Angelo State's Hill Named NCAA D-II Softball Pitcher of the Week

Meagan Hill of Salado, a senior on the Angelo State University Rambelles softball team, has been named the Wilson/NFCA Division II Pitcher of the Week by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association for her performances during the week ending Feb. 9. Hill was dominant in her two starts at the Florida Tech Invite tournament in Melbourne, Fla. She threw her first collegiate no-hitter in a 2-0 victory over Molloy College, and followed that up with a 1-hit shutout in another 2-0 win over No. 9 Florida Tech. Over the 14 innings, Hill struck out 15 batters and walked only one. Now 2-1 with a 0.82 ERA, Hill will lead the Belles into ASU's George and Ola McCorkle Challenge tournament this weekend. Angelo State's Elder Named LSC Baseball Pitcher of the Week

Benjamin Elder of Chico, Calif., a junior on the Angelo State University Rams baseball team, has been named the Lone Star Conference Pitcher of the Week for his performance during the week ending Feb. 10. Against Oklahoma Christian University on Feb. 9, Elder tossed six shutout innings, giving up only two hits and posting 12 strikeouts with no walks as the Rams squeaked out a 9-8 victory. Only a shaky bullpen performance over the final three innings denied Elder his second win of the season. A towering 6-6, 250-pound lefty, Elder has a 1-0 record with a 0.00 ERA, 18 strikeouts and no walks over his first two starts for the Rams this season. Angelo State's Hill Named LSC Softball Pitcher of the Week

Meagan Hill of Salado, a senior on the Angelo State University Rambelles softball team, has been named the Lone Star Conference Pitcher of the Week for her performances during the week ending Feb. 9. Pitching at the Florida Tech Invitational in Melbourne, Fla., Hill tossed her first no-hitter of the season on Feb. 7 in a 2-0 victory over Molloy College. Then, on Feb. 8, she tossed a 1-hit shutout against Florida Tech in another 2-0 Belles win. For the week, Hill pitched 14 innings and allowed only two baserunners on one hit and one walk. She also posted 15 strikeouts and now boasts a 2-1 record and 0.82 ERA. Read the official story on the LSC website.

Angelo State Wool Judging Team Wins San Antonio Contest

The Angelo State University Agriculture Department's student Wool Judging Team took first place and ASU's Jaelynn Page of Sweetwater won the individual championship at the 2020 San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo Collegiate Wool Judging Contest on Feb. 8. ASU sent two four-person teams to the contest to compete against 24 other teams from Texas A&M University, Texas Tech University, Kansas State University, University of Wyoming and Colorado State University. The ASU team made up of Page, Zane Allen of Gail, Brittyn Walker of League City and Clayton Eckhardt of New Braunfels scored 2,094 points to take first place. The ASU team made up of Alyssa Cowan of Hermleigh, Hunter Redman of San Angelo, Alina Rangel of Liberty Hill and Sydney Routon of Katy finished in fourth place with 2,071 points. Angelo State's Andrade Named LSC Men's Field Athlete of the Week

Decio Andrade of Camacha, Portugal, a sophomore on the Angelo State University Rams track and field team, has been named the Lone Star Conference Men's Field Athlete of the Week for his performance during the week ending Feb. 2. Competing at the Pittsburg State Invitational in Pittsburg, Kan., Andrade was the top collegiate finisher in the weight throw with a heave of 69 feet, 2.5 inches (21.09 meters). The NCAA Division II automatic qualifying mark set a new ASU and Lone Star Conference record - and ranks fourth in NCAA D-II this season. Read the full story on angelosports.com.

Angelo State's Roberson Named LSC Women's Track Athlete of the Week

Faith Roberson of Wall, a junior on the Angelo State University Rambelles track and field team, has been named the Lone Star Conference Women's Track Athlete of the Week for her performances during the week ending Feb. 2. Competing at the Pittsburg State Invitational in Pittsburg, Kan., Roberson ran the second-best LSC time of the season in the 60-meter hurdles prelims before finishing seventh in the event. She also ran a leg of the 4x400 relay team that finished first with a time of 3:51.83, the top time in the LSC this season. Read the full story on angelosports.com.

Angelo State's Elvir Named LSC Baseball Preseason Player of the Year

Joshua Elvir of Kemah, a senior outfielder on the Angelo State University Rams baseball team, has been named the Lone Star Conference 2020 Preseason Player of the Year. An All-American and the 2019 NCAA Division II Most Outstanding Player, Elvir led the nation in batting average (.458), slugging percentage (.989), on-base percentage (584) and RBIs (81). He also tallied 20 home runs and 75 runs scored, was 11 of 12 in stolen bases, and posted a .970 fielding percentage. The Rams have also been picked to repeat as conference champions in the LSC Preseason Poll. Their season opener is Jan. 31 at home against Eastern New Mexico University. Angelo State's Jones Named LSC Field Athlete of the Week

Trivett Jones of Rowlett, a member of the Angelo State University Rams track and field team, has been named the Lone Star Conference Field Athlete of the Week for his performance at the Texas Tech University Corky Classic on Jan. 18 in Lubbock. Competing in the A Section of the pole vault that included athletes from NCAA Division I power schools like Texas Tech and Louisiana State, Jones took first place with a vault of 16-4 (4.98 meters). His mark currently ranks ninth in the nation. In 2019, Jones won a LSC title and earned NCAA D-II All-America honors in the pole vault for the Rams. Read the full story at angelosports.com.

Angelo State's Mathiowetz Named LSC Baseball Hitter of the Week

Brad Mathiowetz of Rochester, Minn., a senior on the Angelo State University Rams baseball team, has been named the Lone Star Conference Hitter of the Week for his performances during the week ending Feb. 2. During a three-game series sweep of Eastern New Mexico, Mathiowetz hit .500 with a double, a triple, a home run, eight RBIs and three walks. Angelo State Business Students Featured in Professional Panel

Six members of Angelo State University's chapter of Delta Sigma Pi, America's most prestigious business fraternity, were chosen to participate in the featured panel at the Meet The Chapter event on Jan. 21 in Angelo State's Houston Harte University Center. These members addressed not only current members of the organization, but more importantly, potential future members who are currently going through recruitment. The distinguished speakers spoke about their time in Delta Sigma Pi, the memories they have made, and the legacy ASU's Eta Theta Chapter has started. The speakers included Taylor Avant of Addison, Daniel Dixon of San Angelo, Ryan Elderton of Goldthwaite, Thalia Lopez of Fort Stockton, James Marques of Round Rock, and Eryck Rodriguez of Ciudad Acuna, Mexico.

Angelo State Students Named Intramural Flag Football All-Americans

Five Angelo State University intramural flag football players and one student official have been named 2019 All-Americans for their performances at the NIRSA National Flag Football Championships held Jan. 3-5 in Round Rock, Texas. Taylor Hoelscher of San Angelo, Kenzi Huseman of Mineral Wells and Xavier Sanchez of Irving, players for ASU team "Roll Tide," were named All-Americans in the Co-Rec Division. Jacie Klose of Haskell, a player on ASU's "Vixen," made the Women's Division All-America Team. Ruben Jimenez of La Porte, a player for ASU team "Wolfpac" was named All-American in the Men's Division. ASU's Josh Hale of Abilene was named an All-American Official. More details are available on the NIRSA website.

Angelo State Student-Athletes Make LSC Commissioner's Honor Roll

More than 150 Angelo State University student-athletes and student-athletic trainers have earned spots on the Lone Star Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll for their academic performance during the 2019 fall semester. To be eligible for the honor roll, student-athletes must maintain at least a 3.3 GPA for the semester. A total of 146 ASU student-athletes and six student-athletic trainers made the honor roll for fall 2019, and ASU led the LSC with 51 student-athletes posting a perfect 4.0 GPA. Angelo State University Releases Fall 2019 Dean's List

Angelo State University in San Angelo, Texas, has announced the students achieving the Dean's List designation for the 2019 fall semester. To be eligible for the ASU Dean's List, full-time undergraduate students must maintain at least a 3.25 grade point average (GPA) on a 4.0 scale. Angelo State University Commencement Ceremony Held Saturday, Dec.14

Angelo State University conferred 452 undergraduate and 188 graduate degrees during its 2019 fall commencement exercises on December 14 in the ASU Junell Center/Stephens Arena in San Angelo, Texas. A full list of the graduates is available on the ASU website at angelo.edu. Videos of the two commencement ceremonies are also available.

Angelo State Volleyball Players Earn All-America Honors

Three members of the Angelo State University Belles volleyball team have earned 2019 All-America honors from the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA). Kailyn Gilbreath of Fort Worth, a redshirt sophomore right side, was named to the NCAA Division II All-America third team. Senior right side Sundara Chinn of Houston and senior setter Meghan Parker of San Antonio earned All-America honorable mention from the AVCA. More details are available on the AVCA website.

Angelo State's McNeme Earns Soccer All-America Honors

Avery McNeme of Lubbock, a junior midfielder on the Angelo State University Rambelles soccer team, has been named to the 2019 NCAA Division II All-America third team by the United Soccer Coaches organization. McNeme led the Lone Star Conference with 10 assists and chipped in five goals for the Rambelles. She was also third in the conference with 34 shots on goal on her way to being named LSC Midfielder of the Year for the second straight season. She was also named to the All-LSC first team, LSC All-Academic Team and LSC All-Tournament Team. Earlier this week, McNeme was also named to the United Soccer Coaches' All-South Central Region first team. Prior to joining ASU, McNeme starred at Lubbock Monterey High School, where she earned first-team all-district and all-region honors.

Angelo State's Gilbreath Earns Volleyball All-America Honors

Kailyn Gilbreath of Fort Worth, a redshirt sophomore on the Angelo State University Belles volleyball team, has earned All-America honorable mention honors from the NCAA Division II Conference Commissioner's Association (D2CCA) for her performance during the 2019 season. Gilbreath led the Belles' attack with 386 kills, a .358 hitting percentage and an average of 3.42 kills per set. She was also second on the team with 32 service aces and added 92 digs and 42 blocks. Angelo State's Moore Named LSC Offensive Player of the Week

De'Anira Moore of Allen, a senior forward on the Angelo State University Belles basketball team, has been named Lone Star Conference Offensive Player of the Week for her performances during the week ending Dec. 8. The Belles went 2-0 last week with wins over Tarleton State University and Texas Woman's University. Moore scored 16 points against TSU and added 19 points against TWU. She shot 53% from the field and 79% from the free throw line while also notching 15 total rebounds, two blocks, two steals and one assist in the two victories. See the full story on angelosports.com.

Angelo State's Kyle Named Football All-Region

Hunter Kyle of Wichita Falls, a linebacker on the Angelo State University Rams football team, has been named to the NCAA D-II Conference Commissioner's Association (D2CCA) All-South Central Region second team for his performance during the 2019 season. A junior management major, Kyle led the Rams' defense in tackles with 101, as well as sacks (4.5) and tackles for loss (12). He added one interception and one fumble recovery. He was also named to the All-Lone Star Conference second team.

Angelo State's Lloyd Named LSC Defensive Player of the Week

Sawyer Lloyd of Wall, a freshman guard on the Angelo State University Belles basketball team, has been named Lone Star Conference Defensive Player of the Week for her performances during the week ending Dec. 8. The Belles went 2-0 last week with LSC wins over Tarleton State University and Texas Woman's University. Over the two games, Lloyd notched seven rebounds, seven steals and two blocks while also scoring 21 points and adding three assists. Read the full story on angelosports.com.

Angelo State Ram Powerlifters Medal at 2019 Longhorn Open

Angelo State University's Ram Powerlifting Club brought home a host of awards, including five first-place medals, from the U.S.A. Powerlifting 2019 Longhorn Open held Nov. 23 at the University of Texas at Austin. Competing against teams from colleges and universities across Texas, ASU team members also recorded one runner-up and two third-place performances in various categories of both "equipped" and "raw" contests. Equipped contests allow competitors to wear special clothing, including bench shirts, squat suits and knee wraps, that allow them to lift heavier weights. Angelo State Belles Make Volleyball All-LSC Tournament Team

Three members of the Angelo State University Belles volleyball team were named to the All-Lone Star Conference Tournament Team following the Belles' tournament championship on Nov. 23. Senior outside hitter Sundara Chinn of Houston was named the LSC Tournament MVP. She was joined on the all-tournament team by junior middle blocker Baleigh Allen of Katy and sophomore defensive specialist Makenna Hanssen of San Antonio. By winning the LSC Tournament, the Belles earned the LSC's automatic bid to the NCAA D-II South Central Regional Tournament that begins Dec. 5. See more details at angelosports.com.

Angelo State Rams Earn All-LSC Football Honors

Fifteen players from the Angelo State University Rams football team have earned All-Lone Star Conference accolades for their performances during the 2019 season. Receiver Keke Chisum, defensive tackle G'Karri McCoy and safety Leddy French were named to the All-LSC first team. Receiver Lawson Ayo, linebacker Hunter Kyle, cornerback Devin Washington, safety Darrick Dickerson and specialist Dane McElrath made the All-LSC second team. Offensive tackle Blake Harrison, center A.J. Wozniak, quarterback Payne Sullins, kicker Connor Flanagan, defensive end Dagen Dunham and cornerback Deshaun Douglas earned All-LSC honorable mention. Angelo State Tennis Players Earn Regional and National Rankings

Five members of the Angelo State University Rambelles tennis team have entered the latest regional and national rankings released by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. Nationally, Valentina Gonzalez and Ena Ovcina are ranked No. 4 in doubles, while also ranking No. 2 in the South Central Region. Their teammates, Zoe Gubbels and Maria Delgadillo, are ranked No. 3 for doubles in the South Central Region. In singles, Gonzalez is ranked No. 25 nationally and No. 5 in the region, while Daniela Rodriguez and Ovcina enter the regional rankings at No. 8 and No. 12, respectively. Angelo State Belles Earn All-LSC Volleyball Honors

Seven members of the Angelo State University Belles volleyball team have earned All-Lone Star Conference postseason awards for their performances during the 2019 regular season. Setter Meghan Parker won the Academic Player of the Year Award and was named to the All-LSC first team and the LSC All-Academic Team. Right side Kailyn Gilbreath won the Offensive Player of the Year Award and was also named to the All-LSC first team and the LSC All-Academic Team. Right side Sundara Chinn was named to the All-LSC first team. Setter Lindsey Ledyard was named to the All-LSC second team. Defensive specialist Makenna Hanssen and outside hitter Haley Coulter earned All-LSC honorable mention. Angelo State Belles Named LSC Volleyball Players of the Week

Angelo State University Belles volleyball players Sundara Chinn and Makenna Hanssen each earned Lone Star Conference Player of the Week honors for their performances during the week ending Nov. 17. Chinn, a senior right side from Houston, was named LSC Offensive Player of the Week. She registered 27 total kills as the Belles went 2-0 for the week with wins over Tarleton State University and Dallas Baptist University. This is her second Offensive Player of the Week Award this season. Hanssen, a sophomore defensive specialist from San Antonio, was named LSC Defensive Player of the Week. Angelo State Rams Sweep LSC Weekly Basketball Awards

Angelo State University Rams basketball players Collin Turner and Andres Ibarguen Andrews have swept the Lone Star Conference Player of the Week Awards for their performances during the week ending Nov. 17. A senior from Poolsville, Md., Turner picked up LSC Offensive Player of the Week honors as the Rams went 2-0 for the week over Sonoma State and San Francisco State. Angelo State Belles Earn All-LSC Soccer Honors

Angelo State University Rambelles soccer players Avery McNeme, Trenadey Scott and Chloe Souza all earned Lone Star Conference postseason awards for their performances during the 2019 season. McNeme won her second straight Midfielder of the Year Award and was named to the All-LSC first team, the Academic All-LSC Team and the LSC All-Tournament Team. Angelo State Inducts 71 Students to Phi Kappa Phi National Honor Society

Angelo State University's chapter of the Phi Kappa Phi (PKP) national honor society inducted its fall 2019 class of 71 students during a special initiation ceremony on Nov. 12 in the Houston Harte University Center. PKP is one of the nation's most prestigious academic honor societies for students in all academic disciplines. Invitations to join PKP are extended to seniors and graduate students in the top 10% of their class, and to juniors in the top 7.5% of their class. Angelo State's McNeme Earns Second LSC Player of the Week Honor

Avery McNeme of Lubbock, a midfielder/forward on the Angelo State University Rambelles soccer team, has been named the Lone Star Conference Offensive Player of the Week for her performance during the week ending Nov. 10. This is her second Player of the Week honor this season. In the Belles' only game last week, McNeme notched a goal and an assist in their 2-1 victory over St. Edward's University to close out the regular season.
