Two members of the Angelo State University Rambelles tennis team have been named 2019-20 All-Americans by the International Tennis Association. Valentina Gonzalez of Medellin, Colombia, and Ena Ovcina of Tidaholm, Sweden, were named ITA Doubles All-Americans. They formed the Belles' top doubles team and ended the shortened season ranked No. 4 in the nation. They are ASU's first ITA Doubles All-Americans in program history. Logan Drake of Schertz, a junior mechanical engineering major at Angelo State University, has been selected for the U.S. Department of Defense's 2020 Science, Mathematics, and Research for Transformation (SMART) Scholarship-for-Service Program. To be eligible for SMART, students must be pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in one of the 21 science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) fields approved by the Department of Defense. Four Angelo State University student athletic trainers have earned 2019-20 Lone Star Conference Athletic Training Student Academic Awards. Each academic year, the LSC recognizes student athletic trainers who devote countless hours to assist with the operation of their athletics department while also excelling in the classroom. To be eligible, student athletic trainers must carry at least a 3.30 GPA and have earned a minimum of 24 credit hours at the nominating institution. Lawson Ayo of Sunnyvale, a student assistant for Angelo State University's Athletic Communications Office, has earned a 2019-20 Lone Star Conference Sports Information Student Academic Award. Each academic year, the LSC recognizes sports information students who devote countless hours to assist with the operation of their athletics department while also excelling in the classroom. To be eligible, sports information students must carry at least a 3.30 GPA and have earned a minimum of 24 credit hours at the nominating institution. The qualifications mirror those required of student-athletes to gain LSC All-Academic recognition. Angelo State University's chapter of the Alpha Chi national honor society has inducted 18 new members for the spring 2020 semester, despite not being able to conduct an on-campus induction ceremony. Alpha Chi is one of the nation's most prestigious honor societies and is open to students majoring in any academic discipline. To be eligible, students must rank in the top 10 percent of graduate students or seniors at their college or university, or in the top 7.5 percent of juniors. Avery McNeme of Lubbock, a junior midfielder on the Angelo State University Rambelles soccer team, has been named to the inaugural Lone Star Conference Athletic Performance All-Conference Team as announced by LSC officials April 16. For the 2019 season, McNeme was the Belles' co-leader in goals scored (5) and led the LSC in assists (10). She repeated as the LSC Midfielder of the Year and on the All-LSC first team. She was also a first-team All-South Central Region and first-team All-West Region Scholar selection, and was named a third-team All-American. A kinesiology major at ASU, McNeme was an all-district and all-region player for Monterey Senior High School in Lubbock. Angelo State University's chapter of the Phi Kappa Phi (PKP) national honor society inducted its spring 2020 class of 51 students during a special virtual initiation ceremony April 14 on Facebook. PKP is one of the nation's most prestigious academic honor societies for students in all academic disciplines. ASU's chapter has also awarded 20 pre-membership Certificates of Merit to freshmen in the top 2.5 percent of their class and sophomores in the top 5 percent of their class in recognition of their academic success and as encouragement to join PKP when they are eligible as juniors. Joshua Elvir of Kemah, a senior outfielder on the Angelo State University Rams baseball team, has been named the inaugural Lone Star Conference Male Athletic Performance Athlete of the Year as announced by LSC officials on April 16. The 2019 LSC Player of the Year and 2020 Preseason Player of the Year, Elvir was off to another impressive start this season before it was shortened by the COVID-19 pandemic. Through 22 games, he posted a .438 batting average with 10 doubles, 11 home runs, 30 RBIs, 44 runs scored, 27 walks and 15 stolen bases. Trpimir Siroki of Zagreb, Croatia, a sophomore on the Angelo State University Rams track and field team, has been named the Lone Star Conference Male Field Athlete of the Year for the 2020 LSC indoor track and field season as voted on by the LSC head coaches. Siroki scored a meet-high 34 points to help lead the Rams to their first-ever title at the LSC Indoor Track and Field Championships. He won the long jump and placed second in the high jump, third in the pole vault and triple jump, and fifth in the 60-meter hurdles. See more details at angelosports.com.

Andres Ibarguen of Santa Marta, Colombia, a senior forward in the Angelo State University Rams basketball team, has been named to the NCAA Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) All-South Central Region second team for his performance during the 2019-20 season. Ibarguen was second on the Rams in scoring at 14.3 points per game and led all of NCAA D-II averaging 5.3 offensive rebounds per game. He was also named second-team All-Lone Star Conference. De'Anira Moore of Allen, a senior forward on the Angelo State University Belles basketball team, has been named to the All-South Central Region first team for women's basketball by the NCAA Division II Conference Commissioners Association for the 2019-20 season. Through the Belles' 28 games, Moore led the team in points per game (18.2), rebounds per game (8.3), field goal percentage (.528) and blocked shots (60). In the Lone Star Conference, she was third in points, rebounds and blocked shots per game. With their season shortened by coronavirus issues, the Belles finished 18-10 overall and 14-10 in the LSC. Zoe Gubbels of Velserbroek, Netherlands, a junior on the Angelo State University Rambelles tennis team, has been named the Lone Star Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week for her performances during the week ending March 8. Playing in Wichita Falls March 5-7, Gubbels went undefeated in singles and doubles to lead the Belles to a sweep of regional opponents Colorado Mesa University, Colorado State - Pueblo and Metropolitan State. She won all three of her singles matches - and with her partner Virginie Becht of Vero Beach, Fla., won all three doubles matches. See the story on angelosports.com.

A team of Angelo State University civil engineering students brought home several awards and qualified for a national contest after taking part in competitions at the American Society of Civil Engineers' Texas-Mexico Student Symposium March 4-7 in Arlington. The 10-member ASU "RAMgineers" competed in three contests at the symposium: the Surveying Competition, Blue Sky Competition and Concrete Bowling Competition. They took first place in the Surveying Competition, which qualified them for the national competition at the 2020 UESI Conference this summer in Indiana. Cody Vasquez of Midland, a graduate student in business at Angelo State University, was named the 2020 National Collegian of the Year by the Delta Sigma Pi (DSP) national professional business fraternity at the DSP South Central LEAD Provincial Conference held March 6-8 in Dallas. The National Collegian of the Year Award is the top DSP honor for its collegiate members. Vasquez will begin a two-year term representing collegiate members on the DSP Board of Directors in August. Courtney Barnhill of Lubbock, an All-American outfielder on the Angelo State University Rambelles softball team, set a new ASU career home runs record on March 7 in the Belles' victory over St. Mary's University. In the bottom of the first inning, Barnhill hit a two-run homer over the right-centerfield fence to give the Belles a 2-0 lead. It was her 47th career home run and put her ahead of the former ASU record holder, Kenedy Urbany, who belted 46 home runs from 2014-17. Through 25 games this season, Barnhill currently leads the Belles in batting average (.375), home runs (6), RBIs (21), runs scored (21), slugging percentage (.722), on-base percentage (.465) and stolen bases (20).

Nick Seginowich of Victoria, British Columbia, a senior catcher on the Angelo State University Rams baseball team, has been named the NCAA Division II South Central Region Hitter of the Week for his performances during the week ending March 1. In helping lead the Rams to a 3-1 series win over arch-rival No. 14 West Texas A&M, Seginowich hit .400 with two home runs, 10 RBIs and four runs scored. He ended Game 1 of the series with a walk-off sacrifice fly, and he ended Game 2 with a walk-off 3-run homer. Two members of the Angelo State University Rams basketball team have earned All-Lone Star Conference honors for their performances during the 2019-20 regular season. Andres Ibarguen of Santa Marta, Colombia, (by way of Athens, Texas) and Collin Turner of Poolesville, Md., were both named to the All-LSC second team. Ibarguen led the Rams in rebounding and led NCAA Division II in offensive rebounds per game. Turner led the Rams in scoring and tied the school record for single-game scoring with 44 points against Texas A&M-Kingsville on Feb. 20. More details are available at angelosports.com.

Six members of Angelo State University's Ram Powerlifting Club brought home a host of awards, including three first-place medals, from the U.S.A. Powerlifting (USAPL) Texas Strength Classic competition held March 1 at Texas Strength Systems in San Antonio. Jaylen Montgomery of Hewitt, Yakariel "Kory" Young of Killeen, and Nicholas Propst of Atascosa took first place in their respective divisions. Nick Seginowich of Victoria, British Columbia, a senior catcher on the Angelo State University Rams baseball team, has been named the Lone Star Conference Hitter of the Week for his performances during the week ending March 1. As the Rams took three of four games from No. 14 West Texas A&M, Seginowich batted .400 with one double, two home runs, 10 RBIs and four runs scored. He finished two of the Rams' wins in walk-off fashion with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 11th inning of Game 1, and a 3-run homer to end Game 2. Four members of the Angelo State University Belles basketball team earned All-Lone Star Conference recognition for their performances during the 2019-20 regular season. De'Anira Moore of Allen was named to the All-LSC first team. Catara Samuel of Amarillo was named to the All-LSC third team. Asia Davis of Midwest City, Okla., earned All-LSC honorable mention - and Sawyer Lloyd of Wall also earned All-LSC honorable mention and was named to the LSC All-Freshman Team. Allie Denham of San Antonio, a senior biology major at Angelo State University, won the top prize for her undergraduate research poster at the annual meeting of the Texas Society of Mammalogists (TSM) held Feb. 21-23 at the Texas Tech University Llano River Field Station in Junction. Denham won the Clyde Jones Award for Best Undergraduate Student Poster Presentation in mammalian molecular biology, evolution and systematics. Her research project is titled "Genetic variation within a species of parasitic nematode, Skrjabingylus chitwoodorum, in skunks." Twenty-one members of the Angelo State University track and field teams have earned a total of 31 NCAA Division II All-South Central Region honors that were announced March 2 by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. Twelve ASU Rams and nine Rambelles athletes were honored. Four Rams and three Rambelles were named all-region in multiple events. Valentina Gonzalez of Medellin, Colombia, a junior on the Angelo State University Rambelles tennis team, has been named the Lone Star Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week for her performances during the week ending Feb. 23. In helping the Belles win all three of their matches in Arkansas last week, Gonzalez went 3-0 as ASU's No. 1 singles player and 2-1 as part of ASU's No. 1 doubles team with Ena Ovcina of Tidaholm, Sweden. For the ASU Rambelles - Mia van Oudtshoorn of Roodskool, Kroonstad, South Africa, was named the LSC Women's Indoor Track and Field Academic Athlete of the Year, as well as earning a spot on the All-Academic Team. For the ASU Rams - Levi Britting of Albany was named to the LSC Men's All-Academic Team. To be eligible for LSC academic honors, student-athletes must carry at least a 3.30 GPA and have reached sophomore status both athletically and academically. The Academic Athlete of Year awards and All-Academic Team are selected from the list of academically qualified players, with the league's sports information directors voting on the basis of both academic and athletic achievement. Topping the accolades for ASU were Faith Roberson of Wall, who was named Outstanding Female Track Athlete; and Trpimir Siroki of Zagreb, Croatia, who was named Outstanding Male Field Athlete. Collin Turner of Poolesville, Md., a senior guard on the Angelo State University Rams basketball team, has been named the Lone Star Conference Offensive Player of the Week for his performances during the week ending Feb. 23. In victories over Texas A&M-Kingsville and Texas A&M-International, Turner led the Rams in scoring for both games. He scored a career-high 44 points as the Rams beat A&M-Kingsville, 80-73, and then scored a team-high 22 points in the 79-69 win over A&M-International. This is Turner's second LSC Player of the Week honor this season - and he now sits third all-time in the ASU Rams record book for points scored. See more details at angelosports.com.

The Angelo State University Rams track and field team claimed its first-ever Lone Star Conference Indoor Championship with a dominant performance Feb. 21-22 in Lubbock. The Rams scored 188 points to claim the title, well ahead of West Texas A&M (148 pts) and Texas A&M-Commerce (117.5 pts) in the standings. Five Rams also claimed individual titles as Trivett Jones won the pole vault, Canon Andrews won the weight throw, Trpimir Siroki won the long jump, Matthew Walsh won the triple jump, and Diego Pettorossi won the 200-meter dash. More than 200 Angelo State University student-athletes and student-athletic trainers have been named to the ASU Athletic Director's Honor Roll for their academic performance during the 2019 fall semester. To be eligible, students must post at least a 3.0 grade point average (GPA) for a semester, or have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 during their time at ASU. Overall, the ASU Athletics Department posted a 2.99 GPA for the fall 2019 semester, with 10 of ASU's 13 teams posting a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0. Parker Bramlett of Bullard, a junior second baseman for the Angelo State University Rams baseball team, has been named the Lone Star Conference Hitter of the Week for his performances during the week ending Feb. 16. Batting lead-off for the Rams during their four-game sweep of Cameron University, Bramlett helped lead the offensive charge by going 11-for-16 at the plate for a .611 batting average with four doubles, two triples, 10 RBIs and eight runs scored. Bramlett is now hitting .513 over the Rams' first 10 games of the season with 17 RBIs and four stolen bases as the Rams sit at 10-0. See more details on angelosports.com.
