Angelo State Cheer Team Wins National Championship

For the second straight year, the Angelo State University Cheer Team has brought home a national title from the United Spirit Association USA Collegiate Championships in Anaheim, Calif. ASU's 22-member co-ed Cheer Team won the national championship in the 4-Year College Large Co-Ed Show Cheer Division, beating out teams from Idaho State University, New Mexico State University, Ottawa University-Arizona and Wyoming University. Angelo State's Barnhill Named National Player of the Week

Courtney Barnhill of Lubbock, a junior outfielder on the Angelo State University Rambelles softball team, has been named the Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division II National Player of the Week for her performances during the week ending Feb. 17. Six members of the Angelo State University men's and women's indoor track and field teams have been named to the 2019 Lone Star Conference Track and Field All-Academic Team, the LSC announced on Feb. 15. Angelo State University's student Trumpet Ensemble has been invited to perform at the annual Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) Conference to be held Feb. 13-16 in San Antonio. The ASU Trumpet Ensemble members performing at the conference include: William DeForest, senior, San Angelo; (Joseph) Riley Jarabek, junior, San Angelo; Joseph Torres, sophomore, San Angelo; Christopher Barrera, freshman, Schertz; Nickolas Martinez, freshman, San Angelo; and Gabriel Munoz, freshman, Pflugerville. Angelo State Biology Student Wins State Research Award

Virginia Jaquish of Granville, Ohio, a graduate student in the Angelo State University Biology Department, won the top prize for her research presentation at the annual meeting of the Texas Society of Mammalogists (TSM) Feb. 8-10 at the Texas Tech University Llano River Field Station in Junction. Jaquish won the Robert L. Packard Award for Best Overall Oral Presentation and a $500 honorarium for her research project titled "Pollen Identification Provides Evidence that Pallid Bats Visit Agave Species in the Chihuahuan Desert." Angelo State Math Students Again Post Perfect TExES Pass Rate

For the 22nd straight year, Angelo State University students have maintained a 100 percent passing rate on the Texas Examination of Educator Standards (TExES) teacher certification test for secondary mathematics. Four Angelo State athletes provisionally qualify for the NCAA DII Indoor Track and Field Championships after Boo Rogers Multis in Pittsburg, Kansas

Angelo State athletes delivered strong performances at the Boo Rogers Multis at Pittsburg State in Kansas. Dragan Pesic won first in the men's heptathlon, and Harry Maslen and Trpimir Siroki, finished second and third. As well, Pesic tied for first in the shot put and won the 1000 meter run. Siroki won in the high jump. Karlea Duhon, completed the women's indoor pentathlon with a score of 3364 points. All four athletes provisionally qualify for the NCAA DII Indoor Track and Field Championships. Other Angelo State athletes also finished strong. Read the full story on Angelo Sports.

ASU's Keely Shaw Wins TxSGS Scholarship

Keely Shaw, a history major and member of the Angelo State University Honors Program, has been awarded the 2018 Texas State Genealogical Society (TxSGS) Scholarship in the amount of $1,000.
