softball players have been named to the Lone Star Conference All-Academic Team for their performances in the classroom and on the field during the 2022 regular season. Third baseman Paxton Scheurer, a graduate student from Mansfield, has been named the LSC Softball Academic Player of the Year. She is joined on the LSC All-Academic Team by her teammate, junior second baseman Ashlyn Lerma of Highland Village. Scheurer is working toward her master's degree in industrial/organization psychology and is carrying a 4.0 GPA. She was also named LSC Player of the Year. Lerma has a 3.94 GPA majoring in finance. She makes the All-Academic Team for the second straight year and is also an All-LSC first-team selection. They helped lead the Rambelles to a 38-9 overall record and 22-8 mark in the LSC - and ASU is No. 3 in the latest NCAA Division II South Central Regional Rankings.
