Virginia Jaquish of Granville, Ohio, a graduate student in the Angelo State University Biology Department, won the top prize for her research presentation at the annual meeting of the Texas Society of Mammalogists (TSM) Feb. 8-10 at the Texas Tech University Llano River Field Station in Junction. Jaquish won the Robert L. Packard Award for Best Overall Oral Presentation and a $500 honorarium for her research project titled "Pollen Identification Provides Evidence that Pallid Bats Visit Agave Species in the Chihuahuan Desert." For the 22nd straight year, Angelo State University students have maintained a 100 percent passing rate on the Texas Examination of Educator Standards (TExES) teacher certification test for secondary mathematics. Keely Shaw, a history major and member of the Angelo State University Honors Program, has been awarded the 2018 Texas State Genealogical Society (TxSGS) Scholarship in the amount of $1,000. Angelo State athletes delivered strong performances at the Boo Rogers Multis at Pittsburg State in Kansas. Dragan Pesic won first in the men's heptathlon, and Harry Maslen and Trpimir Siroki, finished second and third. As well, Pesic tied for first in the shot put and won the 1000 meter run. Siroki won in the high jump. Karlea Duhon, completed the women's indoor pentathlon with a score of 3364 points. Angelo State defensive lineman Markus Jones has been named one of nine finalists for the Harlon Hill Trophy, given each year to the best football player in Division II. The trophy is named for the late Harlon Hill, a former University of North Alabama standout who excelled with the Lions from 1950-53 before going on to fame in the NFL with the Chicago Bears.
