More than 160 Angelo State University student-athletes and athletic training students have been named to the Lone Star Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll for the fall 2020 semester. The Commissioner's Honor Roll is announced at the conclusion of each fall and spring semester and includes student-athletes and athletic training students with a grade point average of 3.30 or better during the semester. Lindsey Ledyard, a member of the Angelo State University Belles volleyball team, has been named the Lone Star Conference Preseason Setter of the Year for the spring 2021 season. A senior from Cedar Park, Ledyard made the All-LSC second team last season as she helped lead the Belles to the LSC championship. She posted 571 assists and 279 digs. Kailyn Gilbreath, a member of the Angelo State University Belles volleyball team, has been named the Lone Star Conference Preseason Offensive Player of the Year for the spring 2021 season. A redshirt junior from Fort Worth, Gilbreath is the reigning LSC Offensive Player of the Year. She also made the All-LSC first team following the 2019 fall season and earned All-America honors from the NCAA Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) and American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA). Angelo State University in San Angelo, Texas, has announced the students achieving the Dean's List designation for the 2020 fall semester. To be eligible for the ASU Dean's List, full-time undergraduate students must maintain a 3.25 or better grade point average on a 4.0 scale. Angelo State University's student String Orchestra has produced a concert video that is now available to the public on YouTube. Recorded at Southland Baptist Church, the 22-minute concert video is titled "Autumn Divertimento" and includes performances of: "Divertimento" in B Flat Major by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart Three Pieces in Baroque Style by Krzysztof Penderecki "Concerto Grosso No. 1" for String Orchestra with Piano Obligato by Ernest Bloch The String Orchestra is directed by Dr. Fagner Rocha, ASU director of orchestral activities, who also accompanied the students on violin for the concert. Angelo State University's chapter of the Phi Kappa Phi (PKP) national honor society recently inducted its fall 2020 class of 58 students during a special virtual initiation ceremony on Facebook. ASU's chapter has also awarded 22 pre-membership Certificates of Merit to freshmen in the top 2.5% of their class and sophomores in the top 5% of their class in recognition of their academic success and as encouragement to join PKP when they are eligible as juniors. The Angelo State University Chorale has produced a choir concert video that is now available to the public on YouTube. Recorded at various venues around the ASU campus, the 20-minute concert video is titled "HumanKIND." It features performances of a wide variety of music, including contemporary choral music, as well as arrangements from Pentatonix and a new arrangement of the ASU Alma Mater. Alpha Chi is one of the nation's most prestigious honor societies and is open to students majoring in any academic discipline. To be eligible, students must rank in the top 10 percent of graduate students or seniors at their college or university, or in the top 7.5 percent of juniors. Anna Wiklund of Hoviksnas, Sweden, a member of the Angelo State University Rambelles golf team, has been named the Lone Star Conference Women's Golfer of the Week for her performance during the week ending Oct. 11. A junior international business major, Wiklund won the Oklahoma Intercollegiate Tournament in Lawton, Okla. She shot a 147 for the 36-hole tournament, finishing with six birdies and 20 pars. She led after both days of the tournament, shooting a 73 in the opening round and a 74 in the second round. She also helped lead the Belles to a third-place team finish. Anna Wiklund of Hoviksnas, Sweden, a member of the Angelo State University Rambelles golf team, took first place at the Oklahoma Intercollegiate Tournament held Oct. 11-12 in Lawton, Okla. Wiklund carded a two-day total score of 147 to win the tournament by five strokes. She led at the end of Day 1 after shooting a two-over-par 73, including four birdies and eight pars. She added two birdies and 12 pars on Day 2 on the way to a three-over 74. She also led the Belles to a third-place overall finish in the seven-team field. The following people recently were initiated into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation's oldest and most selective collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines.

Angelo State University's chapter of the Order of the Sword and Shield honor society has inducted its 2019-20 class of 19 students via a virtual induction ceremony. The Order of the Sword and Shield is the only academic and professional honor society dedicated exclusively to homeland security, intelligence, emergency management and other protective security disciplines. To be eligible, undergraduate students must have at least a 3.25 GPA, and graduate students must have at least a 3.5 GPA. Seven members of the Angelo State University Rambelles tennis team have been named 2020 Scholar-Athletes by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA). To be eligible for the designation, student-athletes must have at least a 3.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale. Additionally, the ITA has also named the Rambelles a 2020 All-Academic Team. Meghan Parker of San Antonio, a setter on the Angelo State University Belles volleyball team, has been nominated for the 2020 NCAA Woman of the Year Award. Parker graduated summa cum laude in December 2019 with her bachelor's degree in exercise science. During the 2019 season, she helped lead the Belles to a 29-3 overall record and the Lone Star Conference Tournament Championship on the way to advancing to the NCAA Division II Tournament. Following the 2019 season, Parker was named to the All-LSC first team and the LSC All-Academic Team, and was named the LSC Academic Player of the Year for volleyball. Angelo State University has announced its Outstanding Graduate Student honorees for the 2019-20 academic year, as well as the recipients of four new superlative awards. Each of the 20 honorees was nominated by faculty in their respective academic departments. Winners of the four new superlative awards were selected from among the Outstanding Graduate Students by a separate committee. These awards are normally announced during the annual Graduate Research Symposium and Awards Ceremony, but the event had to be cancelled this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Two Angelo State University student-athletes, Meagan Hill of Salado and Nicholas Novak of Stillwater, Minn., have earned Lone Star Conference Scholar-Athlete Awards for their performances during the 2019-20 academic/athletic year. Each academic year, the LSC presents a Scholar-Athlete Award to one male and one female student-athlete at member universities. Winners are selected as representatives of the outstanding accomplishments in athletics, scholarship and leadership that are displayed on each LSC campus during the year. To be eligible, student-athletes must have participated at least two years in their sport and be a member of the graduating class. Hill is a pitcher for the Rambelles softball team. She graduated in May with her civil engineering degree. Novak is a shortstop on the Rams baseball team. He graduated in May with his business administration degree. Keely Shaw of San Angelo, a senior history major and honors student at Angelo State University, is one of just 40 college students nationwide selected for the 2020 Library of Congress Junior Fellows summer internship program. The Junior Fellows program is a 10-week paid internship designed to expose the fellows to the breadth and depth of the work that takes place at the Library of Congress, the world's largest library. Thirteen members of the Angelo State University Rams and Rambelles indoor track and field teams have been named NCAA Division II All-Americans for their performances during the 2019-20 season. Due to the cancellation of the NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships, the Executive Committee adopted revamped criteria. Based on the posted startlist for the national championships announced by the NCAA, the following will be recognized as All-America for the 2020 indoor track & field season: - Individual events: ALL student-athletes listed on the startlist for the anticipated event. - Relay events: The four student-athletes per anticipated relay who produced the performance that was declared and accepted into their event. - There will not be a distinction of "first-team" or "second-team" to these recognitions. Fourteen Angelo State University student-athletes have earned the ASU Athletics Department's 2019-20 Holland's Awards. The winners of the annual awards are voted on by their teammates for their actions both on and off the field or court. One winner is chosen for each of ASU's athletic teams and the athletic training team, and the awards are sponsored by Holland's Jewelers. Joselyn Jackson of Artesia, N.M., a junior on the Angelo State University Rambelles golf team, has been named to the Lone Star Conference's 2019-20 Women's Golf All-Academic Team. To be eligible for LSC academic honors, student-athletes must carry at least a 3.30 grade point average and be at least a sophomore, both academically and athletically. All-Academic Team members are selected from the list of academically qualified players, with the league's sports information directors voting based on both academic and athletic achievement. Destiny Brown of Austin, a political science major at Angelo State University, has been selected for the ASU Political Science and Philosophy Department's 2020 Government and Public Service Internship Program in Washington, D.C. If the status of the COVID-19 pandemic permits, Brown will spend the upcoming fall semester working as an intern for a member of the U.S. Congress. She will live at the Texas Tech House with other interns from Texas Tech University and will receive an $8,000 stipend to help defray the costs of living in Washington, D.C. Two members of the Angelo State University Rambelles tennis team have been named 2019-20 All-Americans by the International Tennis Association. Valentina Gonzalez of Medellin, Colombia, and Ena Ovcina of Tidaholm, Sweden, were named ITA Doubles All-Americans. They formed the Belles' top doubles team and ended the shortened season ranked No. 4 in the nation. They are ASU's first ITA Doubles All-Americans in program history. Logan Drake of Schertz, a junior mechanical engineering major at Angelo State University, has been selected for the U.S. Department of Defense's 2020 Science, Mathematics, and Research for Transformation (SMART) Scholarship-for-Service Program. To be eligible for SMART, students must be pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in one of the 21 science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) fields approved by the Department of Defense. Fewer than 20% of SMART applicants are selected each year, and Drake is the first ASU student to be chosen as a SMART Scholar. More details are available at angelo.edu.

Four Angelo State University student athletic trainers have earned 2019-20 Lone Star Conference Athletic Training Student Academic Awards. Each academic year, the LSC recognizes student athletic trainers who devote countless hours to assist with the operation of their athletics department while also excelling in the classroom. To be eligible, student athletic trainers must carry at least a 3.30 GPA and have earned a minimum of 24 credit hours at the nominating institution.
