Angelo State Honors Students to Present Research at NCHC Conference

Ten students in the Angelo State University Honors Program have been selected to present their research projects at the 54th annual National Collegiate Honors Council (NCHC) Conference Nov. 6-10 in New Orleans, La. The NCHC Conference annually highlights student and faculty research presentations from across the nation. The submission process for student research projects is highly selective, with hundreds of honors students from throughout the U.S. submitting proposals each year. Read the full story at angelo.edu.

Angelo State's Parker Named LSC Setter of the Week

Meghan Parker of San Antonio, a senior on the Angelo State University Rambelles volleyball team, has been named the Lone Star Conference Setter of the Week for her performances during the week ending Nov. 10. In victories over St. Edward's University and St. Mary's University, Parker registered 31 total assists, leading the Belles' offense to a .293 hitting percentage. Angelo State's Gilbreath Named LSC Offensive Player of the Week

Kailyn Gilbreath of Fort Worth, who plays right side for the Angelo State University Rambelles volleyball team, has been named the Lone Star Conference Offensive Player of the Week for her performances during the week ending Nov. 10. In victories over St. Edward's University and St. Mary's University, Gilbreath registered 31 total kills, averaging 4.67 kills per set and posting a .472 hitting percentage. Angelo State Honors Student Selected to Attend National Conference

Jane Bacon, a junior in the Angelo State University Honors Program, has been selected to attend the 2019 Student Conference on U.S. Affairs Oct. 30 - Nov. 2 at the United States Military Academy at West Point in New York. An intelligence and analysis major from Albuquerque, N.M., Bacon is one of only about 200 undergraduate students from 125 colleges and universities worldwide selected for the annual conference. The theme of this year's conference is "Advancing the National Interest: The Intersection of Domestic Politics and American Foreign Policy." The student delegates will hear from high-profile speakers, discuss and debate the impact of past and current events on U.S. national strategy, and collaborate on policy recommendations for the U.S. government. They will also interact with West Point cadets and experts from academia and public service in roundtable discussions on key issues facing the U.S. today. Read the full story at angelo.edu.

Angelo State Honors Student Named Presidential Fellow

Kate Creecy, a junior in the Angelo State University Honors Program, has been named a 2019-20 Presidential Fellow by the Center for the Study of the Presidency and Congress (CSPC) and will attend the center's annual Fall Leadership Conference in Washington, D.C., Oct. 30 - Nov. 2. A political science major from Denton, Creecy is one of only about 70 Presidential Fellows selected from universities throughout the U.S. and select foreign nations. She will join the other fellows at the conference to engage with policy experts, government and military officials, and leaders in the legislative process. Read the full story at angelo.edu.

Angelo State Animal Science Student Wins State Research Award

Shelby Crockett, a graduate student in the Angelo State University Department of Agriculture, won top honors for her research presentation at the annual meeting of the Texas Section, Society for Range Management earlier this month in Kerrville. An ASU alumna from Clifton, Crocket won the Graduate Student Research Presentation Contest with her project titled "Conditioning Cattle to Consume Salt Cedar." Her faculty research mentor is Dr. Cody Scott, professor of animal science. Additionally, Crockett took third place in the Three-Minute Thesis Competition. Read the full story at angelo.edu.

Angelo State Inducts 60 Students to Alpha Chi Honor Society

Angelo State University's chapter of the Alpha Chi national honor society inducted 60 new student members during a special initiation ceremony on Oct. 17 in the Houston Harte University Center. Alpha Chi is one of the nation's most prestigious honor societies and is open to students majoring in any academic discipline. It has over 300 chapters nationwide with more than 400,000 members. To be eligible, students must rank in the top 10 percent of graduate students or seniors at their college or university, or in the top 7.5 percent of juniors. Angelo State's Miller Named LSC Goalkeeper of the Week

Kira Miller of Frisco, a goalkeeper for the Angelo State University Rambelles soccer team, has been named Lone Star Conference Goalkeeper of the Week for her performances in two ASU victories during the week ending Oct. 6. A sophomore exercise science major, Miller led the Belles to two shutout victories over Midwestern State University and Oklahoma Christian University. She faced nine shots and made four saves in a 2-0 win over MSU - and then faced seven shots and made two saves in a 2-0 win over OCU. She now has five shutouts for the season. Angelo State's McNeme Named LSC Soccer Player of the Week

Avery McNeme of Lubbock, a forward on the Angelo State University Rambelles soccer team, has been named the Lone Star Conference Offensive Player of the Week for her performances during the week ending Oct. 13. A junior kinesiology major, McNeme led the Belles to victories in their two games last week over UT-Permian Basin and Lubbock Christian University. She scored both goals in the 2-0 win over UT-Permian Basin and assisted on the tying goal in the 2-1 overtime win over Lubbock Christian. Angelo State Belles Sweep LSC Volleyball Weekly Awards

Angelo State Belles volleyball players Makenna Hanssen and Meghan Parker of San Antonio and Sundara Chinn of Houston have swept the Lone Star Conference Player of the Week Awards for their performances during the week ending Oct. 6. Hanssen was named Defensive Player of the Week, Parker earned Setter of the Week honors, and Chinn was named Offensive Player of the Week. The ASU trio led the Belles to victories in their two matches against Texas A&M-Commerce and UT-Tyler. The Belles now sit at 15-1 overall and 7-0 in the LSC - and have moved into the national rankings at No. 21 in the AVCA Poll. See more details on angelosports.com.

Angelo State's Ledyard Named LSC Volleyball Setter of the Week

Lindsey Ledyard of Cedar Park, a member of the Angelo State University Belles volleyball team, has been named Lone Star Conference Setter of the Week for her performances during the week ending Oct. 6. A junior marketing major, Ledyard totaled 54 assists over three matches as the Belles swept home victories over Lubbock Christian, UT-Permian Basin and Western New Mexico. She averaged six assists per set as the Belles' offense posted a .287 hitting percentage over the three matches. The Belles are now 13-1 overall and 5-0 in the conference. Angelo State's Quinton Named LSC Defensive Player of the Week

Joshua Quinton of Lubbock, a junior linebacker on the Angelo State University Rams football team, has been named the Lone Star Conference Defensive Player of the Week for his performance in the Rams' 28-6 victory over No. 14 Midwestern State University on Sept. 28. Quinton led the Rams with eight tackles and added a sack, an interception and a fumble recovery. He spearheaded the Rams' defense that held MSU to just 218 total yards of offense, including negative three yards rushing. See more details on angelosports.com.

Angelo State's Hanssen Named LSC Defensive Player of the Week

Makenna Hanssen of San Antonio, a member of the Angelo State University Belles volleyball team, has been named the Lone Star Conference Defensive Player of the Week for her performances during the week ending Sept. 22. In two ASU victories over West Texas A&M (3-1) and Eastern New Mexico (3-0), the sophomore defensive specialist recorded 38 total digs for an average of 5.43 digs per set. In 37 sets so far this season, Hanssen has posted 124 digs to lead the Belles, who sit at 10-1 overall and 2-0 in conference play. See the full story at angelosports.com.

ASU's Gilbreath, Ledyard Named All-Tournament at Mountain Lion Invitational

Kailyn Gilbreath and Lindsey Ledyard, both players on the Angelo State University Belles volleyball team, were named to the All-Tournament Team for the Mountain Lion Invitational held Sept. 12-14 in Colorado Springs, Colo., with Gilbreath also picking up MVP honors. Gilbreath, a redshirt sophomore from Fort Worth, led the Belles in kills (47) and hitting percentage (.448) over their four tournament matches. She also registered 11 digs and one solo block. Ledyard, a junior setter from Cedar Park, posted 81 assists, 25 digs and four service aces to help lead the Belles to a 3-1 record at the tournament. Read the full story on angelosports.com.

Angelo State's Berry, Solis Named LSC Soccer Players of the Week

Marissa Berry of Mesquite and Valerie Solis of Arlington, both players on the Angelo State University Rambelles soccer team, have been named Lone Star Conference Players of the Week for their performances during the week ending Sept. 8. Berry, a sophomore defender, was named LSC Defensive Player of the Week. She led a Belles defensive effort that allowed only seven shots on goal over two games against Fort Lewis College and New Mexico Highlands University. Both games ended in shutout wins for ASU. Solis, a freshman midfielder, was named LSC Offensive Player of the Week. She scored four goals on just five shots over the two games, including two goals in each game. ASU's Bramlett Earns Postseason Honors in Baseball Summer League

Parker Bramlett of Bullard, an infielder on the Angelo State University Rams baseball team, earned All-West Coast League honorable mention honors after helping lead the Victoria HarbourCats to a 39-15 record and a spot in the 2019 WCL Championship finals. The WCL is a summer league for college players. In 35 games for the HarbourCats, Bramlett posted a .304 batting average with one home run, 16 RBI, 29 walks and a team-high 23 stolen bases. He also set a new HarbourCats single-season record for stolen bases. For the ASU Rams in 2019, Bramlett posted a .330 batting average with 43 RBI and 18 stolen bases in 55 games to earn first-team All-Lone Star Conference and LSC All-Defensive Team honors. ASU's Bramlett Sets Steals Record for Summer League Team

Parker Bramlett of Bullard, an infielder on the Angelo State University Rams baseball team, has set a new single-season stolen bases record for the Victoria HarbourCats of the West Coast League, a summer league for college players. During the HarbourCats 12-3 win over the Cowlitz Black Bears on July 30, Bramlett notched his 20th stolen base of the season, breaking the old franchise record of 19 steals set just last season. Through 32 games for Victoria, he is hitting .322 with 15 RBI and 20 steals. For the ASU Rams in 2019, Bramlett posted a .330 batting average with 43 RBI and 18 stolen bases in 55 games to earn first-team All-Lone Star Conference and LSC All-Defensive Team honors. Angelo State's Buske Wins Congressional Internship

Joshua Buske, a junior at Angelo State University, has been selected for the ASU Political Science and Philosophy Department's 2019 Government and Public Service Internship Program in Washington, D.C. A Goldsboro native, Buske is a double major in political science and history. He will spend the upcoming fall semester working as an intern for U.S. Congressman Michael Conaway, who represents the 11th Congressional District that includes San Angelo. Buske will live at the Texas Tech House with other interns from Texas Tech University and will receive an $8,000 stipend to help defray the costs of living in Washington, D.C. Angelo State Business Fraternity Named Tops in Nation

Angelo State University's Eta Theta chapter of the Delta Sigma Pi (DSP) national professional business fraternity received the 2018-19 R. Nelson Mitchell Outstanding Collegiate Chapter Award at the DSP 2019 Grand Chapter Congress held Aug. 14-18 in Atlanta. The R. Nelson Mitchell Award is the most prestigious honor a DSP collegiate chapter can attain. The ASU chapter won the award over close to 300 collegiate chapters nationwide - and also won nine regional and provincial awards at the Grand Chapter Congress. Angelo State's Elvir Named NCAA D-II Baseball Stats Champ

Joshua Elvir of Kemah, an outfielder on the Angelo State University Rams baseball team, has been named the 2018-19 NCAA Division II Baseball Statistical Champion in several categories. The multiple All-American led the nation in batting average (.458), slugging percentage (.989), on-base percentage (584) and RBIs (81). Additionally, as a team the Rams were named NCAA D-II Baseball Statistical Champion after leading the nation in team batting average (.350), runs per game (9.7), total runs (562), on-base percentage (.462) and walks (319). Elvir and the Rams won the Lone Star Conference regular-season title, set a new ASU single-season wins record (42), and achieved the longest winning streak in team history (17). Angelo State Rugby Players Named NSCRO Women's All-Americans

Two members of Angelo State University's Rambelle Rugby Club, Rebecca Nyul and Amanda Steffins, have been named to the National Small College Rugby Organization (NSCRO) 2018-19 Women's All-America Team. Nyul is a health science professions major from Seguin. Steffins is a civil engineering major from San Angelo. They helped lead the Rambelle Rugby Club to qualification for the 2019 NSCRO Women's 7s National Championship Tournament in April in Cheswich, Penn. Rambelle Rugby finished the season ranked No. 12 in the nation. The NSCRO selection committee worked with coaches around the country to identify the 25 exceptional women who make up the annual Women's All-Americans list. Angelo State's Osakue Wins Gold at World University Games

Angelo State junior Daisy Osakue of Turin, Italy, continued her winning ways by claiming the Gold Medal in the discus at the World University Games in Naples with a new personal-best throw of 61.69 meters (202-5). She also captured the hearts of the people of Naples, who chose her to lead the World University Games closing ceremony. The two-time defending NCAA Division II champion in the discus, Osakue is also an All-American in the shot put and high jump - and she holds the ASU, Lone Star Conference and NCAA D-II records in the women's discus. She will represent Italy at the IAAF World Championships in September in Doha, Qatar. See more details on angelosports.com.

Angelo State Student-Athletes Make LSC Commissioner's Honor Roll

Nearly 150 Angelo State University student-athletes and student athletic trainers have made the Lone Star Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll for the 2019 spring semester. ASU posted the highest number of honorees for any LSC school. To be eligible for the Commissioner's Honor Roll, a student-athlete or athletic trainer must earn at least a 3.3 grade point average (GPA) for the semester and be on a current team roster. ASU put 144 students on the honor roll for the spring 2019 semester, including 50 with a perfect 4.0 GPA. More details are and the entire list are available on the LSC website.

Angelo State's Morgan Tosses No-Hitter in Summer College League

Jake Morgan of Ballinger, a pitcher on the Angelo State University Rams baseball team, tossed a no-hitter for the San Diego Waves of the Western Baseball Association (summer collegiate league) on July 9 to lead the Waves to a 7-0 win over the West Coast Clippers. In the back half of a double-header, Morgan threw a seven-inning, complete-game no-hitter and finished with nine strikeouts and two walks. It was Morgan's 12th appearance of the summer for the Waves, but just his first start. Prior to that, he had posted three saves and a 1.86 ERA. As a redshirt freshman for the ASU Rams in 2019, he made six appearances with a 0-0 record and 5.68 ERA.

Angelo State's Lesley Named a Northwoods League All-Star

Tyler Lesley of San Antonio, a senior pitcher on the Angelo State University Rams baseball team, has been named a Great Plains Division All-Star and will take part in the 2019 Northwoods League All-Star Game on July 16 in Waterloo, Iowa. Lesley is pitching for the Mankato MoonDogs in the Northwoods League this summer. Through July 11, he had made eight appearances for the MoonDogs, including six starts, and posted a 3-2 record with a 2.80 ERA. In 41.2 innings, he had given up just 13 earned runs while posting 29 strikeouts to just 13 walks. During the 2019 season for the Rams, Lesley went 7-2 with a 5.49 ERA. Angelo State's Tadlock Named A South Florida Baseball League All-Star

Parker Tadlock of Georgetown, an outfielder on the Angelo State University Rams baseball team, has been named an all-star in the South Florida Collegiate Baseball League and will take part in the SFCBL All-Star Game on July 14 in Boca Raton. Tadlock is playing for the Phipps Park Barracudas of the SFCBL this summer. Through 29 games, he had posted a .329 batting average with 12 walks, seven RBI and 10 stolen bases. Angelo State's Elvir Wins Second Player of the Night Award for Mankato MoonDogs

For the second time in less than a week, All-American ASU Rams outfielder Josh Elvir of Kemah was named Player of the Night on July 6 for his performance for the Mankato MoonDogs in the Northwoods League. In the series finale against the Bismarck Larks, Elvir went 2-for-5 at the plate with two home runs, four RBI and two runs scored as the MoonDogs completed a four-game sweep. Over six games in the month of July, Elvir has gone 11-for-22 with three homers, 10 RBI and six runs scored. For the ASU Rams in 2019, Elvir led NCAA Division II in several offensive categories on his way to multiple All-America and national player of the year awards. Angelo State's Elvir Named Player of the Night for Mankato MoonDogs

Josh Elvir of Kemah, an All-American outfielder on the Angelo State University Rams baseball team, was named Player of the Night for his performance for the Mankato MoonDogs of the Northwoods League, a collegiate summer baseball league. In the MoonDogs' July 2 game against the Eau Claire Express, Elvir went 3-for-3 at the plate with a home run, three RBI and a run scored. For the ASU Rams in 2019, Elvir led NCAA Division II in several offensive categories on his way to multiple All-America and national player of the year awards.
