ASU Art Students Display Works, Win Scholarships for Inaugural Exhibit

Twenty-seven Angelo State University art majors entered their artworks for ASU's inaugural Art Student Juried Scholarship Exhibit, which is now on display in the Carr Education-Fine Arts Building through March 22. Angelo State's Andrade Breaks ASU & LSC Records for Hammer Throw

Decio Andrade of Camacha, Portugal, a freshman on the Angelo State University men's track and field team, set new ASU and Lone Star Conference records in the hammer throw at the Wes Kittley Invitational Meet on March 16 in Abilene. Andrade's hammer throw of 226 feet, 5 inches broke the previous ASU record of 213-9 set by Lennart Bodell in 1984 - and the previous LSC record of 218-0 set by Baptiste Kerjean of Abilene Christian University in 2013.

Fifteen members of the Angelo State University indoor track and field teams have earned All-America status from the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. Angelo State Rams Earn All-Conference Basketball Honors

Four members of the Angelo State University Rams basketball team earned All-Lone Star Conference honors at the LSC Postseason Awards Banquet March 6 in Frisco, Texas. Senior guard James Kirksey was named to the LSC All-Defensive Team and earned All-LSC honorable mention. Nineteen members of Angelo State University indoor track and field team have earned All-South Central Region honors from the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). Angelo State Cheer Team Wins National Championship

For the second straight year, the Angelo State University Cheer Team has brought home a national title from the United Spirit Association USA Collegiate Championships in Anaheim, Calif. ASU's 22-member co-ed Cheer Team won the national championship in the 4-Year College Large Co-Ed Show Cheer Division, beating out teams from Idaho State University, New Mexico State University, Ottawa University-Arizona and Wyoming University. Courtney Barnhill of Lubbock, a junior outfielder on the Angelo State University Rambelles softball team, has been named the Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division II National Player of the Week for her performances during the week ending Feb. 17. Angelo State University's student Trumpet Ensemble has been invited to perform at the annual Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) Conference to be held Feb. 13-16 in San Antonio. Angelo State Biology Student Wins State Research Award

Virginia Jaquish of Granville, Ohio, a graduate student in the Angelo State University Biology Department, won the top prize for her research presentation at the annual meeting of the Texas Society of Mammalogists (TSM) Feb. 8-10 at the Texas Tech University Llano River Field Station in Junction. Jaquish won the Robert L. Packard Award for Best Overall Oral Presentation and a $500 honorarium for her research project titled "Pollen Identification Provides Evidence that Pallid Bats Visit Agave Species in the Chihuahuan Desert." Angelo State Math Students Again Post Perfect TExES Pass Rate

For the 22nd straight year, Angelo State University students have maintained a 100 percent passing rate on the Texas Examination of Educator Standards (TExES) teacher certification test for secondary mathematics.
