Angelo State's McNeme Named LSC Soccer Midfielder of the Year

Avery McNeme of Lubbock, a graduate student on the Angelo State University Rambelles soccer team, has been named the Lone Star Conference Midfielder of the Year for the 2021 fall season. This marks the fourth straight LSC Midfielder of the Year honor for McNeme. She led the Rambelles in scoring with eight goals and nine assists, which both also ranked near the top of the LSC. Overall, she contributed to 41% of the goals the Rambelles scored this season. For her ASU career, she has scored 22 goals and posted 34 assists. Angelo State Soccer Players Earn All-Conference Honors

Five members of the Angelo State University Rambelles soccer team have earned Lone Star Conference postseason honors at the LSC Championship Banquet on Nov. 11. Topping the awards were Avery McNeme of Lubbock being named LSC Midfielder of the Year, and Kira Miller of Frisco being named LSC Goalkeeper of the Year. They were both also named to the All-LSC first team, along with defender Cassidy Hill of Forney. Midfielder Madison Stokes of Amarillo was named to the All-LSC third team, and forward Grace Jordan of Fort Worth was named to the LSC All-Freshman Team. Miller was ASU's lone representative on the LSC All-Academic Team. This marks the fourth straight Midfielder of the Year honor for McNeme, who led the Rambelles in scoring with eight goals and nine assists. In goal, Miller posted 13 wins, 10 shutouts and a conference-leading .709 goals against average. Hill played every minute for ASU this season and led the LSC's stingiest defense that gave up only 14 goals in 19 games. Stokes chipped in one goal and one assist, and was the crucial bridge between ASU's defense and attack. Jordon was second in scoring for ASU with five goals and also chipped in two assists. Angelo State's Patton Again Named LSC Volleyball Player of the Week

Chloe Patton of Gillett, a senior libero on the Angelo State University Belles volleyball team, has been named the Lone Star Conference Defensive Player of the Week for the second straight week and the third time this season. As the Belles went 2-0 in two home matches for the week, Patton was their defensive anchor. She recorded 25 digs in a 3-0 sweep over No. 25 West Texas A&M on Nov. 5 that snapped the Lady Buffs' 12-match winning streak. The following night, she added another 20 digs in a 3-1 win over Eastern New Mexico. She now has 352 digs this season in 82 sets. See more details at angelosports.com and on the LSC website.

Angelo State's Patton Earns LSC Volleyball Player of the Week Honors

Chloe Patton of Gillett, a senior libero on the Angelo State University Belles volleyball team, has been named the Lone Star Conference Defensive Player of the Week for Week 9 of the fall season. In the Belles' two road wins during the week, Patton paced their defensive effort. She recorded 25 digs against UT-Permian Basin on Oct. 28 as the Belles came back after losing the first set. Then on Oct. 30, she added 11 digs in a sweep of Western New Mexico. ASU is now 12-1 on LSC play. This is Patton's second LSC Defensive Player of the Week honor this season. Angelo State's Bronkhorst Named LSC Football Offensive Player of the Week

Zach Bronkhorst of Galveston, quarterback for the Angelo State University Rams football team, has been named the Lone Star Conference Offensive Player of the Week for Week 9 of the fall season. In the Rams' 59-7 road win over Eastern New Mexico on Oct. 30, Bronkhorst completed 11 of 21 passes for 233 yards and two touchdowns with no interceptions. He also ran for two touchdowns as the Rams improved to 7-2. He leads the Rams' offense that is first in the LSC in scoring (35.6 points per game) and total offense (446.3 yards per game) and third in passing yards (219.7 ypg). This is Bronkhorst's second LSC Offensive Player of the Week honor this season, and he is the only player to earn it more than once. See more details at angelosports.com and on the LSC website.

Angelo State's Szabo Named to All-Canadian College Baseball Team

Mat Szabo, a senior pitcher on the Angelo State University Rams baseball team, has been named to the Canadian Baseball Network's 2021 All-Canadian College Team. A native of Sarnia, Ontario, Canada, Szabo split time as a starter and reliever for the Rams during the 2021 season. In 13 appearances, including six starts, he posted a 4-2 record with a 3.20 ERA and 60 strikeouts in 39.1 innings. He also helped lead the Rams to the semifinals of the NCAA Division II College World Series. Szabo was named to the CBN All-Canadian third team as a reliever. Angelo State's Miller Again Named LSC Soccer Goalkeeper of the Week

Kira Miller of Frisco, a senior goalie on the Angelo State University Rambelles soccer team, has been named the Lone Star Conference Goalkeeper of the Week for Week 8 of the fall season. As ASU went 2-0 for the week, Miller posted shutouts in both games, a 1-0 road win over Lubbock Christian University on Oct. 20 and a 2-0 home win over UT Tyler on Oct. 23. She now has nine shutouts in 15 games this season, and she leads the LSC in goals-against average (.583) and shutouts. Angelo State's Villagrand Named LSC Soccer Player of the Week

Gabby Villagrand of Spring, a senior forward on the Angelo State University Rambelles soccer team, has been named the Lone Star Conference Offensive Player of the Week for Week 8 of the fall season. As the Rambelles posted two shutout wins for the week, Villagrand scored two of ASU's three goals. She scored the only goal of the game in a 1-0 road victory over Lubbock Christian University on Oct. 20 - and followed that up on Oct. 23 with the first goal of the game in a 2-0 home win over UT Tyler. She now has three game-winning goals this season, which leads the Rambelles and is tied for second in the LSC. This is Villagrand's first LSC weekly honor this season. Angelo State's Gilbreath Again Named LSC Volleyball Player of the Week

Kailyn Gilbreath of Fort Worth, a senior on the Angelo State University Belles volleyball team, has been named the Lone Star Conference Offensive Player of the Week for Week 8 of the fall season. For the second straight week, Gilbreath averaged a triple-double. On Oct. 22 against Texas A&M-Commerce, she posted her fourth career triple-double with 12 kills, 27 assists and 12 digs in a five-set loss. On Oct. 23 against No. 15 UT-Tyler, she notched 14 kills, 33 assists and nine digs as the Belles handed the Patriots their first loss of the season. This marks the fifth time Gilbreath has won a weekly LSC honor. She has been named Offensive Player of the Week three times, and has twice been named Setter of the Week. Angelo State's Gilbreath Again Named LSC Volleyball Player of the Week

Kailyn Gilbreath of Fort Worth, a senior on the Angelo State University Belles volleyball team, has been named the Lone Star Conference Offensive Player of the Week for Week 7 of the fall season. Averaging a triple-double for the week, Gilbreath helped lead the Belles to road victories over Texas Woman's University on Oct. 15 and Dallas Baptist on Oct. 16. Against TWU, she notched 13 kills, 20 assists and 14 digs. Against DBU, she barely missed another triple-double with 21 kills, 33 assists and 8 digs. She is the only player in the LSC ranked in the top 10 in kills, attack percentage and assists. This also marks the fourth LSC weekly honor of the season for the versatile Gilbreath. Angelo State's Bronkhorst Named LSC Football Offensive Player of the Week

Zach Bronkhorst of Galveston, a junior quarterback on the Angelo State University Rams football team, has been named Lone Star Conference Offensive Player of the Week for Week 7 of the 2021 season. In ASU's Homecoming game on Oct. 16, Bronkhorst tossed two touchdown passes and ran for another TD to lead the Rams to a commanding 34-14 win over UT-Permian Basin. Overall, he completed 17 of 34 passes for 205 yards and the two TDs. He now has 10 touchdown passes this season and is third in the LSC in passing yards per game. The Rams now sit at 5-2 heading into their Family Day home game against Simon Fraser University on Oct. 23. See more details at angelosports.com and on the LSC website.

Angelo State's Miller Named LSC Soccer Goalkeeper of the Week

Kira Miller of Frisco, a goalie on the Angelo State University Rambelles soccer team, has been named the Lone Star Conference Goalkeeper of the Week for Week 7 of the fall season. In a 2-1 victory over No. 19 West Texas A&M on Oct. 13, Miller made three saves, including a crucial finger-tip save of a free kick in the 89th minute. She followed that up on Oct. 16 with two saves in a 2-2 tie with a Texas A&M-Commerce team that had scored 19 goals in its previous five games. Miller has started all 13 games for the 9-2-2 Rambelles, posting seven shutouts and allowing only nine goals. This is her second LSC Goalkeeper of the Week honor this season. Angelo State's Patton Named LSC Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week

Chloe Patton of Gillett, a senior libero on the Angelo State University Belles volleyball team, has been named the Lone Star Conference Defensive Player of the Week for Week 6 of the fall volleyball season. During the Belles' home victory over Lubbock Christian on Oct. 6, Patton recorded 17 digs to help lead ASU to a three-game sweep of the Lady Chaps. The 17 digs were a season high for her in LSC play, and she leads the Belles with an average of 4.16 digs per set. This is her first LSC weekly honor this fall. Angelo State's Woolley Named LSC Volleyball Setter of the Week

Jaedyn Woolley of Amarillo, a freshman on the Angelo State University Belles volleyball team, has been named the Lone Star Conference Setter of the Week for Week 6 of the fall volleyball season. During the Belles' home victory over Lubbock Christian on Oct. 6, Woolley notched 22 assists to lead ASU to a three-game sweep of the Lady Chaps. She averaged a career-high 7.33 assists per set, and is now averaging 4.44 assists per set for the season. She is the first true freshman to claim a LSC weekly award this fall. Angelo State Softball Players Named All-America Scholar-Athletes

Twelve current and former players for the Angelo State University Rambelles softball team have been named 2020-21 Easton/NFCA All-America Scholar-Athletes by the National Fastpitch Softball Coaches Association (NFCA). To qualify, student-athletes must maintain at least a 3.5 grade point average (GPA) for the academic year. As a team, the Rambelles posted a 3.66 GPA, tied for 18th-highest in NCAA Division II. This past spring, the Rambelles went 33-14, reached the final of the Lone Star Conference Tournament and qualified for the NCAA D-II South Central Regional. Angelo State's Allen Named LSC Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week

Baleigh Allen of Katy, a middle blocker on the Angelo State University Belles volleyball team, has been named the Lone Star Conference Defensive Player of the Week for Week 5 of the fall season. As the Belles swept home matches against Texas A&M-Kingsville and Texas A&M International, Allen was exceptional at the net. She recorded eight blocks against TAMUK, helping hold the Javelinas to a season-low .061 attack percentage. Then against A&M-International, she notched four blocks despite playing just two sets. Allen is responsible for over half of the Belles' blocks this season, and she leads the LSC with an average of 1.37 blocks per set. Angelo State's Pitts Named LSC Football Special Teams Player of the Week

Andrew Pitts of McKinney, a defensive back/returner for the Angelo State University Rams football team, has been named the Lone Star Conference Special Teams Player of the Week for Week 5 of the 2021 season. During ASU's commanding 62-3 victory over Western New Mexico on Oct. 2, Pitts continually gave the Rams' offense good field position with his punt returns. He totalled 166 yards on six punt returns for an average of 27.7 yards per return. Included was an 80-yard return that set the Rams up at WNMU's 2-yard line and led to a quick touchdown. Angelo State's Rascoe Named LSC Football Defensive Player of the Week

Eric Rascoe of San Antonio, a linebacker on the Angelo State University Rams football team, has been named the Lone Star Conference Defensive Player of the Week for Week 5 of the season ending Oct. 3. In ASU's resounding 62-3 victory over Western New Mexico, Rascoe led the Rams defense with nine tackles, including seven solo tackles, three tackles for a loss, and one sack. The Rams also held WNMU to only 44 yards rushing and 166 total yards. It was also the second straight week the ASU defense did not allow a touchdown. Angelo State's Quinton Named LSC Football Defensive Player of the Week

Josh Quinton of Lubbock, a linebacker on the Angelo State University Rams football team, has been named the Lone Star Conference Defensive Player of the Week for his performance during the week ending Sept. 26. A senior criminal justice major, Quinton led the ASU defense with nine tackles and an 18-yard sack as the Rams went on their longest road trip of the season and defeated Central Washington University, 14-9. Overall, the Rams held CWU to just 202 total yards and three field goals. Next up for Quinton and the Rams is a home game against Midwestern State on Oct. 2. Angelo State's Gilbreath Named LSC Volleyball Setter of the Week

Kailyn Gilbreath of Fort Worth, a senior on the Angelo State University Belles volleyball team, has been named the Lone Star Conference Setter of the Week for her performances during Week 3 of the season that ended Sept. 19. As the Belles swept home matches against Oklahoma Christian and Arkansas-Fort Smith, Gilbreath posted 21 assists in each match and also added 11 kills against UAFS for her fifth double-double of the season. She leads the Belles in both kills (98) and assists (280), and she sits fifth in the LSC in assists, despite splitting time between setter and the right side. Gilbreath has also won a LSC weekly award every week of the season so far, earning Setter of the Week honors for Weeks 1 and 3, and Offensive Player of the Week for Week 2. Angelo State's Garvin Named LSC Football Offensive Player of the Week

Hagen Garvin of Yoakum, quarterback for the Angelo State University Rams football team, has been named the Lone Star Conference Offensive Player of the Week for his performance during the week ending Oct. 3. In just his second career start for ASU, Garvin tossed four touchdown passes to lead the Rams to a 62-3 victory over Western New Mexico on Oct. 2. Overall, he completed 11 of 16 passes (69%) for 276 yards and the four TDs. He is now 2-0 since taking over as the Rams' starting quarterback. Angelo State's Allen Named LSC Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week

Baleigh Allen of Katy, a middle blocker for the Angelo State University Belles volleyball team, has been named the Lone Star Conference Defensive Player of the Week for Week 2 of the fall season that ended Sept. 12. Playing in the Colorado Premier Tournament in Denver, Allen helped lead the Belles to a 3-1 record, including a three-game sweep of No. 1 ranked Concordia University-St. Paul. Her best statistical matches included two solo blocks and nine block assists against Lynn University, followed later the same day with six block assists in a three-game sweep of Regis University. She was also named to the all-tournament team. Through five matches so far this season, Allen leads the Belles with 33 total blocks and 6 solo blocks. Angelo State's Gilbreath Named LSC Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week

Kailyn Gilbreath of Fort Worth, who splits time at setter and right side for the Angelo State University Belles volleyball team, has been named the Lone Star Conference Offensive Player of the Week for Week 2 of the fall season that ended Sept. 12. Playing in the Colorado Premier Tournament in Denver, Gilbreath helped lead the Belles to a 3-1 record, including a three-game sweep of No. 1 ranked Concordia University-St. Paul. Her stats included double-doubles of assists and kills in matches against Lynn University and No. 17 Wayne State College. Through nine matches this season, she leads the Belles in assists (238) and kills (79). Angelo State's Villagrand Called Up to Panama National Soccer Team

Gabby Villagrand of Spring, a forward on the Angelo State University Rambelles soccer team, has been called up to represent the Panama Women's National Team for friendly matches against Costa Rica on Sept. 18 and 21 in Costa Rica's La Sabana National Stadium. The friendly matches are part of Panama's final preparations for World Cup Qualifying in November. Villagrand has previously made four appearances for Panama, nicknamed Las Canaleras, and scored her first international goal agains the Dominican Republic on July 10 in a 5-0 Panama victory. A senior exercise science major, Villagrand was named Lone Star Conference Forward of the Year for the spring 2021 season, and she was also named a United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-American. Angelo State's McNeme Named LSC Soccer Player of the Week

Avery McNeme of Lubbock, a midfielder on the Angelo State University Rambelles soccer team, has been named the Lone Star Conference Offensive Player of the Week for her performances during the week ending Sept. 12. A graduate student in kinesiology, McNeme was involved in each of the No. 19 Rambelles' five goals as ASU went 2-0 on a road trip to Oklahoma. She recorded a goal and two assists in a 3-1 victory over East Central University, and then notched a goal and an assist in a 2-0 win over Southwestern Oklahoma State. In ASU's four games so far this season, McNeme has figured in seven of the team's 12 goals, posting two goals and five assists. More details are available on the LSC website.

Angelo State's Gilbreath Named LSC Volleyball Setter of the Week

Kailyn Gilbreath of Fort Worth, a senior on the Angelo State University Belles volleyball team, has been named the Lone Star Conference Setter of the Week for the opening week of the 2021 fall season. In her first starts as a full-time setter, Gilbreath averaged 10.5 assists per set as the No. 2 Belles went 4-0 at ASU's Kathleen Brasfield Invitational Tournament to start the season. She also recorded two double-doubles, with 34 assists and 12 digs against East Central University to go with 41 assists and 10 kills against Anderson University. The reigning LSC Player of the Year, Gilbreath was previously named the LSC Preseason Offensive Player of the Year heading into this season. Angelo State's Odom Named LSC Football Offensive Player of the Week

Carl "CJ" Odom of Hemet, Calif., a running back for the Angelo State University Rams football team, has been named the Lone Star Conference Offensive Player of the Week for the first week of the 2021 season. During the Rams' season-opening, 40-20, road victory over Lindenwood University, Odom led the ASU offense with a game-high 127 yards rushing and a touchdown on only 10 carries. Angelo State's Miller Named LSC Soccer Goalkeeper of the Week

Kira Miller of Frisco, a goalie for the Angelo State University Rambelles soccer team, has been named the Lone Star Conference Goalkeeper of the Week for the first week of the 2021 fall season. A senior exercise science major, Miller helped lead the Rambelles to wins over Colorado Christian (5-1) and Colorado State-Pueblo (2-0). She stopped five of the six shots she faced on target over the two games, and posted her 16th career shutout against CSU-Pueblo. Angelo State Students Selected for Prestigious Reading Program

A group of 12 Angelo State University students has been selected by the Free Market Institute at ASU to participate in this semester's McLane Teammates Reading Program. This group meets weekly to discuss selected texts around the theme of "Freedom and Human Flourishing: Poverty, Prosperity and Quality of Life around the World." Students completing the semester-long program qualify for a $1,000 scholarship. Leading this semester's group of scholars is Dr. Edwar Escalante, an instructor of economics in ASU's Norris-Vincent College of Business and research associate for the Texas Tech University System.

Angelo State's Hanna Makes First Solo Flight

Congratulations to Halli Hanna of Wall on her first solo flight! Halli is one of our Commercial Aviation students, and on Aug. 13 she became the first ASU Ram to solo in one of our newly badged DA20 aircraft. Check out the Angelo State logo on the tail!
