Three members of the Angelo State University Rams basketball team have earned All-Lone Star Conference honors for their performances during the 2021-22 regular season. Junior guard Tyrell Carroll of Omaha, Neb., was named to the All-LSC second team and the LSC All-Defensive Team. Graduate student guard Paul Williams of Southaven, Miss., was selected for the All-LSC second team. Sophomore guard Lathaniel Bastian of Nassau, Bahamas, earned All-LSC honorable mention. Carroll led the Rams in scoring, assists and steals this season, and was tops in the LSC with 2.4 steals per game. Williams was second on the team in points and first in three-point scoring. Five members of the Angelo State University Belles basketball team have earned All-Lone Star Conference honors for their performances during the 2021-22 regular season. Sawyer Lloyd of Wall, a sophomore guard, was named to the All-LSC first team. Junior guard Payton Brown of Lubbock and sophomore forwards Blakely Gerber of Nazareth and Tayjanna McGhee-Pleasant of Amarillo were selected for the All-LSC third team. Brown was also named to the LSC All-Defensive Team. Freshman guard Madeline Stephens of Lubbock earned All-LSC honorable mention. After a bit of a slow start, the Belles finished the regular season 15-12 overall and 12-4 in the LSC. They earned the No. 4 seed for the LSC Tournament. Justin Lee of Las Vegas, Nev., an outfielder on the Angelo State University Rams baseball team, has been named the South-Central Region Hitter of the Week by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) for Week 4 of the season ending Feb. 27. Over the Feb. 25-27 weekend, Lee batted .500 to lead the Rams' offense in a four-game sweep of St. Mary's University in San Antonio. The senior also collected two doubles, a home run and nine RBIs. Justin Lee of Las Vegas, Nev., an outfielder on the Angelo State University Rams baseball team, has been named the Lone Star Conference Hitter of the Week for Week 4 of the season ending Feb. 27. During the Rams' four-game sweep of St. Mary's University in San Antonio, Lee hit .500 with two doubles, a home run and nine RBIs. The senior currently leads the LSC with a .556 batting average. For the fifth straight year, the Angelo State University Cheer Team has won a national title at the United Spirit Association USA Collegiate Championships in Anaheim, Calif. ASU's 32-member co-ed Cheer Team won one national championship and also recorded one runner-up performance, two national third-place finishes and a fifth-place finish in the College Game Day division, including: First Place - College Situational Sideline Contest Second Place - Mascot Contest Third Place - College Fight Song Contest Third Place - College Band Chant Contest Fifth Place - Co-Ed Show Cheer Performance Routine The ASU Cheer Team previously won 2018 and 2019 national championships in the Show Cheer division, as well as 2020 and 2021 national championships in the College Game Day division. Seven members of the Angelo State University Rams and Rambelles track and field teams won individual titles at the Lone Star Conference Indoor Championships Feb. 25-26 in Lubbock. For the Rambelles, Antonija Radic of Knin, Croatia (high jump & long jump); Maricia Spence of Christiana, Jamaica (pentathlon & 60-meter hurdles); and Sara Ramos of Uvalde(weight throw) took first place in their respective events. For the Rams, Canon Andrews of Iraan (weight throw), Jacobee Jones (pole vault) and Emmett Seals (400 meters) of Rowlett, and Elvis Kryukov of Limassol, Cyprus, (heptathlon) won titles in their respective events. Antonija Radic of Knin, Croatia, a jumps athlete on the Angelo State University Rambelles track and field team, has been named the Lone Star Conference Women's Field Athlete of the Week for Week 6 of the indoor track and field season ending Feb. 13. Competing at the Texas Tech Shootout, Radic posted two more provisional qualifying marks for the NCAA Division II Indoor National Championships. She leapt 19-7 (5.97 meters) in the long jump, and improved her previous provisional mark in the triple jump with an effort of 41-11 (12.78 meters). She is now ranked second in the nation in the triple jump and sixth in the long jump. This also marks Radic's second LSC Field Athlete of the Week award this spring. Eva Schwartz of L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, France, a freshman on the Angelo State University Belles tennis team, has been named the Lone Star Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week for Week 2 of the spring season ending Feb. 13. As the Belles went 3-1 in their road matches in Arkansas, Schwartz went 6-1 for the week in combined singles and doubles play. She was 3-0 in singles matches and 3-1 in doubles matches as ASU defeated Ouachita Baptist (7-0), Henderson State (6-1) and Delta State (6-1) after falling narrowly to Mississippi College (3-4) to start the week. Austin Beck of Allen, a freshman infielder on the Angelo State University Rams baseball team, has been named the Lone Star Conference Hitter of the Week for Week 3 of the season ending Feb. 20. As the Rams won three of four home games over Oklahoma Christian University, Beck led the way offensively by picking up eight hits in 12 at-bats for a .667 batting average. He also hit his second home run of the season and collected eight RBI, five runs scored and three stolen bases. He is now batting .500 for the season, which ranks third in the LSC. Madeline Stephens of Lubbock, a freshman forward on the Angelo State University Belles basketball team, has been named the Lone Star Conference Defensive Player of the Week for Week 13 of the season ending on Feb. 13. As the Belles swept home games against Texas A&M-Kingsville and Texas A&M International, Stephens owned the boards. Against the Javelinas, she grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds and added three steals. Then against the Dustdevils, she again had a game-high 11 rebounds to go along with a game-high five steals. For the season, Stephens is averaging 8.9 points and 8 rebounds per game. Paxton Scheurer of Mansfield, an infelder on the Angelo State University Rambelles softball team, has been named the Lone Star Conference Hitter of the Week for Week 1 of the 2022 season ending Feb. 7. The junior third baseman helped lead the Rambelles to a 5-1 record at the season-opening Arkansas Tech Winter Invitational. After collecting just one hit in the first two games, Scheurer exploded for six home runs and 17 RBIs over the next four games. That included 2-HR, 5-RBI performances in wins over No. 16 Southern Arkansas and tournament host Arkansas Tech. She has already exceeded her 2021 season totals for home runs, RBIs and total bases. Elvis Kryukov of Limassol, Cyprus, a multi-event athlete on the Angelo State University Rams track and field team, has been named the Lone Star Conference Field Athlete of the Week for Week 4 of the indoor season ending Jan. 31. Competing as the only Division II athlete in the heptathlon at the Texas Tech Multis meet in Lubbock, Kryukov collected 5,117 points to finish ahead of six Division I athletes and earn a provisional qualifying mark for the NCAA D-II Indoor National Championships. His best result was a second-place finish in the shot put, and he also earned top-10 finishes in the high jump and 60-meter dash. Willis Patrick of Grand Prairie, an offensive lineman on the Angelo State University Rams football team, has been named to the 2021 Don Hansen NCAA Division II All-America Team. The 6-4, 347-pound sophomore anchored one of the top offensive lines in the nation last season as the Rams led the Lone Star Conference is total yards and points per game, and boasted the 11th-best rushing offense in NCAA D-II. This marks the third All-America nod for Patrick, who was also named an All-American by the Associated Press (AP) and the Division 2 Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA). Angelo State University's Ram Powerlifting Club hosted its first-ever home meet sanctioned by U.S.A. Powerlifting, and eight club members earned first-place medals at the inaugural ASU Big Horn Bash on Jan. 22 in the Houston Harte University Center. Sixty lifters from around the state, including high school, college and adult competitors, participated in the meet in various categories of both "equipped" and "raw" contests. Equipped contests allow competitors to wear special clothing, including bench shirts, squat suits and knee wraps, that allow them to lift heavier weights. Antonija Radic of Knin, Croatia, a jumps athlete on the Angelo State University Rambelles track and field team, has been named the Lone Star Conference Women's Field Athlete of the Week for Week 3 of the indoor season ending Jan. 23. Competing at the Rumble in the Jungle meet at Pittsburg State in Kansas, Radic took first place in the high jump and finished second in the triple jump and long jump. Tyrell Carroll of Omaha, Neb., a junior guard on the Angelo State University Rams basketball team, has been named the Lone Star Conference Offensive Player of the Week for Week 10 of the 2021-22 season ending Jan. 23. In helping lead the Rams to a 2-0 record for the week, Carroll averaged 19.5 points per game as the Rams beat No. 8 West Texas A&M, 83-79, and Cameron University, 89-83. The win over West Texas A&M snapped the Rams' 12-game losing streak to the Buffaloes. For the week, Carroll shot 60% from the field, including 9-of-16 from 3-point range, to total 39 points to go along with seven rebounds the four assists. Carson Childers of Round Rock, a redshirt-junior pitcher on the Angelo State University Rams baseball team, has been named the Lone Star Conference Preseason Pitcher of the Year heading into the 2022 season. Last season, Childers was one of the top relief pitchers in all of NCAA Division II and played a key role in ASU's run to the D-II College World Series. He posted a 9-0 record in 28 appearances, with 27 of them from the bullpen. He led the LSC in ERA (2.06), earned runs allowed (13), opponent batting average (.179) and home runs allowed (1). Aaron Walters of Center Point, a first baseman on the Angelo State University Rams baseball team, has been named the Lone Star Conference Preseason Player of the Year heading into the 2022 season. During his junior season in 2021, Walters was an integral part of ASU's run to the NCAA D-II College World Series. He led the LSC in RBI (67) and was second in batting average (.410), hits (77) and doubles (17). He also tied for second on the Rams with nine home runs. Alexis Washington of Porter, a freshman mathematics major at Angelo State University, won the Grand Prize in the inaugural Math4 Manufacturing student video contest conducted by the University of Texas Charles A. Dana Center. To compete in the contest, undergraduate students from colleges and universities around the state submitted short videos of themselves conducting a virtual interview with at least one manufacturing professional, concentrating on how they use mathematics in their work. Washington's interview subject was Lindsay Barnes, an executive at Wendland Manufacturing Corp. in San Angelo. For winning the Grand Prize, Washington has been awarded $5,000. Angelo State University in San Angelo, Texas, has announced the students achieving the Dean's List designation for the 2021 fall semester. To be eligible for the ASU Dean's List, full-time undergraduate students must maintain a 3.25 or better grade point average on a 4.0 scale. More than 170 Angelo State University student-athletes have been recognized for their work in the classroom by being named to the Lone Star Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll for the 2021 fall semester. The LSC Commissioner's Honor Roll is announced at the conclusion of each fall and spring semester. To be eligible, student-athletes must have a minimum 3.30 grade point average (GPA) for the current semester and be on the roster of their respective teams. Avery McNeme of Lubbock, a graduate midfielder on the Angelo State University Rambelles soccer team, has earned 2021 All-America honors from United Soccer Coaches (USC) and the Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA). Also the Lone Star Conference Player of the Year and Midfielder of the Year, McNeme has been named to the USC All-America second team and the D2CCA All-America second team. Earlier this month, she was also named to the All-South Central Region first team by both of those organizations. In her final season, McNeme posted eight goals and nine assists to lead the Rambelles to the LSC Championship. She finishes her ASU career with 22 goals and a school-record 34 assists. Three players on the Angelo State University Rambelles soccer team have earned 2021 All-South Central Region honors from the United Soccer Coaches (USC) organization. Graduate midfielder Avery McNeme of Lubbock and junior defender Cassidy Hill of Forney were named to the all-region first team. Senior goalkeeper Kira Miller of Frisco was named to the all-region second team. All three had also previously been named to the D2CCA All-South Central Region first team by the Division II Conference Commissioners Association. McNeme also earned 2021 Lone Star Conference Player of the Year and Midfielder of the Year honors. She finishes her ASU career with 22 goals and 34 assists over 92 matches. Hill is a 2021 All-LSC first team selection. She led the ASU defense that gave up just 0.83 goals per game and posted 12 shutouts in 23 games this season. Three seniors on the Angelo State University Belles volleyball team have earned 2021 All-America status from the American Volleyball Coaches Association. Right side/setter Kailyn Gilbreath of Fort Worth was named a first-team All-American, middle blocker Baleigh Allen of Katy was named to the All-America third team, and middle blocker Sophia Berg of Georgetown earned All-America honorable mention. Gilbreath is now a two-time All-American, as well as the 2021 Lone Star Conference and AVCA South Central Region Player of the Year. She is the first Belles first-team All-American since 2016. Allen was also named the 2021 LSC Defensive Player of the Year and to the AVCA All-South Central Region first team. Berg was also named the LSC Academic Player of the Year, made the CoSIDA Academic All-Region Team and earned AVCA All-South Central Region honorable mention. Two members of Angelo State University's Ram Powerlifting Club brought home medals, including one first-place Gold Medal, from the U.S.A. Powerlifting 2021 Collegiate Cup competition in San Antonio. Competing against lifters from colleges and universities across Texas, ASU's Britney George of Hawley took first place in the 167 pounds Raw Collegiate contest, and Annabelle Butts of Lubbock took third place in the 116 pounds Raw Collegiate contest. Lifters complete three attempts each at squat, bench press and deadlift. The qualifying total is the sum of the highest weight lifted in each of the three disciplines. George and Butts posted the following top weights: Britney George Bench Press - 192 pounds Squat - 358 pounds Deadlift - 385 pounds Annabelle Butts Bench Press - 133 pounds Squat - 187 pounds Deadlift - 275 pounds Unlike intramural teams, ASU club sports teams are registered student organizations that are directed and funded by the Office of Student Life and overseen by the Sports Club Council.

Angelo State University's chapter of the Alpha Chi national honor society recently inducted 59 new members for the fall 2021 semester during a ceremony in the Houston Harte University Center. Alpha Chi is one of the nation's most prestigious honor societies and is open to students majoring in all academic disciplines. To be eligible, students must rank in the top 10% of seniors at their college or university, or in the top 7.5% of juniors. PKP is the nation's oldest and most selective collegiate honor society encompassing all academic disciplines. Six players on the Angelo State University Rams football team have been named to the 2021 D2CCA All-Super Region 4 Team by the Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA). Senior linebacker Hunter Kyle of Wichita Falls, sophomore running back Nathaniel Omayebu III of Sherman, and sophomore offensive tackle Willis Patrick of Grand Prairie earned selection to the all-region first team. Sophomore linebacker Daron Allman of Killeen, senior safety Leddy French II of Brock, and senior defensive tackle G'Karri McCoy of Dallas were named to the all-region second team. The Rams finished the regular season at 9-2 and have now advanced to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division II Playoffs for the first time since 1989.
